Your kind of "hovering" technique while applying flux onto the smd pads and then appling solder onto all of the pads in a row at once in such a quick and easy way is something i never saw before. Soldering seen from outside looks like a child game: Just get the hot soldering iron close to the electronic component and the trick is done. True story! I was literally shooting content for my own channel when the ac jack on my laptop decided to break, the rest of the way. Lost all that footage, but what I did find was this AWESOME channel. I finally got the old jack removed, and I feel much more confident that I'll be able to solder on the new one when it arrives, hopefully tomorrow. Thanks man, I appreciate the great tutorials!

Helllllóoóoo first timer and going for the longest running watcher I took basic electrical in high school I was there for 1 month and then I came back 3 months later and the teacher asked who I was I said that I went for lunch at the pub a half block away and got lost I did injoy it but I was not allowed back one thing I did learn was that LED lights were going to be in the future but it would take a long time for people to accept them that was back in 1986 I also learned how to make a circuit board I have forgotten that and now I have an idea for a project and I need to make a small circuit board I'm very happy to have found your site

Thanks for sharing your knowledge Brian! I am terrible at soldering and I found the reason is that I thought I knew what I was doing. Seeing someone take the time to prepare and focus like I do when I work on cars is inspiring. The wittiness is entertaining as well. As far as the key for the station goes.. apparently there are folks who are pretty serious about getting things right? I know this is going to be off-color but all I thought about was supervisors of underpaid labor making electronics not messing with the temperature. It’s actually sad. Just watched a KZbin with these poor people that actually have numbers on their back! I can imagine they don’t want them to mess with the temperature. Quick switch to imagining someone doing a side hustle in the factory cloning keys to turn up the temperature to help make their quota. Let us not forget how good we have it ya know? I hope Holden does not do a collab with the states again but I’ll admit the GTO was built like a brick house tho. Looking forward to more content, thanks!

I just ripped two fat dabs of cherry pie live resin, and I'm loving this. Man, I used to think I was hot shit installing mod chips into the original xbox consoles for friends. Some of the motherboards came with two empty spots where 2x32mb ram could be soldered, but I never had the balls to attempt that shit. Anyway, thanks for the entertaining stream, bro.

I am trying to find the temp used for the hot air, when removing components. I have a hot air station and tried using it around 380⁰C but the solder wouldnt soften, so i ended up using the iron at about 350 and rhat worked just fine.

that key is for factory uses i think. they lock the temperature workers use so they always follow production standards

I know this is late, but hes reviewed this recently. Basically he scrapes it off with a blade and then uses flux (Lots and lots of it), as well as solder and new copper to repair the traces.

I have a 95 corvette with ecm in need of a reflow on ecm. This is something new to me and to top it off board has rubbery conformal coating and the ecm is made of unobtainium. I know it can be saved because it works intermittently. Any knowledge shared will be greatly appreciated

I have a pin missing on my arduino uno 328p. I had to remove it to use it as a programmer and when I went to put it back in I broke one of the pins. I havent figured out what it is attached to but I did have an issue programing my attiny85 with my uno and switched to programing it with my arduino nano.

Im trying to learn how to repair ic chips for iphones. I can remove the ic chip with heat gun. When i go to clean the board with the solder gun i end up removing too many pads and i cant get the solder to stick to the tip? For flux i use RMA-223 volume 10cc on the solder wire 0.08 grade YF-11. What am i doing wrong?

That really depends. I use a very high temperature (430ºC), but I wouldn't recommend that for beginners. If you're using leaded solder, try somewhere around 350ºC.

at 1:08:52 you talked about the flux. I just picked up(before watching this video) some Rosin Flux Paste by Thermaltronics. It says its good for electronics. I just wanted to know what you would have to say about it. Its a completely different color than the Flux you show not use in the video. Also great video/stream

For sure, those machines are great for BGA rework, but they cost a bit. I'll probably get one someday.

@@BranchusCreations A T862++ cost less then 200 USD when you import it directly from China. I have one and I really like that I can pick up the chips very easy and solder them back directly with the old solder. I use that often for ROM-transfer when I do a PCB swap on a HDD.

Hi Batman, I see you replacing round shape capacitors with the rectangle shape one. I am trying to recap my camcorder. it's full of the round sharp surface mount cap. Should I replace them with rectangle? Please advise

In the video I am replacing surface mount electrolytic capacitors (round ones) with tantalum capacitors (square ones). There are a range of reasons why I do this, but if you're not sure about what to use, it's probably just safer to replace with the same kind.

Yea, that interface looks a bit silly, and the key thing too, but the colour branding kinda makes sense when you've got hot stuff around to be bright... I've got an Hakko FX901 as my portable one that's a 4 AA job (400°C with NiMH rechargeables and apparently 600°C Alkaline!!), which whilst I'm careful, (and the cleverly designed cap witches the power off) I kinda like the bright colours for safety... My base station, well, I'm not so concerned because you usually put it back home between solders.... Great video though. Thank you :)

The camera is just a bit too loose in the holder, so I use tape to hold it still. Why kapton? That's what I had nearby.

I use either isopropyl alcohol or MG Chemicals flux remover for spot cleaning. If the board is completely covered in flux after doing major repairs, I use an ultrasonic cleaner with a solution specially designed for cleaning electronics.

Great video, Bruce. Thanks! I was wondering why my solder connections were SO DANG CRAPPY. Now I know. Flux. Lots of it. Judging from this video, I will seek a 1 liter tube of the stuff. ;-) Oh, and I'm using one of those fine-point conical tips. Getting a couple thicker flat and wedge tips, too. The pins on those components were pretty large (2-3mm spacing). Do you ever work with really small pin components? Things like a USB-C or USB-micro adapter, where pins are 1mm apart. Same process? Flux, drag solder... Different tip? I can't imagine using that fat tip on such small components. Thanks again!

Jeff - Do a quick eBay search for "1984 Mac" and you'll see there's definitely a market for repair work like this. Highly doubtful that you can walk into an Apple store with a 36 year old Macintosh and they'd be willing to repair it, so we must learn for ourselves!

@@jeffjorczak Why do cities mark areas as "Historical Districts"? Why do we try to preserve the pyramids instead of tearing them down? It's to preserve history. Also, idk if you've ever tried to play a playstation game on a playstation emulator (any other emulator seems to work fine instead of PS1) but the experience is terrible and nothing like the original. Sometimes it's more functional to go with original hardware.

@@italianbasegard Exactly. On the note of PS1 emulation, it’s kind of the same with the original Xbox. Except, there’s not a good emulator for it really at all almost 20 years after it’s release. The only way to experience a lot of the games is on the console and a lot of them nowadays are starting to need repairs.
