Guys - Bruce respects Mike enough to invite him up, Mike respects Bruce enough to accept - Give Bruce some respect. If you're not into Bruce - that's fine and that's what makes the world go around. Bruce is a bad ass - you can't deny his body of work, his live shows and his writing talent. Someone below suggesting that Bruce is a poser? You lose all credibility with that statement. They're both bad asses! I'll be seeing Social D in Scottsdale during Bike Week in March - cant wait!

Bruce is s down to earth after decades of Super stardome. Compare his attitude with say Metallica or your Personal choice of the same caliber and you have to acknowledge the respect the guy has for his fans, for other artists small or huge, and how he genuinely and heartfully displays this attitude to be read by the ones most in need to feel that love. I find, without beeing a huge Bruce fan, a lot of love and respect for him to have maintained this empathy for such a long time. Same goes for Neil Diamnond, also a Superstar in his realm with a wonderful love for the common people....

One of my favorite quotes that came out after Mike released Cheating at Solitaire was ..and by the way, Misery Loves Company is a truly great track with Bruce on that disc, was .."Mike Ness is the closest thing to Bruce Springsteen the West Coast has to offer"...or something close to that. I grew up a Bruce-head but finally found Social D in 1991 and have been hooked ever since. How awesome to see these guys together on stage.

First time i ever heard Social D. was at a Springsteen show where the whole "Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell" was played before the show started. I'm like, "who IS this?!!!" Went out and got it the next day. These two have joined each other on stage more than once. Whenever Social D. plays the Stone Pony in Jersey, Bruce shows up more often than not. They both have mad respect for each other and i love them both.

The way his guitar is always on the edge of a feedback and how he uses this perfectly to create a unique sound in a genre that down to the limitation of notes, key and how to hit em should have ended perhaps with Motörhead and The Ramones and The Sex Pistols. Only sad thing with Mike is they play their stuff to slow these days...

True Story: "Hungry Heart" was penned by Springsteen for The Ramones after he saw them at the The Fast Lane in 1979. They asked him to write a song for them. A lot of punk bands during that era respected Bruce. This was the "Darkness on the Edge of Town" period, where the lyrics totally related to punk. Bruce's shows were without spectacle, dancing girls and bullshit. He was stage diving and doing all this stuff way before punk overtook music. Yes, it was around this time that Bruce was playing in front of audiences of 14,000 people, but he would also throw in gigs like Winterland in SF and the Capital Theatre in Passaic, NJ. An artist should NEVER be faulted for his popularity, but rather if he strays from his original values. It would be selfish for Bruce to play 12 straight shows at some club in Detroit as it would cut out so many other cities that could see him.

I've seen Bruce 11 times and Social D 8 times, but THIS is the moment I wish I had been there. These ARE my two favorites ever.... Springsteen was really punk on Darkness. Because the Night and Candy's Room are punk at heart... In many ways Darkness is a PUNK album. It's only natural that Bruce and Mike play together. Bruce has abandoned his punk roots (before there was punk) and Ness is more Classic rock now, but Bad Luck is one of the greats.

I'm a republican. I love Bruce and Social Distortian. Bruce Springsteen is an Obama supporting democrat. Someone on here said they love Mike Ness but hate "Springsteen the Obama lover" really? If you think that Ness is a republican or something, you're in for a rude awakening. Someones political alignment and values are also not strict indicators of how good their art is and it doesn't make them a "poser" or "sell out" when they fight for their values. Bruce once threathened to fire his sax player if they took a spot in a mastercard commercial. How does that make bruce Commercial. I think people are idiots for boycotting the Enders Game Movie because the author is opposed to gay marriage. There's a lot of childishness and disrespect on both sides.
@REMIHUSE10 жыл бұрын
Who the hell care what political meaning the artist have? Enjoy the music and lyrics of these 2 great artist ;)
@CLP-t7c10 жыл бұрын
I could care less about politics when it comes to music and artists.. The Nazi bands would be the exception, but their music sucks anyway. Great point Devin
@CLP-t7c10 жыл бұрын
And commercial success in music has little to do with being on commercials. And "poser" has nothing to do with fighting for values- except for the basic anti-authority principle in a lot of music, especially the punkers. It's about their talent and rock-n-roll attitude, not whatever political labels are assigned to them.
@ivanblanco81657 жыл бұрын
Regardless of politics, American music is always best (IMO) when it's from the position of someone punching up. Mike Ness and Springsteen both embody that blue-collar every-man that really helps make their music feel relatable.
