The cause of the Palestinian people is well worth the effort as this injustice has been around a long time. I am an Australian and I have lost all respect for the US government over this issue. To stand by and see fiat hand the horrific death of so many babies and children in Gaza is not only disgraceful it is criminal. My own government in Australia has not demanded a ceasefire either and I am so disappointed in them. Thank you and your friends for your humanity.

My understanding is that Brown University obviated much of the vitriolic actions taken at other Ivy League instititions because two leading professors in the Middle East Studies Department, one Egyptian and one Jewish, immediately reached out to each other and started creating venues where students and professors could create dialogues and talk honestly. It seems to have been kargely successful. I doubt everyone is entirely happy but the situation at Brown shows what honest attempts to communicate can have. Compare this to Columbia which is almost nightmarish in contrast.

Divestment means to stop investing. Universities, and many other organisations, have a lot of money invested in shares in various companies. The students are telling the university to stop funding genocide and apartheid: to sell their shares in companies that make it possible for Israel to commit these crimes. It's the same as when people tell organisations to divest from fossil fuel corporations; sociopaths make massive profits by using our money which is invested in their businesses without our knowledge. We all need to ask what companies our banks, pension funds, etc, invest our money in, and if we don't like the answer we must do something about it. You will get a better understanding by watching Palestine: outrage as Hackney council continues to fund Israel's genocide. Council employees, whose pension contributions are being invested in certain companies, are trying to get the council to divest. The description on that video gives a list of the companies, that are complicit in crimes against humanity, which the council owns shares in. BTW: I'm English and grew up in NZ; divestment isn't an American word ❤

The Palestinians have indicated broad support for the October 7 attacks. There is no indication that any effective action was taken by Gaza residents to prevent the attacks. Statehood for the Palestinians will not change their desire to abolish the state of Israel. At its core, this is a conflict rooted in religion and tribalism, not civil rights.

Broad support? That's a bit of a stretch. How does one take "effective action" to prevent something they did not know of? A bit of objective research and you'll see it is not the Palestinians looking to abolish the State of Israel. Religion is a part of this conflict but it's certainly not the core issue. If anything, religion has been used to manipulate and justify the actions of people who are hungry for power and control. The religious Jewish settlers have been used to stake claim to more and more land because the Israeli elite know the settlers are religious nuts who think it is holy land promised to them by God, and so they'll protect it at all cost which means they'll make life for ordinary Palestinians a living hell. The Israeli government uses these issues to take more and more land claiming buffer zones and private Jewish-only roads are necessary to protect the Jewish people. The ultra-orthodox settlers hate Christians but the Israeli power structure loves them even though the evangelical Christians believe Christ is about to return and every Jew who doesn't convert will be done away with. Israel is willing to look past all that because the evangelicals bring in a lot of political and financial support. Before settling on Palestine the international Jewish communities were considering Uganda and Argentina as places to create a Jewish State. This was never about returning to the tribal land for their biblical forefathers. But the Jewish claim to the promised land is, again, a great tool for manipulation and control through religion and tribalism.
