A little known fact that makes this song sadly haunting.

Northern Ontario sitting looking out into the bush surrounding my farm on a nippy January morning with the horses milling about, wild turkeys eating fresh cracked corn out my back door....blue jays and chick-a-dee's feeding on the sunflower seeds, peanuts.....about to drive up North to my local ski hill....what a life here...thanks all and Bruce!

Comforting. I love his voice on this one. I want to believe it.

'Closer to the Light' was my theme song through some dark times that slowly turned beautiful, like a sunrise after a long cold winter night... I'm so glad I saw it through to the dawn.. Thank you, Bruce Cockburn.

Bruce has always been a great shadow light in music. He is one of the best songwriters of the age and so underappreciated. Many have outsold him, but rarely have any achieved his talent.

Love this song! Was just introduced to Bruce Cockburn today and feel I've been deprived all my life. Will always think of my uncle, auntie and Canada when I hear this ❤

This song is on the album Dart to the Heart. Some of my favourite albums are Inner City Front, Stealing Fire, Night Vision, Big Circumstance, but he has many more.

Better late than never, and never have those words rang more true than for the person who finally discovers this genius talent! I know it took me way too long too, but thank God I found Bruce 10 years ago-it has been a fabulous ride since! Enjoy!

There you go Swimming deeper into mystery Here I remain Only seeing where you used to be Stared at the ceiling 'Til my ears filled up with tears Never got to know you And suddenly you're out of here Gone from mystery into mystery Gone from daylight into light Another step deeper Into darkness Closer to the light Walked outside Summer moon was nearly down Mist on the fields Holy stillness all around Death's no stranger No stranger than the life I've seen Still I cried Still I begged to get you back again Gone from mystery into mystery Gone from daylight into light Another step deeper Into darkness Closer to the light

A reporter asked Slash (from Guns 'n Roses) what it felt like to be the best guitarist in the world. His response: "Why you're asking me? Ask Bruce Cockburn!"

It's a stock story told about every amazing guitarist. Common names substituted are Phil Keaggy, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton. You can find more about it on Phil Keaggy's Wikipedia page

So little comments in here, how poor!! ?? Hello, where are you all?? All you nice peoples/human beings??? !! Maybe the light will come soon, ... I just hope, we will not need to get much deeper into darkness, 'till we get closer to the light!!

well, what can I say, not many people know about Cockburn but Someone here in Panama does , I apreciate this man´s awesome talent. When I was a park ranger in Canyondlands N.P. in Utah in early 90´s my park trailer house roomate turned me on to Bruce, he would often drive for a full day or more to go see the grateful Dead (not my kind of band) but I still listen (and Play) to Bruce years later. Plus even now in my late 50´s I can sing his vocal range. Definately deserves a lot more recognition and/or a bigger following...
