Mike's Camera Review

Күн бұрын

This is another cool Box camera to look at. Not very practical to use today. It uses 616 size film -- which is basically unavailable these todays. You CAN buy adapters to go on the ends of 120 film to make it wide enough for use, but honestly, it's just not worth it. This is a cool camera to sit on a shelf and look at, or maybe use it as a prop in a play or musical. It features a F11 and F16 f-stop setting as well as a bulb setting. If it was your grandfather's and it has some family value -- keep it. Otherwise, you can give it away. They sold originally for around $5 between 1946-1951. It's come full circle, they are worth about $5 today. Guess it held it's value -- minus inflation and stuff.
Happy shooting everyone.

I just bought one today for $5. I love the desigh/art work. I'm an artist. I also remember my grandfather had one when I was 7 years old in Minneapolis. He was my very favorite grandfather. He was very warm, gentle and soft spoken. That camera brings back warm memories from a cold climate.

I wish you were a bit less negative about using 120 film spool adapters. I use them for a variety of film sizes and have a lot of luck and fun. It would be nice for people to give i these old cameras a chance to continue to do what they do.

Nice vid. I got one of these years ago as an award from a camera club. I couldn't figure out how to open it till I came upon your review. Much grass.

My husband found this camera today at an estate yard sale this that he bought for me....for $1 😯☺️! A very cool box camera for sure. Thank you for showing me how to open this bad boy! I couldn't figure it out as I was too afraid I was going to break it! Haha! As with yours, the mirror(s) for the viewfinders have moved/shifted and unfortunately, I can't see anything that I point at, aside for some light or shadows. The strap is also broken on mine but at the fastener (not in the middle like yours). Oh well...its not like I'm going to be using it to take photos, so it will sit on display somewhere, as a conversation piece with my fellow photographers, family and friends! It was definitely a cool find! Thanks so much for your informative video on the Kodak Brownie Target Six-16!

A few years ago, I bought some color 70mm motion picture film and used it on a 116 size 1917 brownie 2a. It developed beautifully, and felt really rewarding to bring a 100 year old camera back to life. The only downside was the 70mm film I purchased had sprocket holes since it was for motion pictures.

Now I can open it. Just tried to stick some micro Fibre cloth inside to wipe down the lens and cut my thumb knuckle and now it's bleeding. The edges r sharp so be careful. I'm selling several old cameras for my cousins wife who owned an antique shop. He passed away a few yrs ago. This one has a wire showing through the front lens, so I'd like to know how to open it up to see if I can fix it amd also to clean the lens

Just got this from a friend, any idea on what to do if the viewfinder isn’t showing anything? Might be dust and dirt from sitting for a while like you said

the mirrors probably let go I just got one in mint shape and both mirrors arent attached anymore the fix is one of two things tinker and fix it yourself which seems the most likely option or if you are very lucky there may be a camera repair shop willing to do it for you.

Make sure when buying adapters for the ends of the 120 film reels that you buy strong ones- like literally ones with “strong” in their description- the reason being that you (like me) will get halfway through shooting your roll of film, having a great time, pleased with the subjects you chose to shoot- and the film will stop reeling with the winding reel. What’s happening is the resistance is building on the reels and suddenly the cheap, soft, wax-like plastic on those adapters gives way and won’t reel any further. Now you’re in a position where if you have a darkroom, I guess you can salvage your roll of film, but if not, you’ve gotta pull open the camera (ruining your film) and start over. The cameras are inexpensive and available, cleaning and fixing them isn’t too hard, but there’s a bunch of grifters out there (because of course) who want to try and cash in on your interest in trying out an antique camera, while selling you garbage. Be careful buying those adapters- it’ll save you film and money.
