Great episode! I have a wagon and I expect things will be different a bit, probably. But the pump out of the car info is just as important. It's great that you are giving prices. When you watch other channels they tell you what you need but it makes it less fun discovering how expensive the stuff they use is because they generally have sponsors. Your episodes have useful information too. Very happy that I subscribed. So much so I even like them when they are finished :D
@BrowneysGarage3 жыл бұрын
Hey Glen, thanks mate. I actually tried looking into the wagons for John Conroy on here as well yesterday and info is really scarce, sounds like it is different and takes dropping the tank - as I said to him though I could be and hope I'm wrong on that! Doing my best to make videos I'd watch, and as you point out showing the price and keeping it relatable is a big part of that. You're a better subscriber then me to then, I forget far too often to like the videos I do watch! Thanks very much mate 👍

Great video mate. I’ve recently installed a new fuel pump and filter and ever since then the check engine lights been on. Currently waiting on a regulator in the mail as I think the current one might be faulty hopefully that does the trick 👍🏼

How big is the fuel pump you installed, it's not pumping out more fuel than the stock regulator can manage is it? (ie Walbro 460 I believe may have this issue on stock regulator, not sure what code if any that it would throw for that though)

another great video Browney. I initially did just the pump like you before getting mine tuned and can confirm that pump will support 300rwkw as thats what my car has. I get the dreaded fuel cut when on the dragstrip and have bought the big pot which will hopefully fix that. definitely get fuel cut with under half a tank in fact even on half so be sure to be slightly over half a tank when on the strip. downside to that is you are carrying maybe 50 extra kgs with all that fuel in the tank. when the dragstrip opens again i will let you know how the big pot works out with under half a tank.
@BrowneysGarage3 жыл бұрын
Hey Geoff, thanks very much for sharing. Will make sure I've got over half then, is a little extra weight but I probably wouldn't run it at the drags under a quarter tank or so anyway even without that reputation so not a huge amount more. Please do let me know how you go if you get a chance, seems like it should definitely help though. Good luck mate 👍

Thanks very much mate. Never enough light in the garage, especially when filming. I like them, really quite bright and I can generally find somewhere to sit it on. Not much good for hanging anywhere though it does have a hook, and I will say that I recently did kill one after about 4 years or so. A wire got pinched and broke in the pivot between the bottom and top light so lost the top light. Good chance I could have got it sorted under warranty... but of course I had to try sort it myself and my new join broke also, too tight in there for the extra material. 🤷 Have since replace it so fingers crossed it was a once off.

It's best not to bench test a old fuel pump. Whilst it is in fuel the commutator doesn't spark and theres not enough air to ignite. But in the open with the right air fuel ratio and the brushes arcing could cause a explosion.

Sudden fuel blockage or other from fuel pump means am doing a pump changeover on 2008 FG which i am largely assuming is very similar to this BA. Hey Browney, thanks for the vid. I did the same in my late BF MKII XR6, dropping in a Walbro 255 to replace a dying, I assume, Delphi pump in the original assembly.. Did you experience noticeably louder pump noise after the swap out? Mine has a noticeably louder whine than the original, even with the pump in the dampening sleeve that comes with the kit. Other than that, it seems to be working fine. I noticed a few others have experienced the same noise with the Walbro pumps, some even opting to swap them out for quieter options. Something to be aware of I suppose. Also, for those of your viewers with late BF's (09/2007 and onward) and FG's considering this job, the upgraded retaining ring on the tank is a PITA to remove without a special tool, which I found hard to find, and the ones I did find were expensive for a one time use. It's held in place by 6 locking tabs around the retaining ring, that unlock when turned counter-clockwise. To remove it, I ended up carefully prying open the little tabs ever-so-slightly to relieve some downward pressure, and then used two large flat head screwdrivers held in opposing outer notches with a breaker bar in between them for leverage. Get a mate to hold the screwdrivers tightly while you carefully turn the breaker bar. Total hack job but it worked. Reverse proceedure to close. Also, I found the convoluted tubing inside the assembly to be a nighmare to get off intact, even with heat, and would definitely recommend ordering two new ones when you order the pump, as the originals are more likely to get damaged during removal. The 120mm ones I needed cost about $11 each. I ordered the pump and tubes from TI Performance in Melbourne, all up came to $130, which as mentioned, is a significant saving compared to dropping in a new assembly. All the best. Cheers.
@BrowneysGarage3 жыл бұрын
Maybe a touch louder when priming for sure, seems to settle a bit after that and be just a touch louder but not terribly noticeable. Maybe more an issue with a factory exhaust? Mind you this car isn't terribly loud, guess I'll notice soon with a factory turbo exhaust in. Glad it wasn't just me that had a tough time on that damn convoluted tubing! 🤣 Thanks mate.

Be prepared . Buy replacement flexi hoses before you start as when removing them they get chewed up even using a hair dryer . Then using screw drivers etc risks a serious crack to the brittle plastic hose barbs . Hose removal tools were useless and dont work as advertised so bear with it and use your fingers . Hurts but doesn't damage the barb .These were the problems we faced and solved when we followed this video . Very helpful video but spend 20 dollars and buy the flixi and just cut the old hoses off .
