45 years after his death, Bruce is still recognized as the greatest martial artist in history and the mastermind behind a generation. To achieve so much, to rethink the genre of cinema and, in principle, to acquaint the mass audience with the true beauty and effectiveness of martial arts, and all this in 32 years of life, is truly incomprehensible...

As a young featherweight amateur boxer in the 1970's I went to the cinema to see Enter the Dragon. It changed my life forever. I watched in utter amazement at the speed and talent that Bruce Lee possessed in his repertoire . I actually incorporated some of his moves into my style. It helped me win many of my bouts. Like Bruce, I was a bit of a fitness freak and lived in the gym, I never drank or smoked and lived a clean life. I read many books to help me understand his philosophy. I was saddened to hear of his passing in 1974 at the height of his career. We never really got to see the greatness of the man, only glimpses. Bruce Lee left us with a legacy in history which I don't believe anyone can replicate.

Bruce Lee wouldn't have had 30 more years to develop. Biologically speaking, when Bruce died at the age of 32, he may have add another 10 to 15 years to continue to develop before biology took over and he started the slow decline that happens for all men. Even performance-enhancing drugs, or in Bruce's case, health supplements, can only help stop or slow the degeneration to a certain level, before age is too great a factor.
@waltersimmons946
@waltersimmons946 6 ай бұрын
@scottnever8732 That wasn't the point. Had Lee lived longer, and the brain edema episode NOT have happened Lee would've definitely kept training , kept doing interviews blasting classical techniques which pissed some "masters" off. He would've most likely at some point got behind the camera because he already had Concord productions with Raymond Chow so he never had to sit by the phone waiting for an acting job. Since the brain edema did happen . If he lived after the second incident on July 20,1973, most likely he would have not been able to act or fight anymore and the way his personality was due to being highly active. He most likely would not have wanted to live that way not being able to do anything himself. He had stated he didn't want to be a helpless old man. Basically he lived and died the way he expected. Burning out rather than rusting out. Just saying.

Bruce is the reason I became fascinated with martial arts in the first place. His style, his philosophy, his very way of being was nothing less than beautiful. If I was given the opportunity to resurrect one person from history.... It would be a hard choice between him and Christopher Hitchens but I believe I would take Bruce. Both great minds, both great thinkers. But I believe that Bruce has not only changed the world of martial arts but changed an entire way of thinking and to that effect the world is so much lesser without him. Rest in peace Bruce you will always have my love, admiration and respect.

His philosophy still lives today as a way to look inside oneself and extend the answer currently before him to the outside self in the form of physical power. His much remembered “Be like water my friend” is still as powerful today as it is was from the time he uttered it on a Hong Kong TV show. I enjoyed this look back at Bruce Lee and his Gung fu. @UNTRIABLE GAMING Bruce was so far ahead of his time as he was a student of several crafts even beyond martial arts like boxing. He’s the true father of mixed martial arts. So if he lived today he would have put his incredible learning skills to tighten up his only MMA perceived weakness of ground game though in movies he took opponents out with rear naked chokes & triangle chokes which he used to kill Chuck Norris on film. So he could have perfected jui jitsu seeing how he used submission moves before they were well known 50 years ago. Dude was 1 of a kind & though of course many skilled fighters would favorably match against Lee.

I loved to hear Bruce Lee's personal thoughts through the interviews with him. I also loved to hear what those close to him thought. I am not a marital artist. But still I have watched this video twice. Why ? Bruce Lee has an influence far beyond marital arts and I feel this influence pushes far into humanity itself. That's why I am (in a strange way) proud to say I am not a marital artist or a boxer just to show legitimately, that in the hearts of many "Bruce Lee" was clearly someone special. "FOR ALL". As for his philosophy. Better said as his "TAO" (I think). I love it. It has far reaching implications even beyond martial arts.

The first movie was enter the dragon and it will always be the most memorable movie I have ever seen . I was about 10 yrs old and after the movie was over and we left the theater everyone was imitating his moves we all thought we were Bruce for months after us kids were still doing the fight scenes and the iconic sound he would make when delivering a blow . It was so impactful to so many people from 3yr olds to 40yr olds . You would see them recreating fight scenes and it would real serious cause everyone wanted to be Bruce and no one wanted to be the opponent especially when it came to the final scenes of the movie with the levels on each floor and the top floor final fight it was epic . As I got older the movie took on a whole new meaning and realization of the wisdom., discipline,and how extraordinarily special and unique he was . There has never been another human being of his nature to exist and in my opinion never will. There is only one Bruce and the impact on so many millions of people in his short time on this earth continues today and will for eternity. R.i.p my brother.

I've been in a lot of fights and I know one person who could be faster than him, my mom she was 5,1 tall 130 pds.when 16 I thought I was too old to be hit with a belt so tried to take it away from her .I grabbed and jerked twice.She did not let go of the belt I saw her make a fist with right hand by her side and that's all I know .I was out cold and didn't see it at all l woke up in corner of the my room and she told me not to do that again and I didn't. I'm 64 now still trying to be as fast as her. 1974 my mom was 45 when she was coming out of the bathroom and she was hit in back of her head, My mom had two moves a punch to the gut and a upper cut to chin.the lady was 6feet tall she was flying in the air landing on a table broke it, everyone there said she was out before she hit the table and Mom was on her before she hit floor . That's powerful enough to left 200 pounds off floor in just a punch.

Bruce Lee’s response to prejudice and discrimination during the early stage of his career reflects how resilient he is. Instead of cursing the world he just said fuck it I’ll go be a star somewhere else. Did just that and got people crawling back to him begging to work with him. Just because the world is against you doesn’t mean you play victim n give up. “To hell with circumstances, I create opportunities”
@Sovereign_Citizen_LEO

I don't think it was prejudice or discrimination, but rather exactly what he said. He was suitable as an actor pretty much exclusively as a martial artist. He was not good for any other type of role. That is true of essentially all actors. Almost no actors are ever cast in multiple different types of roles. But he was an influence like no other in history, not only in the martial art world, but in the world of acting for fighters/ martial artists who became actors.
@BioBoosterSoldier

@@Sovereign_Citizen_LEO he was a martial artist trying to get the leading role on a show about a traveling martial artist. He didn’t get it because either he was a bad actor or no one wants to invest in a show with an Asian lead. I would argue it’s the latter.

Bruce Lee, son of famous Chinese Opera singer-actor Lee Hoi-chuen, was a child actor who was in 20 movies by the time he arrived in the US at 18 years old. All you said is true but, not “some martial arts”. If he really knew only “some” martial arts, he wouldn’t know this much techniques from different styles from Taekwondo, Boxing, Karate, Wing Chun, Grappling, Arnis, etc. He is the one that expose Chinese Martial Arts when put into an actual fight which is Wing Chun. With his philosophy, he said Wing Chun’s stance is not open enough, only the counter attack was really useful. That’s how Bruce Lee’s journey to learn different type of styles in the world begin.

I was just a toddler when Bruce died, but growing up, I saw all of his films. He was my inspiration in formally studying martial arts in early high school (1984) and continue to do so now, evolving as I age. One of the main reasons for my decision was also based on the circumstances that Bruce found himself in - constant attempts at bullying of me and my siblings because we grew up in various places where we were not immediately accepted, we had to fight everyday, but we were glad we went through that because all those experiences toughened us, made us wiser and smarter, and more understanding and respectful of people regardless of status, age, education/intellectual capacity.... So, thank you Bruce, and to his family who continues to manage the publication of his stories. God bless you and all those who were similarly inspired by his life.

I remember crying when Kato fought Robin to a draw. I remember my uncle telling me how great Bruce Lee is after leaving Enter the Dragon at the theater. I loved Bruce as a child and still do. Steve McQueen, Burt Reynolds, Arnold, Bruce Willis, Tom Cruise….. The list of Hollywood’s top actors will continue to grow. The day Bruce died I was old enough to read the newspaper. I read the headline article time and time again trying to figure out how he could die. I didn’t believe it was possible. His was the first poster to hang on my bedroom wall. History has forgotten Steve McQueen and Burt Reynolds. Arnold, Bruce Willis and Tom Cruise will be forgotten by time as well. They are all actors. People who get paid to create illusion. Bruce Lee had ability. A three year old boy knew that Robin, Batman’s sissy sidekick, would be obliterated by Kato. Tom Cruise will go the way of Rudolph Valentino as will the other Hollywood stars, except for Bruce Lee. 100 years from now when all the other stars are forgotten children will watch clips of an exceptional man doing remarkable things. Bruce Lee will be remembered by history as the greatest male lead actor ever

Philosophically speaking, though, could/would "being Water …" mean, to stay -ALWAYS- flexible, alert and yet connected. Hence: OBSERVING, PRESERVING and ADAPTING the GIVEN moment (… SUBJECT or OBJECT irrelevant, as such APPLICABLE & APPLIABLE everywhere) is superior. From there it remains to the INDIVIDUAL to CHOSE which way to go (and 'not' as you suggested: "… mean to conform". Even "… wearing a uniform", you could still remain individual, if you manage to "be water" …;-))

To be able to truly humble ones self and spirit is the beginning of knowing who you really are .
