It's crazy that Vince McMahon's NDAs was worth more money then the WCW as a company. Those women or men that signed the NDAs must be loaded with money now. Where can I sign one? Janel Grant signed one but I think she'll get the biggest payout of money then all the others combined. Again, where can I sign one? The good thing that came out of this so far is that Vince McMahon has zero control over anybody. For 50+ years he had control over his wrestlers. He belittled and embarrassed and cheated his wrestlers for so many years It's mind boggling. We all know about the female wrestlers and the hell they went through. He is such a spiteful and evil person that he sold the company so his children and grandchildren could not continue on with the company they helped build. Vince's day is coming but not quick enough.

Getting the video library was smart what he should have done was get a 50/50 partner and have it as WWE gets the videos and Vince get someone else to fully run WCW. Now don’t have wrestlers cross over every week but stay for the full term of the contract for the brand they signed.
@Rjensen23 ай бұрын
You should have followed things at that time. 😂
@jd91193 ай бұрын
What channel would WCW run on? Time Warner was going to cancel all of WCW's tv shows (except for Worldwide which was syndicated). Without a TV deal, WCW had nothing except a ring and guaranteed contracts that they had to pay out (and Time Warner still had to pay the contracts that weren't on WCW's books). Vince merely bought the Library and got to cherry pick which contracts (that were under the WCW books) that he wanted to keep. If Vince didn't buy WCW when he did, they probably wouldn't have even gotten to do a final Nitro episode.
@shawnathin74503 ай бұрын
@@Rjensen2 I was I been a wrestling fan since I was a little boy. You might have missed my point. If Vince keep it running he would have to stay away and whoever was in charge like Shane don’t change anything he does. Run it like a separate motion and entity. I’m sure Vince could get a TV deal with other networks or TV station. One more thing no cross promotion if you sign a WWE contract then you can’t wrestle for WCW but when your contract is up you can negotiate to wrestle in WCW only. One more thing is WCW would be like NXT. WCW can be the one that has less PLE and TV shows and more house shows.

None of the WCW big name talents wanted to work for WWF knowing they would bury them because they chose WCW and not Vince. All you have to look at is how they treated Sting at Wrestlemania. The only two that were given real shots were Booker T and Goldberg. DDP's run was bad. Vince just had it in for anyone who was part of WCW.

Guys were given a shot though, thing is Vince wasn’t going to treat WCW guys coming in like they were already stars. They basically had to start over from scratch. Guys like Booker T, Shane Helms, Rey Mysterio etc. rose to the occasion because they accepted the circumstances, didn’t cry about it and passed the gauntlet. It’s not fair but if you played the game you could have carved out a second career. Even DDP who had a shatty burial coming in was finally starting to get over again with his motivator gimmick but had to bow out early because of a neck injury.
@zeromagnum28113 ай бұрын
Wasn't just Booker and Goldberg. They pushed Rey to the moon. Hurricane beat the Rock. Molly Holly and Torrie Wilson. Flair with Evolution. Bischoff as GM. As for Sting, I believe 100% that had he come in 2001 he would have been pushed to the moon. Because he intentionally didnt for so long that was why he got fed to DX at mania. Had he not got hurt against Rollins I think he'd have got 1 push in that run and won the title. And likely got the match with Taker after a point.
@ryantiller56243 ай бұрын
It was only about half a year later they had Ric Flair and the nWo. If only they could've been patient and held off the invasion angle for just a bit. Imagine if the first "WCW" main event wasn't Booker T vs Buff Bagwell, but something like Flair, DDP & Booker T vs Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash & Scott Hall, a classic WCW vs nWo. And then you could end the match with some WWF guys getting involved and WCW and nWo find themselves fighting them off together and then dramatically realizing they need to put their differences aside and align against WWF. People always say it was impossible to do the Invasion angle properly with the guys they got, but if they just held off for half a year it could've been done.

@mattdonovan21333 ай бұрын
I agree he shouldn’t have bought WCW. Reason why, because WCW would have gone down on its own but buying your competition is stupid because it drives down your company. Now that you have no one running neck and neck with you. Hate to say it but WCW is what made WWF at the time interesting because it wasn’t the only option so going back and forth on a Monday night was worth it’s weight in gold. Plus it helped talent perform better because they didn’t want any of their viewers at the time switching to watch WCW
@jd91193 ай бұрын
WCW was going to be canceled by TBS and TNT. If you don't have a TV deal, you don't have a promotion. WCW was finished. Vince just bought the Library and got to cherry pick some of the lower card talents that he wanted to bring in.

I do think the buyers remorse for WCW for Vince is true because while he made a lot of money off its video library I think he realized by 02 what that competitor did fkr his company ratings wise, work wise, talent wise, etc, it gave the WWE a reason to be the best week in and week out and within a few years you could see that company was slipping but with no one to compete with you were in no danger of going out because you're the only show in town. It's one of the few times have the remorse not because you lost money no it's because you suddenly wake up one day and go I've lost my edge or creativity and they way I use to get it back os gone.

There’s so many NXT stars that fail when they go to Raw or SmackDown. WCW should be brought back as the step up from NXT. Then a bodafide WCW world champion could clash with a WWE Champion and sell out the box office. A rising NXT star rising up the ranks to the main roster turns a few heads on Raw and SmackDown but they ultimately always lose and half the people that don’t even watch NXT don’t care for who they are yet alone want them to genuinely win the WWE title on night one of their in ring debut. A year down the line they are forgotten or end up in AEW. Ricochet for example would be an incredible asset to a new WCW but instead he is another one that’s gone.

WCW was a dead brand. Vince McMahon couldn't get it on TV even with the WWE brand name behind it. So no one was going to get it on TV. Bischoff and company had already pulled out as they weren't going to buy it without a distribution deal. No network wanted to touch it. So if Vince hadn't bought it, it would be in the same place that the second UWF is, regulated to the history books. Vince's deal was the only one worth a damn and as plenty of people have pointed out, he made it back in the DVD sales it afforded him.

Even TNN ultimately passed on airing a WCW branded show. And without any of the top stars, who were sitting at home collecting their money from Turner, it would've bombed anyway. WCW had no television anymore. Also, Stu Snyder was a bigwig at WWF at the time. He used to be an executive at Turner and put together the deal with his buddy Brad Siegel, the guy at Turner who was in charge of WCW. Some people believe Snyder used his connection with Siegel to have him get new Turner head Jamie Kellner, who hated wrestling, to cancel the shows so Fusient would hopefully pull out and WWF could then buy it on the cheap, since WCW programming on Turner Networks had been an obstacle in them buying it several months earlier (Viacom had an exclusive deal with WWF and they saw a WWF owned WCW with programming on rival networks not under their umbrella as a violation of the agreement)

Pro rasslin is on life support! Kids don't even care about it anymore. That used to be half the market! Dorks and nerds are what's keeping it from totally disappearing today! Just look at the crowds! 30-50 yr old losers!

The one thing that Prichard, Bischoff, Cornette, Dutch and even Russo agree on - Meltzer is a liar.

He’s probably made his $4 million back selling nWo t-shirts alone. Clown

That makes sense if he buys his competition. You have no way to improve yourself and get better if there is no competition for you to actually go against your content will be stale.

Vince put wcw out of business, its not good to have one company running everything because where do wrestlers go when wwe releases them? At least AEW is around now so talent can go if wwe doesnt want them

It wasn't good at all i think that's when some fans stop watching wrestling i know i did i never been a fan of wwe. Always been a fan of wcw even when they was down.

If he didn’t buy WCW, WWF(Now WWE) would’ve had a much longer Attitude era.

One company having a monopoly was not a good thing. Competition drove innovation and pushed the envelope to make incredible tv. Without that competition complacency took over and it has never been the same. That edge is gone. Now, there are other companies though they still are not the caliber of prime wcw and probably never will be. Maybe the new uncensored approach on Netflix may help. I would really like to see aew tna and perhaps even the new really take off and thrive. Bring back competition and a territory system on a nationwide stage. Also, tearing down the forbidden door could be great as wwe and tna are doing now. But reserve it for special occasions. Maybe one super show a year that contains performances from all Companies creating many dream match scenarios. Incorporate company specific special matches like a royal rumble. Ultimate X. Etc.

WWE hasn’t always been that great either. Watch any show ppv or raw from 94-96 it was horrible. It was more cartoon like than jim Cornette think 80s WWF was.

If Vince McMahon hated WCW so much, he shouldn't have bought it in the first place, and let the REAL company like Televisa-Univision buy WCW at a fair and just price (value at $40 million) including name, tapes, legal fees and contracts of young talents and get rid of the old washed up has-beens and never will bes and bring in more young talents to focus on clean matches and fresh storylines and better booking so it'll thrive for a long time
@FIXTREME15 күн бұрын
Why would Univision get back into wrestling if Super Astros was a successful flop that ultimately bothered them?

Just the library was worth it. If they would have streamed old jcp shows and ran the Monday night wars they could have made money on it but they just put it on the network and now peacock has it and it's not the best. I'm sure he's made money off buying wcw so 🤷

He should have kept it separate..competition keeps.wrestling fun...wcw was mishandled due to ego...sting and lex,steiner raven,kid man,booker t....should have been tops in wwe...I feel they were better than the rock and stone cold...I personally thought the rock was funny and pretty awesome...but as far as stars I felt these stars were better.and each should have been champions....creating big stars is what wrestlings supposed to be about..get them all over...they could have had their own house shows

Vince does what he always did buy out his competition and if he couldn't buy he would try to put them out of business. God help the company who tried to do the same to Vince how dare they do bad business when that trash was praised and defended for doing the very same thing by St Bruce and the WWE Zombies

I wish I could have bought it, I'd have released all the guys and made back all my money in murch. Vince buying WCW was horrible, in fact everything Vince did was horrible for the industry.

That doesn't make sense. Sure, the invasion angle failed, but the footage and intellectual property had so much value for merchandise, especially the DVDs. For $4 million, Vince probably made a fortune.
