Kilked my first whitetail with a Backpacker 1, a 50 pounder. That was in 1983!

Hey, Shane I'm wondering if there's a follow-up video to the browning backpacker,

For what it is worth the riser wood is shedua. Back in the day it was very popular with bow makers along with bubinga, both are West African timbers. It is highly likely that the centre strip is in fact bubinga. Pretty sure the the legendary Harry Drake had a finger in the design of this bow along with Jack Bice who was the head Bowyer with Browning at the time.

How do you fix the reverse tiller on that?

This is going to be an interesting rebuild! Looking forward to following the process. You are going to make a video of the work process, right?

Me too. Looking forward to see what you come up with. Love to see longbow limbs go on a vintage riser. Would the belly mount favour a longbow limb profile better than a recurve?

I have never been a fan of huge chunky risers, they just look so wrong and odd in profile view. But that's just me. Great channel, your bow restorations are pure joy to watch. Especially your keen sense of the small details.

I just inherited a large collection of recurve bows and accessories. I would love to talk about what I have and next steps.

Good review. The Browning backpacker was meant to have the limbs swing down into the riser for transporting in a backpack, hence the name. The limbs never came off, they would be loosened, pivoted parallel to the riser into a compact package. They had to compromise to make it small for a backpack. They didn’t make them for long and are highly desirable as collectors.

Browning made a model called the "Folding Hunter" with this feature. The Backpacker was a normal three piece.

I almost wonder if the limbs for this bow were not made for this model? This is just off seeing the way the limbs fit the bow with that overhang on the bow.

Yes, if ever I got this one bow from Shatterproof Archery from Krammer Ammons store I might need to ask if the bow is able to be fixed in the very poor limb tip overlays but only that part as the bow is just past center in design. Have you seen his limb tip overlays and how poor they are made?

I believe that the "4" as the first number in the serial indicates it was made in 1974.

Shedua in the riser. Maybe padauk stripe. I had a 50 pounder backpacker very accurate shooters. Not a fast bow.
