Quick tips for pruning from one gardener to another! Topping a plant encourages the plant to make more tips similarly to topping peppers for bushier plants. Bottoming (cutting off the lower branches) stimulates the plant to grow upwards simulating more of a columnar habit. And cutting more than 30% of a plant at a time will trigger a stress response that will more than like make your plant grow rampantly. Cheers! Bonus tip, “FIMing” is where you cut the top but not all the way leaving a small portion of the existing top still intact. This will keep your central branch and stimulate it to still branch out!!

@@kesha1926 basically splits the stalk into 2, 3 or 4. If ur goal is 4 use ur fingers for higher success rate. Failing results in 3 and the original cut done on the stem is the 2. Do this at a set height you prefer because the new 4 branches will become mains for new lateral growth. Some fruit trees are forced into 4 main heads and supported on wooden 4x2s or whatever you want to help hold the weight. Doing this also slows growth and reduces the size of the fruit but I’d recommend this 100% involves getting in and understanding pruning and knowing how to redirect energy. (Amazing for 🍃) let’s in more light and better access to pruning/air flow. Just remember 4 mains means more work and energy needed for development.

*To anyone looking for pruning lessons, look up how people do it when growing weed. This particular method is called topping. You can also do it for side branches. You can also top the 2 shoots that formed after you originally topped it, to make 4, 8, 16, etc.* It all depends on what angles the light falls on your plant. If it will get the best light by being shaped like an upside-down Christmas tree, then top and retop and retop until then. If you want it shaped like a bush, do that. If you want it shaped like a Christmas tree at first, don't touch it. Topping plants makes them sacrifice growing upward quickly for growing outward quickly. *However: If you don't understand WHY you're pruning a plant, DON'T DO IT. DO RESEARCH instead. THEN prune it.*

this is how i prune my croton bush, it likes to just grow one large stem so every other new leaf that grows on a branch i trim and it makes it so much more bushy and nice looking. this is a common thing in houseplant keeping, its called "pinching" because you can just use your fingernails and pinch off the new buds, and its how you control bushiness and make more dense foliage

So what happens is that you're cutting the meristematic tissue. Without a growth top, the stem will reassign stem tissue to become meristematic growth points. What you get is a hydra effect. Instead of one vertical growth shoot, you get two lateral side shoots. If you do this thoughtfully, you can do a pruning technique called "espalier" (es-pawl-ee-ay) it's French, and is a common technique used on trees in Potagér (poht-a-zjer) gardens.

Advice for anyone thinking they can grow an avo and it'll taste good: it probably wont! Avos are plants that need to be cloned/grafted to produce a good tasting fruit: growing from a seed of a grocery store avo does not mean you are going to get avos that taste like it after the many years it takes to harvest. Unless you just have a thing for growing plants and want to see how far you can take it, I don't recommend growing an avo in the hopes of getting edible (good tasting) ones!

Suggestion. Don’t wait til it’s grown this tall if possible. Typically you’ll want the branching out and new leaves to be as low as possible/closest to the soil surface. I would do exactly what you done but as soon as you spot that new growth above the first leaf set. You’ll get a much bushier and prolific plant 😊

It is now super tall and has 3 leaves It started growing again Yesterday I put it outside to catch some sunlight and warmth (since it needs it); everything was fine so I took it out again today and the leaves started to wilt I took it back inside now and gave it some water because the soil felt very dry...
