It's a pity that someone hasn't invented a retrofit NOx filter to enable older cars to become ULEZ compliant.

I'm sure I've seen a vid where someone claimed it could be done or had been done but no attention to it was taken.

I could only see that being a benefit/use if it did not affect the economy of the vehicle. DPF’s and Catalytic converters rob the engine of efficiency, so it could be that it would end up as a zero sum gain (envronmentally) if the pollution reduced caused the driver to fill up more as a result of reduced efficiency from a filter device. Tech is evolving every day though so never say never! 😎
@nigel.w Жыл бұрын
@@eldrl001 Remember that ULEZ only cares about NOx compliance. Nothing else! Sure, there may well be a small power loss, and maybe even increase fuel consumption a tad, but I bet if you ask people if they'd rather pay 12.50/day, which is nearly 300/month to commute 5 days/week, or nearly 400/month to use everyday, most people would surely be happy to retrofit a NOx filter.

Apart from buying a 60s or 70s classic like an E-Type, Mk2, Mustang, Escort, Capri, etc, IMO, cars from the late 80s through the early noughties are some of the most interesting. And as said, they essentially drive like modern cars. Also, the historic cars almost certainly are at the stage in their lives of needing to be restored or have been restored already, not only pushing up purchase prices, etc, but also puts them in a different category of ownership, where they are much less likely to be driven reguarly, let alone daily or several times a week. There are also few historic cars that are cheap to own, not least because they are also in general mechanically less reliable. I think it's a real shame that iconic cars like the NSX, Maserati 3200, 205 GTi, BMW E30, which are clearly so very popular, 911 993, 996, Mk1 Boxster, etc are off many people's shopping lists simply because of ULEZ. Some of these cars would certainly be on my shopping list if not for ULEZ! I now often think about buying an American car, like the Mustang, which of course began production in the greatest year ever, for all the benefits of ownership, but there are two reasons I don't: the first being that I don't particularly want to drive an old, relatively large, LHD car around London, and the second being I'm only a luke warm fan of American cars. But if I did take the plunge and buy a yank tank, it would almost certainly be a Mustang very much like the gentleman's you spoke with at the meet.

@@markbowden7238 I didn't mention many many iconic and interesting cars, just a few examples. Out of your Italian list, the Lancia Thema 8/32, Alfa Romeo 75 V6, and 156 V6, even a 156 Twin Spark would be on my list of cars to own over many more modern cars if not for ULEZ. However, some of the cars on your list are over 40 years old, so effectively ULEZ compliant. The thing with 90s through early noughties cars is many have ABS and airbags, drive not too dissimilarly to modern cars, and have modern reliability. They also tend to be generally better built and beter protected against corrosion. Therefore, I don't think it's a particularly good consequence of ULEZ that many owners of such cars may now gravitate towards 70s and early 80s cars that have no safety aids whatsoever, have relatively poor braking, and are much more likely to suffer from dangerous corrosion, and don't need an MOT. Of course, 90s through early noughties cars are almost without exception able to be driven daily if reasonably well maintained. I really don't think many people will want to daily a 70s/early 80s car. So, most people will gravitate towards more boring mid-late noughties cars. And, sadly, many perfectly good interesting cars will be scrapped, and a significant percentage of those will be scrapped for less than they're worth.

@@nigel.wcould all be symptomatic of the rise of the multipolar world (BRICS+) and the fall of the unipolar world (RBIO). I don't know if you could call these blocs civilisations but they do exhibit some characteristics that have been echoed through all of history. Additionally the signs i have seen on you tube do not have the large 'C' as the congestion charge zone does how do drivers know that they have entered a zone where a charge may apply? @BrownCarGuy Hi buddy, I will have my partner Andrew Greaves professor of journalism training from the Bower media group get in touch with you. If you have an email address? I will also put my email at the bottom of this note. He will tell you all about our cheap, simple product and show you the decades of science our product is based on. He will also explain what we have planned for ULEZ. My expertise is government acquisition regulations and how to work within a regulatory framework and override it by coming at the regulation from above its scope of opperation and making it invalid and unenforceable by consequence. As we believe that we have found a way around the ULEZ rules as they are based on EURO 6. Our friction inhibitor significantly outperforms EURO 6 in every measurable degree on over 95% of engines. This single statement once verified via the DVLA as a retrofit solution invalidates EURO 6 by a significant degree, which invalidates the rule as being not narrow and stringent enough a regulation as the technology it authorises as meeting its standard can be modified to emit much less pollution and is currently far to poluting to be allowed on the road unmodified. This regulation is, therefore, not fit for purpose and would have to be withdrawn. This should kill ULEZ stone dead. We believe that TFL has outsourced its few allowable exceptions to DVLA for recertification, so DVLA has the power to allow vehicles that Recertify to be removed from TFLs chargeable list. Then what happens when everyone driving anything can pass EURO 6/7/8, etc, as without our product, all current regulations can all be outperformed and proved as insufficient and therefore again not fit for the purpose that they were created for.. If you want to contact me my details are below. In the meantime, have a great weekend. Gary. Gary.turner@21stenergyint.com

Have a question Brown Car Guy; Are Bi-Fuel Petrol LPG fuelled cars, exempt from paying the "ULEZ" Daily Charges of £12.50, when running on LPG, Yes or No? Or if your car has been converted to only run on LPG, is the vehicle then exempt from paying the "ULEZ" daily charges of £12.50, Yes or No? Can you tell us Brown Car Guy, or can someone else tell us? As we cannot get an answer from TFL, or from OZEV's, or from DVLA or from DoT, let alone from the Mayor of London Khan Office's?

BCG, I think we are fighting this ULEZ battle all the wrong way. If your current MOT says that your vechicle is emission compliant to drive on UK Roads, why should we be charged to do so? surely if someone was to submit a freedom of information request from the Ministry of Transport on the purpose of emissions testing in the UK, surely that information coul;d be used to show that all vechicles with a current MOT are emission compliant and this would contradict Khans claims that vechicles registered before 2015 are not emission compliant even if they have a current MOT and compliant emissions results in the form of a pass or fast pass certificate, furthermore When did the Ministry of Transport write to anyone to inform them that the MOT emissions results could mean your vechicle is non emission comp;liant in ULEZ zones if your vechicle is registered before 2015? they havent and that coul;d be a legal issue as it would be a change to the MOT, either your vechicle is emission compl;iant and it has poassed an MOT or it is not and it has failed the MOT, Im willing to bet that Khan does not have the authority to change this. and only the transport secretary does. Is the transport secretary aware that an MOT on a vechicle registerted before 2015 may not be valid in a London ULEZ zone because Khan has changed the validity of the MOT emissions results on a compliant vechicle charging for its use on Londons roads based upon more stringent emission standards that are not tested and only assumed based upon a vechicles age and Not an official MOT emissions test.

Commuting five days a week in a non-compliant car means on average 23 days a month at 12.50/day, totalling 287.50/month. That's without using the car on your days off. What I don't understand is the logic behind ULEZ. Surely nobody in their right mind will pay this, and surely few can afford to do so. If the logic were to get people to instead spend this amount leasing a brand new car there would be no ULEZ derived revenue. Of course, most people who regularly drive non-compliant cars can't afford to spend this amount of money to use their cars, and many of those that could afford to lease a new car don't have good enough credit to do so. If it was really about public health then the science doesn't back ULEZ. And if it was about getting people to use public transport, and air quality poses a real threat to public health, then there would be a rapid increase in illnesses related to the very dangerous air quallity on the tube. And if Khan was really for black and brown people as he claims, he wouldn't want more black and brown people to travel on the tube and fewer white people, as he has stated. Maybe Khan is being paid by some white supremacist lobby group to get white people to use the buses and black and brown people to use the tube? ULEZ just doesn't make sense, other than as a pretext to pay per mile and worse. And as the Government won't use its power to stop ULEZ, it must actually be in-line with its national transport policy. What is 100% for sure is that ULEZ has nothing at all to do with air quality and/or public health!
