Brownsville born and raised here, if y’all loved it when y’all were down here y’all should come down during “charro days”! It’s a festive weekend the 3rd weekend in February. There’s fun and awesome activities going on all weekend. From music to food it’s an overall awesome experience where we celebrate our culture with our sister city of matamoros.

If you ever get a chance to, on Bay view there are orchards where you can pick your own oranges and grapefruits. Also, in arroyo city, there is a small little restaurant called chillie willies. They have amazing burgers. There is a county park out there that has a wonderful view of the arroyo. This waterway connects to the Laguna madre bay. You should go there.

Just ran across this video and wanted to let you know that I enjoyed it. I’ve been living in Brownsville for over 30 years and just as you said, it’s almost like being in Mexico, at least it is for those that have never been here. I suggest you visit during the Charro Days Fiesta, it’s a week long celebration of the friendship between the “sister cities” of Matamoros, Tamps. Mexico and Brownsville, TX USA, held every February since 1938. There is a 3 day parade and lots of fun activities held around town throughout the week. A lot of people wear charro attire to the parade, school and work during that week. To my knowledge there is nothing like it anywhere else in the US. Safe travels!
@laurenandseth3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! That feedback means a lot, we're so glad you enjoyed it. We really enjoyed our stay and are excited about coming back and exploring more. That is really special that Charro Days Fiesta dates back to 1938-wow. Very impressive and we'd love to experience that for sure. Hate that we are missing this upcoming one, but it is now on our list. Thanks for sharing! :)

Thank you so much for this video. I used to live in Matamoros and in Brownsville, but it has been over 15 years since I walked across that bridge, and I tried to research on the internet but couldn't find any precise information on entering Matamoros until I seen your video. It looks like you still could walk right into Matamoros without having to stop and get a permit, as I can see by your video. And the cost to walk across the bridge is still 1 dollar, the same that it was 15 years ago. Amazing. I was beat up right under that bridge that you walked across about 20 or 25 years ago, as I used to hang out with a gang of border bandits that were always there( I wasn't a bandit I just knew them) , but some punk from another gang attacked us, but in the end, we won!! 17 pesos for a taco is pretty good. I'm assuming that your video was filmed in January 2022. Good Luck.

In truth, I like that Brownsville/Matamoros is still an "unknown" spot; to me, your vid feels like that special occasion when that hidden heirloom gem gets worn on that special date. Why? Well, even if overcast, did you see the horizons in the background on Boca Chica beach? This type of peace, beauty, nature, food and culture can be affordable to the mere mortals among us. ...and I love that it's just, "everyday;" I mean, the matter-of-factness and "hidden in plain sight"-ness of two borders by the sea and everything rich that this comes with is, ...well..., special.
@laurenandseth3 жыл бұрын

Yo I'm from Brownsville, born and raised, and currently a student at UTRGV. Next time you come to Brownsville, be sure to come during Charro days (Roughly from Feb 19 - 27) for the festivals and events going on! There is a big parade with lots of music and food! There are a lot of interesting and cool places to see and visit around downtown brownsville, but you have to just walk and explore. Don't be afraid to explore the night life downtown too! There are a handful of bars and clubs to check out! I would recommend caution at night however and always be sure to pay attention to your surroundings. Cool to see a recommended video about Brownsville on KZbin!

Hey!!! I'm from Brownsville/Matamoros I just had some thoughts -The sanctuary and other areas for birdwatching are great but the weather plays kinda a big role. Also for going to the park you went to (Olímpico). Not a lot of people are going to be at those places during the cloudy weather. -Matamoros has a lot of restaurant/bars where they sell wings and other dishes and drinks. I'd recommend to try one of those. There are soso many. You might have to go in the afternoon though, it depends. -next time you visit Matamoros go to the movie theater and buy popcorn. You don't even need to watch a movie just get popcorn lol it's great there's many flavors. -the salsas you tried are for different purposes. The first one is for chips, chicharrones, popcorn etc. the other salsas are for food- mainly tacos, meats, other Mexican dishes

Thanks so much for the inside scoop and information! This is great to know. We are definitely going to try more of the food in Matamoros. Lauren is obsessed with popcorn so she’s wanting to go back now. 😊 We actually did see a ton of birds at Sabal Palm Sanctuary, just not at the Resaca de la Palma State Park. We also saw a ton around town and at the beach. Thanks for the tips and advice… we love comments like this! 😃

Thank you for capturing all you did in this very well-paced video. The area is rich in history and culture and if you could have extended your stay you would have had a better experience with the opportunity to see inside of museums on either side of the border. Glad you enjoyed your visit and had many nice things to show.

The history in culture there is absolutely incredible! We definitely want to come back and showcase more of what the area has to offer. We’re taking note of all the recommendations we’re getting now. Thank you! 😊

The story of that golf course trapped behind the fence is kinda sad. That SpaceX Starbase is pretty cool. I love that you can drive on the beach in the area. I have always heard South Padre Island is fun. Thanks for showing us this area!
@laurenandseth3 жыл бұрын
I know! It’s a really unfortunate situation for the golf course 😔 SpaceX was personally one of my favorite things in the area. It was an all around unique experience just seeing ocean waves crash and then turning around and there’s a space rocket 😂

You should check out the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville and also Sea Turtle Inc in South Padre

We've been hearing a lot of great things about the Gladys Porter Zoo. Sea Turtle Inc looks awesome! We'll have to add that to the list for when we visit next :) Thanks!

Loved this video, one of my favorites and now I really want to visit Brownsville. The rockets are so cool and the beach looks amazing. And the food over the border has me really missing Mexico!
@laurenandseth3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The rockets were one of the main highlights for us. Still shocked that it’s so accessible. Yes! The food in Mexico is unmatched!
