I brewed a lager a while ago that was very flat after the bottle conditioning. I got around it by mixing a solution of 1 part sugar and 2 parts boiling water (sanitising the sugar). I then popped the crown caps off, put 5ml of the solution in using a kids medicine syringe and then popped a new cap on. It worked perfectly. Mixing the sugar with water stopped it foaming up.

@@rayfox212 An unaged whiskey - specifically. Concord grapes grow like weeds all over North America... It would be very interesting to see what exactly you can make with them. They are covered in plenty of their own yeast as to not require adding any (as long as you don't wash them). We make wine with them yearly. The only problem we have is that we always get acetobacter infections eventually, since we do not sulfate the end product.

Does shaking the bottles after adding the sugar not increase the risk of oxygenation?

Heck, homemade 'Newkie Brown' [World Famous Newcastle Brown Ale] - I might never leave the house again, if I learn how to make it. ONE taste I really like in beer though is quite the opposite of the dark rich brown ale flavours - it is the light aromatic biscuity taste of ice-cream wafers... I actually think the two would go together very well, if the wafer taste was prominent enough to hold up against the coffee/choc/fig/molasses punch.

I have been subbed for a while, but it seems YT "demotes" subs to not show every video if we do not REhit the bell on some sort of regular basis. Aaanyhow... what I wonder is, if one ignores initial equipment outlay, how does the cost of ingredients for a given volume compare to commercial beers, like Clown Shoes like 12 or 15$ bombers, or a 12 pack like VooDoo Ranger at 20$? And also what is the ABV % for this brown? I prefer darker beers for the most part, and higher ABVs, and the selections are so hit or miss lately, (a lot of breweries and/or distributors have reduced the selections available to me in the Houston Texas area thanks to Covid) so I am more inclined to DIY, IF it is cost effective, not out of knee-jerk despiration but if I can get something I will enjoy more and can better afford in the process, it would be worth the effort. Thanks!
@BeardedBored4 жыл бұрын
If you buy ready made ingredient kits like they have at More Beer and Northern Brewer it's around $35 for 5 gallons of beer. If you buy the malts and hops yourself, it's usually pretty close to that. If you buy the raw grain and malt it yourself, it's about $20 to $40 for 50 pounds of grain, which will make you about 20 gallons of beer. Roughly 12 12oz bottles in a gallon. The equipment and bottles are the big outlay in the beginning, but that's just the one time. The highest cost is to your patience. Waiting sucks;-)
