I enjoyed this conversation so much I came back for seconds. I particularly loved Lena & Courtney because of how differently they approached and responded to each question. Props to Bruce Miller on how he navigated this table. Having watched a lot of white men in his spot, it was refreshing to see him use his voice in a way that seemed supportive and not imposing or condescending to the different experiences here. I gotta work under Lena & Courtney one day.

This was a great great talk. Love Lena and Courtney. And all the men were so respectful and actually listened. And all really gave thought to the questions and never dismissed them. I also like, how with all the talk off diversity, HR also invites people who are not American. Because it brings a different point to the discussion as well as different race or gender. Would love to see more European, Asian, Australian and African guests. Great job.

Like what they said about difference of opinions, I never fall for “the bad guy.” I fall for “the good guy.” Not the guy who tells you he is a good guy (if you have to say it, you might not be it). I never understand why women, particularly depicted in media, falling for “the bad guy.”
@TNDCBaby6 жыл бұрын
That is because bad describes behavioral traits not the entire person. Often times the women are shown seeing the positive about a man and either ignoring, accepting, or thinking that they can change the "bad" parts. The man is never 100% useless or evil.
@carol83426 жыл бұрын
Tracey C No, no one is totally evil. But I was never looking for someone that I felt I could change. I’m not waiting around. What I am saying is that the bad boys, in real life & often in the media (self involved, vain, selfish, so wrapt up in revenging their pride or taking over the world that they can’t call to say they’ll be late for dinner), were never as attractive to me as the sweet guys.
@TNDCBaby6 жыл бұрын
I got what you said about yourself. You also said, " I never understand why women, particularly depicted in media, falling for “the bad guy.” I was giving my input as to why it happens. There is often enough good in them that they see something worth investing their time into being with them. Be it attractiveness, sex, money, the hint of danger, the ability to make them feel good when they get together there is obviously some element that they find appealing and good enough to draw them in.

If your going to create a show(movie) about a specific story (experience) its the responsibility of the person staffing writers to get folks that can shine authentic nuance viewpoint. So the show(movie) can be grounded in a reality that believable... Viewers can tell when a issue has been written 3rd hand perspective.

I hate the narrative that, "women don't like the nice guy." I love the nice guy, women make different choices for different reasons. All women don't like nice guys, and all women don't like the bad guy. In fact the same women might choose either a nice or bad guy just depending on her connection.

Same. I think the trope that women like bad guys is so dead and toxic and harmful.

That sad par is what Peter sad about the 'audience' will reject the inauthentic and ultimately you won't get away with hasn't been true...what we are seeing of late is that when you take the time to do the research and include or empower folks to help authenticate certain aspects of your script/show it not only will be popular to the audience that share your sentimentality/cultural queues in markets where you may be the majority enough to win no matter what, but it will extend across those lines and even be celebrated in places with people that have a lot fewer things in common on surface with you because you took a human approach I don't write Black Man tales or only about my life...I want to write and paint worlds real and imagined without an anchor at times...Enjoyed this discussion and the voices...I've learned I need to watch more work and know a bit more about who is writing/directing if I want to build. The writing/submitting spec scripts is something I was curious about and need to research more as I wasn't sure if you are submitting to a show that is more progressing episodic than anthology to you have submit during a sweet spot when they are wrapping on a season and the season may be finished airing and you are moving with the story properly or is it just about creativity and showing you know how to find and create in the voices of the characters and in keeping with the tone of the show? Nascent Professional Writer...want to be at this table one day. Will be at this table one day.

To the question who could write what. The point that all of them are missing is that that criticism is only given when people make shows and movies about a topic they know nothing about. They are talking about white people writing black role but that isn't the issue. Prime example of the issue is superhero movies. Green Lantern, X-Men 3, and Catwoman. Three movies that have so much source Material but people fail to do their research and think they have a better way to tell the story. It is sad that people dont take the time to research the project.
@TNDCBaby6 жыл бұрын
They do research the project. You don't think that the guy knew all about the Phoenix saga? His problem is he thought it would do as a secondary story. He says so on one of the roundtables. They should have seperated them and given it the full attention that it deserved.

Didn't watch this one since there wasn't anyone big this time around. I'm all for diversity but it usually helps if they add one person who is in charge of a prestige drama. Like Joe Weisberg never attended one of these nor Ray McKinnon. Though kudos for inclusion. Lena Waithe is cool though, just that she doesn't have a prestige show under her belt.
