@@stephanea5364 I was and am a huge Bruce Lee fan, and still am. But the older you get and access to more information gives you insight about the Bruce Lee myth. He had a huge impact on Martial arts, no one can doubt that, he was trained to be an actor by his parents, he trained martial arts, he was a handsome Asian guy, looked good & had very good skills. But was he the martial arts icon that most tend to believe? No, because he has no credible history of international bouts, or winning multiple international tournaments. Seriously compare him to Mohhamed Ali for example.. You cant. Ali deserves all the credits he gets because he was truly a boxing world champion & icon, Bruce Lee was a great martial arts ACTOR.

He revolutionised martial arts in so many ways, even the way people trained. @@im_stilldizzy Add to that Artie Simmons, George Cofield, Ray Cooper, Thomas LaPuppet, Jim Jones, Preston Baker, and Tayari Casell. Black Belt Magazine didn't front cover them either. All dynamic like Vic but whats that got to do with Lee? Lee wasn't THAT hot at all at the time. You have to understand how Ed Parker and Robert Trias started this feud nonsense in the first place. Robert Trias bragged no one could out class his midwest black belt stable which included Vic. Parker differed. Joe Lewis and Lee were Parker's smoking guns. They all saw Lee the night before at the hotel banquet. Trias wasn't enamored or starstruck at all. He didn't even speak to Lee. Sat next to him and didn't say a word. Lee was a kung fu guy. All hype. And Kung Fu was flowery weak. That was the karate attitude to Lee's face. Even Parker's guy like Lewis had their nose up. So Lee asked one of them to hold a pillow to his chest. He did. He fired that inch punch of his and over the couch the black belt went. Silence. Then whispered obscenities followed by nervous laughter. The group went their separate ways. Not one asked Bruce what he did except one. And it wasn't Vic. The next day, the invite went out to ANYONE to get up there with Lee. No one volunteered. Trias didn't like that and snatched a nod to Vic to get up there. Those who missed the block the night before were not about to get embarrassed by that little chinese guy again. Vic was loyal to Trias. Not one to ask questions. He got up there. You saw it. No editing. No alternate version. Lee's rep was not big enough to protect yet and the chinese were not as behind him as you would think. Lee was everything people said he was. Know why? Bruce Lee would not like where martial arts has gone now. There is no deep philosophy in it, no respect for the opponent, no graceful fluid movement. By making martial arts a free for all it has been made into a cheap unsacred commodity. I hate MMA and I'm totally sure Bruce Lee would too. I don't think MMA was his intention. Bruce Lee never intended for all the different schools of martial arts to be mixed up like that. Sure he invented Jeet Kune do, but that is strongly based on wing chun tradition. Bruce Lee didn't start doing karate chops judo throws. What tradition does is keep something purist. Like if you are breeding mustang horses you don't want other horse types being bred in. Being sacred means that there is secrecy and exclusivity, and that makes it special, which gives something immense value. Once its out there in public, easily accessible, it's just a commodity. Tradition is a good thing. And i completely understand why traditional martial art schools back in China and Hong Kong were furious with Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee's master Ip man was far far superior.

@@shaunhumphreys6714 If Bruce Lee was looking for efficiency, why would he hate MMA ? Btw, MMA is not really a martial art. It's a combat sport. It's not meant to look good, that's why there are no "graceful fluid movements".

@@Ray-jg5dj Bruce Lee sort to simplify Wing Chun, but he still believed in the purism and spirit and philosophy and classicalism and aesthetics and secrecy of martial arts. Bruce Lee didn't want to mix all the martial arts in the world together in a clumsy way. The aesthetics of the martial art was still important to him. His form of Wing chun is still quite pure. But more importantly, as I said the philosophy of martial arts, the spiritual side, this is what is completely lost in the western materialistic version of it. The western martial arts, in particular MMA produces a vulgar fight form, as vulgar and crass as boxing. But in the eastern martial art schools, there is a purism, a spirituality and a beauty to it. While I said Bruce Lee still cultivated quite a pure wing chun, he still did a disservice to martial arts, which is why the eastern martial arts schools spoke against him and shunned him. And rightly so. Bruce Lee sold all the secrets of these ancient eastern martial art schools to make money. This violated the ancient codes of martial arts, values such as honour, in which only worthy pupils with strong moral characteristics were imparted with martial art teaching. When you open up an eastern martial arts to everyone who will pay, it ceases to be special. .

@@Ray-jg5dj the so called MMA of today is just cage fighting. punching some kicks, anything goes, opponents may not be following any particularf martial arts at all. That means MMA is in the cage survival not skill. because it takes measured skill to have mastered your martial art, its forms, its defensive moves, its offensive moves. MMA also strips away all the philosophy of martial arts/ granted, bruce lee was already doing that as he took ip man's training, and exposed it to the public despite the opposition of the council of martial arts in china, or whatever the organisation is called that represents the traditional martial arts.MMA has no grace no style., its banal and scrappy. bruce lee still worked within a disciplined system of forms and moves. MMA does not. and frankly MMA has just turned now into boxing with the occasional kick alot of martial arts are neglected in MMA. Contrary to what modernists say, virtually all martial arts are useful for combat.. bruce lee's updated version of wing chun was developed for defeating opponents who were not using wing chun but any time of fight style , even in non tournament situations. so wing chun would work in MMA, but noone does it there as far as ive seen. brazilian ju jitsu is widely regarded as the best modern martial art, the most effective yet few use it now adays in MMA. Having it completely freestyle means the fighters are not being obedient to any particular martial arts form, in fact they could just punch and kick and scrap and not be following any formal martial art system. this just makes it like a street brawl. so MMA is not in the spirit of martial arts. it is a western commercialised version of it, which like western buddhism does to original eastern buddhism, removes all the deep philosophical and spiritual content. In martial arts fighters show great respect to their opponent, in MMA like boxing there is trash talk, and its violent. martial arts is strong and powerful but never violent., even when finishing off an opponent traditional martial arts is respectful, humble and graceful. there is none of these 3 qualities ie MMA. Therefore i cannot consider MMA to be martial arts. rather its just cage fighting. Yes cage fighting is all it is, and there is no difference between cage fighting and the so called MMA of today. both are in enclosed environment, both can use any moves they want. there is a discipline and far greater skill to sticking to one martial arts form, rather than the MMA/cage fighting freestyle. so yes, i think bruce lee would have taken a long MMA to accept MMA, though probably eventually he would,, but i blame bruce lee for its existence. i wish he had stayed in hong kong. he went to the states for money only. and thats another thing i hate about bruce lee, he abused the sanctity of martial arts to fill up his own purse, preferring hollywoods dollars than his own martial art, and the philosophy of Ip man who trained him. i dont like ANYTHING utilitarian, this applies to modern buildings which are built as cheaply as possible, and have no aesthetic beauty martial arts should be beautiful even though its fighting. pure traditional martial arts are beautiful. one purest form of fighting that is still going on though not i think classified as a martial artist , is fencing, itself inspried by european swordfighting pre-pistols.and gunpowder, Bruce lee was influenced by and took up fencing himself. it is an olympic sport for a long time. it is quite an upper-middle, upper class duelling system, so it has class and sophistication, unlike cage fighting/MMA.MMA's origins lie in cage fighting, and in no way are influenced by traditional martial arts.

I think Bruce would have been highly impressed by John Jones. As tall and long-limbed as he is, John is agile and fast for someone of his height and slinky but muscular build. Bruce was amazed at the speed and light foot work movement of Mahammed Ali. He couldn't understand how someone of Muhammad's size could be so fast and light on his feet. This is were Bruce got his inspiration for his "dancing" foot style that you see in his films but could be used and integrated into any martial art style. Well, how do most MMA fighters today move around on their feet?...by use of Ali's style of foot movement. Ali was known for it in boxing but it was Bruce who used it in Chinese style of boxing and incorporated it in his own martial art form. Bruce was an avid observer and used anything he could use and discard anything he thought was useless.

Bruce Lee was so far ahead of his time : father of MMA. He incorporated all styles when traditionalists wanted to shun him. He wanted to spar all full contact when the 60s saw Karate point fighting. He was experimenting with electrical stimulation, raw eggs in shakes, when people thought he was crazy. If he was alive today: his work ethic, speed, brilliance and natural talent would NO DOUBT make him UFC CHAMPION in his weight class - 135-145lbs. In the 60s, he was a legend.

He took the hits. He took the falls. The man out there trading hands with Bruce in his regular clothes and heeled shoes on that hard gym floor was twelve to fifteen years older than Bruce. Lee could have used someone younger. He didn't. Bruce didn't have a space to teach. This man took Lee out of the parking lot and into his grocery store basement. He showed Lee the ropes of business. Taxes. Keeping the books. He was Bruce's best man. He traveled with Bruce doing this demo where ever they were invited. Booked the hotel rooms and logged future demos. He took the hits. He took the falls. He put on the gear and took it again through the years and never asked for anything in return. Taky Kimura was that way with his instructor until the day Bruce passed. I visited Lee's gravesite just as most of the world has and I do mean the world. It was the 40th anniversary and people from Japan , the Netherlands, and Israel were there. Around two hundred total. Cars were lined down the hill and around to the entrance at Seattle's Lake View Cemetary. We parked and took the long walk up the grassy hill past the trees. I looked down. There was Ruby Chow's stone. To the left was Jesse Glover. Further up was Ed Hart. Then the crowd. Then Lee's fruit punch colored stone with gold lettering and Brandon's Indigo blue stone. And who was sitting on the bench with his son in the middle of it in that familiar gray wind breaker and plaid shirt? It was this man. And he was no different than he was at this tournament you're watching. Still in good shape. Still had that bass-like voice and firm articulation. You could hear a pin drop when he spoke. Phone cameras everywhere. The gravesite still groomed after decades . The flowers still organized. A separate sign in book back in the main office still dates back to 73. Looks like a phone book now. Thats was all Taky's doing. He addressed and thanked those in attendance and talked personally to those who wished his acquaintance. He respected his instructor. Thats how he was cut. Unspoiled by attention. Untarnished by grief. He lived a full 96 years of what life brought his way. A real life. You can't ask for more than that. R.I. P. Taky Kimura 1/7/21

Directness and economy of motion and effort have been part of the main tenets of Wing Chun Kung Fu, the style Lee first trained in, for several hundred years. They definitely weren't Lee's innovation. He did explore other arts outside of Wing Chun and incorporate them into his own system. One of them was western boxing, as it too seeks to simplify, minimise the effort but maximise the results.

That's the literal translation of Jeet Kune Do: The way of intercepting fist. By that he meant: From the moment where your opponent's mind decide to throw a punch to the moment where his fist actually arrives, it's a process that you have to intercept. + Movement should be fluid and continuing, not one move or two moves and then stops. But that's his early ideas. Although Jeet Kune Do is a style into which he consolidated advantages of all the styles that he'd learnt, later he developed his ideas that Jeet Kune Do is also a style that creates separation and that you should "use no way as way". This was explained in that famous TV interview: Train every part of your body so that in your mind there'd be no resistance to your natural instinct, so that when you want it, it's there, completely.

"no wonder all mma fighter says they are no match from bruce lee" No MMA fighter says that. Please stop deifying Bruce Lee; Bruce Lee wouldn't have a prayer against the modern fighters of his own era, let alone a professional fighter of today. Bruce Lee did amazing things for martial arts and his philosophy is the foundation stone of modern MMA. But stop pretending he was some kind of fighting god; he wasn't. @@phoenixj1299 "Bruce had many street fights all his life." There's not really any real evidence for this; at least not beyond the fact that when he was very young he was a troublemaker that got into fights with other kids. If that's enough to make him a competent fighter, then at least a quarter of kids from rough neighborhoods are fighting experts. Although it's worth noting that getting into street fights doesn't make someone a competent fighter. Have you ever SEEN a street fight before? The alleged street fights he took part in occurred before he had any formal martial arts training; we're not talking about some kind of underground fighting ring, we're talking about tussles with other children because he was a bad tempered trouble maker in his younger days. Although Bruce's fighting background is heavily lionized and inflated, and may in fact be mythology. His fans, for example, have outright INVENTED the myth that he was a boxing champion in his school days. This claim appears to be entirely fictional and there's no evidence whatsoever to support it; although it IS true that he won the Hong Kong Cha-Cha championship round about the same time he was supposedly winning boxing tournaments that don't appear to have ever occurred. Bruce Lee's one and only fight with a trained martial artist like himself occurred after moving to America where he had to fight for the right to teach martial arts (as the local Chinese did not like the idea of a mixed race man teaching "their" martial art). This is the only and only fight that Bruce Lee participated in that has a number of direct witnesses and which Bruce Lee describes himself; and it's the fight where he declared that "Wing Chun failed him" and he discovered it doesn't actually work in a real fight. Leading to him developing his own fighting system. Funny how he never noticed that in all the hundreds of street fights his fans claim he had before that point in time, isn't it? Bruce Lee was an amazing martial artist and his philosophy of martial arts would utterly transform martial arts forever. But he was NOT and NEVER WAS an exceptional fighter when compared to the actual professional fighters of his era, let alone the modern era. Deal with it, fanboy.

@@seraphinaaizen6278 "There is no evidence for that" Wrong. All the reliable sources in existence claims otherwise. You are someone who talk about something/someone with absolutely no knowledge . Like I said, all sources confirms it and here is one. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3i3hJSZg7uHf8k You didn't even watch his documentary that precisely states he had been in many street fights all his life. Not only that he was in "street gang" . Your ignorance is hilarious. "If thats case then everybody is a fighter" You are so much ignorant to the point that you didn't even know the difference between "kids brawls" with no knowledge of martial arts and street fighters with martial arts knowledge (who is also in street gang) compete with other gangs. Those who had real fight experience are the only ones who are competent fighters/experts like Bruce. Competing in sports doesn't make one a fighter. It makes on an athlete. Thats why even Legendary UFC/MMA athletes are getting destroyed in street fights/real fights. "The alleged..." first of all there are so many evidence for that so it wouldn't come under the category of "alleged". Disproved. Bruce constantly had many street fights in his life and that's the reason why he moved to USA."Mythology that his fans invented" first of mythology won't have any evidence. Your statement is disproved again. Although it's true that he won cha-cha champion..." So you want to consider things to be true based on your preference. Typical kid. He won the cha-cha championship,he was an actor and a street fighter. Watch his documentaries so atleast you will know a clue about him. Even if you watch it ,it's useless because haters like you turn blind to the truth that glorifies the one who hate. "And he supposedly won a boxing tournament that didn't occur" another proof that you lack the fundamental characteristics of a human. There are numerous witnesses and photo evidence of the boxing tournament against Gary Elms. Again turning blind to the truth I see as you are butthurt that Bruce would destroy your favourite athlete easily. "This is the only fight" Completely wrong. There are numerous fights he had in his entire life. I will tell u what I remember.1) Real match with no rules against Taky kimura in long beach tournament. 2) Real match with no rules against the best student of Father of American Kenpo,Ed Parker....Dan Inosanto 3) Against Yoichi Nagachi ,karate grandmaster where Bruce destroyed him in seconds. 4) Against the gang member in Enter The Dragon set. 5) An intruder to his house. 6) Muay Thai fighter in Big Boss set. As you can see ,I can already name atleast 6 fights among "many other real fights" of Bruce that completely debunks your ignorant claims.Every statement from you is wrong (except Bruce being cha cha champion) son congratulations. "With the fight against WJM wing chun failed him and discovered it didn't work" Wrong again. He didn't think wing chun "failed him" or he didn't think that "it doesn't wrok in street fight" . The reason why he was upset is because he didn't finish the fight as fast he expected. Before that fight Bruce had a rule that he taught his students as well. "A street fight should end in seconds (60 sec at max) . But the fight with WJM lasted 3 min so he was disappointed with that alone.Nothing more.I can't blame Bruce because WJM was running away so of course the fight took more than 60 sec. "Funny how didn't notice that..." First of all there is nothing to notice because 1)He didn't lose to WJM 2)He was still undefeated using wing chun against WJM 3)He never lost the fight before. Technically , wing chun worked in the fight with WJM with other styles. But he didn't anticipate the fight would go for 3 min. Plus he was ended matches quickly before so of course he didn't notice it. It's funny how I had to explain you common sense. If Bruce was defeated or had a fight that lasted more than 60 sec, then he would have noticed the weakness of wing chun. He "didn't" consider wing chun as ineffective. He "found the weakness" of wing chun. I think you are one of those who believe adapted movies are real. Also just use your brain and think why world champions like Chuck,Joe Lewis,Mike Stone, Hayward Nishioka,Skipper Mullins,Louis Delgado became his students. Deal with it hater. EDIT:So you are a weeb i see...Hm....it explains somethings.

One of the best films if not the best film on Bruce Lee. He beat his opponent at every attack. And pulled his punches and kicks. And the blinding speed of his round house was fantastic. His power was unprecedented. And his techniques were top notch. Excellence at its best = Bruce Lee.

I wanted my hair like him, bought posters of him for my room, even got hands on nunchucks and practiced for hours... I used to often go to this shop that had tons of posters of him on the walls, i mean tons. I used to get so upset cause I didnt have the money to buy them all. He was a giant in the 70's....

Bruce teached the absolute world elite of that time - Mike Stone, Chuck Norris, Jim Kelly and Joe Lewis! They fight and win nearly every tournament among themselves! Listen to what they say about him! There is absolutely no doubt that he really has an maybe god-given natural talent that no one can normally reach! Listen to Jackie Chan, Bolo Yeung, Dan Inosanto, Sammo Hung and countless others! He learned Wing Chun not from any teacher around the corner like most people today! No, he learned directly from Yip Man! He had close contact to the very best fighters in the world of many styles- and learned from them over years! I really think he was a whole century ahead of his time and that´s it! He used acting to show his philosophy and fighting-style to the world! Bruce Lee was without any doubt a fighter and maybe even not easy to handle for others as a human being! One reason is for sure the racism against chinese people in america back then! He perfected his body, he perfected the way of training with equipment that no one has used before! Next he created a very effective way of fighting on his own as a mixture of Taekwondo, Wing Chun and modern western boxing, named Jeet Kune Do! And last but not least he changed the way of modern filming, fighting and pop culture all in all! He became an Idol for athletes, boxers, dancers and all kind of people who strive for perfection in their art! Sorry, but this was stuff that in my opinion no one to this extent reached ever again! And there is so much more to tell! The honor is due to Bruce Lee as the greatest martial artist of all time! Point!

It's 2019 and I see some comments saying Bruce Lee wouldn't hold a candle to MMA fighters today. What these guys don't realize is Bruce Lee was very adaptive. Given the chance his JKD would have definitely inherited modern MMA styles. It wouldn't have remained stagnant. Same as he was trying to break the mold of traditional Chinese martial arts back then. There's no doubt in my mind that Bruce Lee today would absorb all the knowledge from today's MMA styles.

That is martial arts for you, a very large portion of eastern martial arts is highly defensive, waiting for your opponent to either attack or open themselves up, and strike. In kung fu especially, patience is the most important factor, kung fu is not designed to be aggressive, it is designed to be defensive, moving in a way that forces your opponent to move a certain way is also a worldwide martial arts law, as brienne of tarth said "don't go where your opponent leads you". Now an eastern style that is entirely aggressive is muay thai, but that shit is still a battlefield style.

@Brick Schitthouse you dont know what your talking about so stop. Go do lil bit of research into Bruce, his speed, ability. He was trained originally in Wing Chun but later developed his own martial art "Jeet Kune Doe" which is like wing chun but with more kicks and lil more aggressive. Seriously, you must not have watch the whole video or are basing your assessment of him based solely on this one video. Bruce is not qualified for MMA? Wtf are you talking about?! Bruce fought like mma everytime he fought. Watch some of his sparring, his REAL, sparring matches. Look at his ability and his speed, he would legit be a world champion level MMA fighter. I love when like you say that without knowing half about them. Yeah Bruce might be overrated, well not really overrated but over sensationalised atleast, but he's still an extraordinary martial artist with incredible abilities. Most ppl said what your saying until they put on gloves n got in the ring with him. They figured, 5'4" 140lbs, what can he do? Well ALOT, , if you wanna be technical, saying Bruce is not qualified for MMA is asinine as Jeet Kune Doe is almost MMA, basically taking what works from every other martial art and combining it into one form that doesn't have a set rule of directions or nothing set in stone about rules or doing it a certain way, he literally brought MMA to the world. So saying the Godfather of MMA isnt qaulified is ridiculous. You might, just maybe, might wanna do some research before you reply

@Brick Schitthouse another thing this is a real sparring video, if you can not tell that there's a world champion level fighter, sparring in front of you. Then you really do NOT know this sport or martial arts atleast. There are ppl with years and years experience in this sport and have studied it and all that and have watched this video right here and said that it shows an extremely talented fighter. Bruce wasn't even full contact or full fight mode, if this was a bare knuckle or real fight, no joking, he would have torn the guy to shreds. He rips ppl apart while smiling and laughing.

Ehh, how do people know what Bruce Lee's fighting record was? Did they have the UFC back then or something? Oh, you must be referring to his boxing record. Or was he supposed to enter a Karate Tournament for an official record? Ahh the internet. Funny kids.
