While it would have been an interesting backstory, doctors cannot do surgery on family members due to the intense pressure and possible results like that, I could see the directors of the MCU hesitant just because it is very unrealistic and since Dr. Strange is a well known doctor he and the world around him would know that rule.

I think both versions (MCU and Animated) are pretty cool, however, while I love Strange development in animated film, I think the MCU does a better job building his fight with Dormammu, with Strange in the end saving the day not by shooting laser on the villain, but by using his intelligence and using time stone. This helps to show why Strange is the sorcerer supreme: It's not because he's the most powerful or a choosen one, it's because of his creativity in the ways he uses his magic.

Also can I just say I LOVE the Ancient One in this. You truly get the sense he's an intelligent, wise and compassionate master who deserves the title of Sorcerer Supreme. He helps Steven understand what magic is, shows immense patience with him and can tell he's a genuinely good man whose spent years hating himself for something he couldn't control. I genuinely wish we got more with him. He is frankly a lot better as an ancient master of magic compared to Bald Tilda Swinton.

to me what the animated doctor strange movie got right with the ending with steven seeing Gina one last time and him saying she was right shows in the end Steven was going to be the hero the world needed but showing him finally coming to terms with the past and him showing he changed is a relatable and understandable moment showing sometimes we lose are way only to come to terms with things and try and move on

I wasn't a superhero movie fan when this movie was released. I hadn't heard of Iron Man, let alone Doctor Strange. But it was on the TV and I decided to watch it anyway. And it's the reason I'm a lot more critical of MCU's 'Doctor Strange' than most. MCU's Strange started as a somewhat Tony Stark clone and speedran his journey as a wizard. Strange only managed to acquire magic after Ancient One tricked him, abandoning him on top of a mountain so he's forced to use magic. Except, his life was never really in danger as it keeps cutting to Mordo intending to rescue him. And from there, we get a montage of Strange advancing his magic by reading books. This is fatal, to me, because no matter how unique the bargaining scene with Dormmammu is, it didn't feel earned. Strange never feel like he was at the point of being able to take on Dormmammu and defeat him. In the animated movie, Strange was to demolish a wall everyday. And I recall the wall starting out small before they get larger and larger. So when he acquired magic, it does feel earned because his trials had weight - figuratively and literally. It's almost like Robert de Niro in 'The Mission' when he carried that deadweight through the jungle. When the weight was cut loose of him at the end of his journey, he was a changed man.

I definitely feel like animated Doctor Strange really *became* a sorcerer while MCU’s Strange kinda stumbled through every action sequence through luck mostly. I could've sworn Strange resembled Keanu Reeves in the animated film. It's why I wanted him for the live-action movie. Having watched this film recently, it did Strange more justice than 8 years in the MCU where his only "emotional" arc is being upset an ex he only paid attention to when he wanted something & possibly just used for emotional validation has moved on & doesn't want him. Lol This film uses an ex to the extent it should, then the focus shifts to what is important - STRANGE, and why he is the way he is. His sister dying seems more important than an a shallow romance with an ex. THIS film understood that. The MCU does not. Multiverse of Madness should have focused on Donna rather than Christine. Expanding on Donna's death adds to Stephen's story about being afraid to lose control and why he's scared to get close to others. We get his cringe love confession to Christine where he admits he's scared of love. WHY? If you don't read the comics, you get nothing out of him admitting that. Plus expanding on Donna would have added depth to his relationship with America and why he's more protective & and nurturing toward her than he's been to anyone in anyone so far. Maybe she reminds him of Donna? Or he just has that protective older brother affinity for another young girl who is counting on him, and he's dertermined not to fail this girl like he feels he did Donna. Similar to how Andrew Spider-Man saves MJ after being unable to save Gwen. And in protecting her, he grews natural affinity for her. But good storytelling requires caring about the characters. And outside of Derrickson & Cumberbatch, nobody in the MCU cares about Strange as anything other than a plot device & a stand-in Tony Stark rip-off. This film also makes Strange more sympathetic once his training starts. He's humble and does what is instructed. He doesn't always get it & he makes that known, but he's never as aggressively hateful as MCU Strange when people try to help him.
@dazzlingdexter5060 Жыл бұрын
I felt for Strange the entire movie but I kind of get his mind frame. He has things from his past and he has all the awnsers and thinks he can fix everything around him. Yet he ends up pushing away everyone he wants to keep safe and it ends up with him alone. Married to his mission, to his cuase to never have love or anyone in his life. He is the greatest hero and he is the loneliest man in the universe and that's the saddest thing about his character. This is hinted in the movie and it's a sad narrative

I know I'm not the only one who likes the animated Doc Strange feature. It puts better emphasis on why he becomes the Sorcerer Supreme rather than how. The main characters are fleshed out and never under used and show their purpose that besets Strange on his journey. The live action movie was fun but it doesn't carry the mystic charm the 2007 animated movie had

This is the movie that first introduced me to Dr. Strange. It was aired in my local tv, undubbed even, suprisingly.

I actually searched for the animated film a few years back and loved it. One thing it does much better than the MCU is making magic feel unique. Each wizard we see has a special flavor to their magic which is far superior to how Marvek just gave everyone the same effects. The only thing the MCU did better is having Strange outsmarting Dormmamu which is more on brand with his methodology. Establish early on that Strange isn't always gonna be able to out muscle threats but he's good at besting them in other ways.

I didn't even know there was a comic with it, was one of my favorite movies growing up.

This movie is what got me interested into the Sorcerer Supreme and was my jumping off point, I still liked the first MCU movie and comparing the two is still what I do but in the giddy way. They both work, in different ways for their different mediums, and they both should be experienced.

I’ve had the animated ‘Dr. Strange’ on DVD for over 10 years and never watched it all the way through.

So are you considering reviewing all the animated stuff like Hulk vs Wolverine? If you are, cool.
