Great Video thought I’d add a few thoughts from a Cruisers Perspective. First - as you mentioned BANDAIDS are the reason we tend to go into our kit most often. Since many cruisers are in the tropics BANDAIDS dry out faster. We keep ours in ziplocks which seems to help. We keep our kit in a pelican case as sea air infiltrates everything (even on a dry boat). And lastly - we have a survival raft and a go-bag which in addition to survival gear, sextant, food and water etc has its own first aid kit which has a different assortment of items in it. Great video Brett! Keep em coming.

I have carried a SAMS since I was deployed into remote combat zones. You can shape the splint to fit in any bag, out of the way. Mine doubled to support the bottom and side of my assault pack. Really great overview here. Thank you.

This was great, very helpful thank you. Also loled when 5min after you covered up the name of your employer on the sheet you said “my employer is NOLS.”

Actually, the logo I covered on the SOAP note was not NOLS, it is my other employer….

I love this video, love to see more in detail talk and philosophy on what is in them. Have my WFR getting my EMT so this content is some of my favorite.

Stay tuned Justin, more like this coming in the new year. Thanks for stopping by.

16:40 I guess I must be the "crazy person" you talk about. A year ago, I didn't know basic first aid. So far, I've earned WFA, WFR, and in a few weeks, EMT.

Honestly, I was referring to myself.... But it sounds like you're having fun AND learning stuff. It doesn't get better than that. Thanks for watching.

Thank you for this insight. You are right that REI does not have these kits anymore with their logo on them but they now have the HART health logo and look almost identical in every way.
@AdventureOtaku5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I suspect hart was making them for REI.

What about having a Tourniquet?

I am about to recreate my first aid kit video, that will address this and some other topics. But in general unless you work with guns, machetes or axes/chainsaws you probably don’t need one. If you sleep better at night knowing you have it then go for it. I have never seen arterial bleeding and that includes my time working in an ambulance

HART Outdoors has a kit bag that looks almost exactly like those bags.
@AdventureOtaku3 жыл бұрын
They are Hart, just branded with a different companies logo

what are 4x4s and 3x3s? (3:30)
@AdventureOtaku4 жыл бұрын
My apologies. 4x4s and 3x3s are referring to square gauze. Sometimes sterile sometimes not - as a WildernessMedicine instructor I tend to not worry about sterile, clean is good enough

Can we go back to the part where you were carrying 12lbs of cheese per person....
@AdventureOtaku4 жыл бұрын
Dense calories and protein! For a month long trip that’s only 3 pounds a week...
