I use ankle carry quite often, but I’m also a special case for it as I’m a paraplegic. My ankle isn’t going anywhere and it’s easy to conceal. While I do carry strong side at times it’s more difficult. Wheelchairs are fitted to the individual with dozens of different measurements so that move with me instead of my fighting wit it. Carrying string side can get in the way if I’m wearing anything heavy that ironically would make it easier to conceal.

Ankle carry seems smart also because it gives you a way to conceal your draw in a robbery or other scenario where pretending to cower/cringe could give you a chance for a counter-ambush.

I carried in an ankle holster for years as a police officer traveling to and from work because it easy to access while seated in my car. I also would ask robbery victims who were approached by numerous suspects one of which was armed. More often than not the victim was searching quickly. I always ask did they search the area around your ankles. The answer was always no. In the event you were caught off guard the chance of a suspect finding your gun in an ankle holster is greatly reduced.

You want a securing strap...period. That's from my experience as well as multiple officers, one who was shot in the guts by his newly freed BUG which the perp picked up. No matter what you "plan" nothing will go according to plan. High chances of a hand to hand scuffle or a scramble for cover will easily eject an unsecured handgun from an ankle holster. "It won't happen to me" is a deadly roll of the dice. Same for shoulder or belt holsters. I had a Chief Spec drop out of a S&W upside shoulder holster. Seemed secure, never an issue for years...until it fell out while I was standing still.

Was it leather only or was it kydex with that 'click' sound to indicate it was secured to the holster? I'd think a good quality kydex setup would keep the gun for going for going on an unintended air trip.

I'm liking the idea of having a secured ankle gun with a kydex trigger cover as a backup gun. Hip or appendix for when upright, ankle when closer to the ground. Why limit your options when the possibility of SHTF actually happens? Would like to find a holster with up/down/sideways support, kydex trigger with clicking lock guard (at least) and in a variety of colors (because we don't all wear black socks.)

I suppose if the black holster ever did show in an area where this is a no-no, I could always claim it is ankle support for an injury.

@@veganconservative1109 sometimes carrying requires some lifestyle changes, this can include buying pants that fit a little longer for things like this; particularly if you have a business casual dress code at work and you're required to wear slacks.

I ankle carry at times, not my favorite way to carry but it does work quite well. To me the main consideration is weight of the firearm. I ankle carried my ruger sp 101 once and learned to never do that again. When I do ankle carry I now use a s&w airweight j frame revolver and it works really well. Thanks for the info.

I prefer a calf holster to an ankle if I choose to carry on the leg. Sits higher on the calf not resting on the ankle bone. Downside is you have to pull the pants leg up higher to get it.

Good video, athank you. Some years ago, I really liked the concept of ankle carry (due to the requirement that I wear a business suit, in a non-permissive environment, every working day). I tried to do so with a both Glock 36 and a Ruger 2.25 inch SP-101; neither were particularly successful in practice for me - this is NOT a universal truth. While concealment was excellent (even with the heavier Glock 36’s 3.8 inch barrel and 6+1 rounds of .45 ACP), the issue - for me -was immobility. When I practiced, and I did do considerably, the draw stoke was fine, BUT in the first vital seconds of a potentially deadly confrontation, I was either on one knee or I had bent completely over to access the weapon. Therefore, in both situations, my ability to move rapidly for cover was essentially zero. This troubled me, becuase cover often is a key element in tactical success. Now, none of the foregoing should suggest that a ankle carry is an unsatisfactory method; it certainly is not. However, it was less than ideal for me (every carry method has advantages and disadvantages, and all people and their circumstances also differ).
@BT17763 жыл бұрын
Of all the various carry positions, this is my least favorite/considerations and have never given it thought. My reasons are the type of pants needing to cover it (also be mindful when sitting), the necessity to use a small handgun and physical limitation to access it. OWB and IWB on the belt is where is best for me and placed there 99% of the time. The 1% is either bellyband or shoulder holster. My arms is naturally quicker than my legs and back.

There are holster clips that allow for tucking in a shirt. I'm currently looking into something called a UltiClip3 or XL. Looks promising for customizing a belt with a kydex holster with that clip.

I'd say size before weight. Gun is no good if the shape is so awkward the pants won't come up whether you're standing or in a ball getting the snot kicked out of you. Especially if you can't bend over and reach your own feet.
