Brown anole: Part 1 (displays & fighting)

Anoles represent a fascinating group of lizards that visually communicate with one another. Male anoles, for example, extend a colorful dewlap to signal to rival males and receptive females. They also perform other conspicuous displays and have the ability to change the color of their skin. The invasive species from Cuba, called the Brown Anole (Anolis sagrei), is now widespread across Florida where I shot this video.

I live in south florida and these things are everywhere it's hilarious.. I was misting three of them lightly with the hose and they were all males and fighting in a circle.. I'll catch the females and just hold them for a minute and let them go, but I dont really mess with the males because they will bite you even though it wont hurt, but they also will eat baby ones :(

funny, opposite here, the largest, strongest males can take the handling but I wouldn't want to hurt the females, some of them seem very tiny and fragile

In Georgia they have many green and brown anoles but mostly green anoles which can change color

Florida is the opposite we have more brown than little green ones, but except we have a much bigger Cuban Knight Anole (It's very large) that dominates the small green ones and the brown ones. The Cuban Knight Anole are just a little bit smaller than iguanas so they are pretty big, and they bite really hard too.

There is a late '80's made war movie I've seen and also own on an old factory made vhs video cassette I bought back in the '90s.There is a scene where a soldier has a "pet" lizard that he has a string around its neck as a leash.The soldier takes the lizard out of his shirt pocket and tells a fellow soldier in his squad he calls these lizards,"!@$%you lizards" cause it would make this noise and sounds like its saying,"!@$% you!" The lizard looks like a brown anole.
