lovely work Olly...patience & perseverance are 2 of the most important qualities needed for wildlife photography & you certainly have them in abundance...also, it`s nice to see the emphasis being put on the welfare of the wildlife before the shot...👏

I really appreciate your emotion. You and I may be about on the same "level" of experience. I seldom see any of the other birding photographers with YT channels who still have that real sense of wonder and elation. When you shook your fist in an expression of "YES!!!", I knew exactly what that feeling was. I have done that myself on those few occasions when the experience was superlative in comparison with most other days or times or places. When I saw that BANO [Tyto alba] turn and begin to fly right at you, I wondered if you'd caught that with a still photo as well as your video camera. And you did! I really feel I've found a kindred soul. Definitely a new subscriber. ❤❤❤ P.S. One suggestion: when you are talking right into the camera at us, you don't need background "music". It detracts from you and what you are saying. My opinion of course.

Awesome video Olly. What a selection of species! I found this video of real interest as I make KZbin wildlife videos but I am based in Okinawa, Japan. However my mum lives in Oxfordshire and I will be back in the summer for a couple of weeks. Of the species I really wanted to see were Brown hares and Barn owls but wasn't sure if they can be seen near Oxford. Well, now I know. Great video mate. Keep it up😀😀😀😀

Thanks Richard! You’ve got a great chance of seeing brown hares, barn owls are more difficult but it’s definitely possible at sunrise or sunset! :)

@@wildlifewitholly Thanks so much. Closer to the date I might ask you which places you recommended in Oxon for these species if you don't mind. I will be there in August 🙏😀👍

I'm really suprised you don't wear camouflage gear, I find it makes a huge difference. I have been standing in the open woodland with Roe and Muntjaqs in close proximity (< 10 metres) and although they get suspicious, providing you stand still they will move on without getting spooked. The trick is to see them before they see you. I have never washed my jacket and trousers so they smell of earth and grass, also before I go out, I only have a strip wash with odourless soap. You do say "So Yeah" a lot.
@wildlifewitholly Жыл бұрын
I wear it sometimes but I haven’t found it makes much difference. I’ve often been 5-10 meters from them and hares just by wearing dull clothing, staying low to the ground and practising good fieldcraft

The manner in which you bird (at least here), it seems you would benefit from a ghillie suit. Have you considered one of those?
@wildlifewitholly Жыл бұрын
I do actually have one but I find that it doesn’t have too much impact with the species I’m focussing on at the moment, I’m sure it will be beneficial for some species in future though!

Try using a bit of camo.
@wildlifewitholly Жыл бұрын
I’ve done this a few times but don’t tend to see much different to be honest! In winter I think it’s a lot more beneficial when the grass is short and there’s no cover on hedgerows
