Once in a while you come across something that will be with you the rest of your life. Michael - thank you. This was spot-on beautiful, and you handled Clarence's part wonderfully, and at the end I was able to pick it up and sing along to your music at the end... I even got in the Jungleland howls. Tonight was my first time hearing this, and I'm willing to bet in the next 5 years I'll have listened to it a thousand times. I'll loop it and play it while I work on the computer. I ve seen Springsteen and his band alive and i can say to you that the main pianist is the top of piano players So this leads me to say that the songs he produces on the keyboard are super hard and requires a lot of technique and time. to play Springsteen songs you need really to have patience to do so. I consider jungleland and point blank hardest to play than chopin and bethoveen . Very few people play chopin so you can see how good you are. Hardest than this just dire straits tunel of love or sultans of swing . So as a piano player i can only say that you are very good and you practicse a lot . Not everybody has patience to play a 9.30 minute song. So congratulations you made my day and keep the rythm

Hi Andre, thanks for your support! I've spent years learning classical music from a great teacher. It's the lessons she has taught me that allow me to approach something like Jungleland. Hi Joseph, thank you so much for your comment. Don't give up! If you haven't already, I'd like to suggest that you find a copy of Hanon's piano exercises. They're quite boring, but they will give you the strength and dexterity to tackle this. Good luck!
@josephsliker21344 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the suggestion. I will look into it. Although I had not attempted (seriously) to learn to play an instrument until my retirement I've (finally) found a very good teacher who is tolerant of my impatience with "mere" exercises (I do some) and helps me break favorite, short pieces that I love into manageable, parts. I'm getting close to being able to recognizably play some short Tom Waits pieces, but I there are many Springsteen pieces that I'd love to do to (I think Roy Bittan's piano that underlies many of these may be a big part of it). Roy Bittan's "Rider's in the Night" is also way up there.
@michaelarrom944 жыл бұрын
@@josephsliker2134 Kudos for getting started now! So let me tell you a bit about my story...when I was 12, I was determined to play the Grieg Concerto. I had an accommodating teacher who didn't make me do the exercises that I hated so much. I made progress though sheer willpower, but couldn't quite get it right. I changed piano teachers and my new teacher busted me back down to the beginning and made me do all the exercises. I came back to the Grieg a year later and it was a completely different experience. Having that foundation is so important and is a very worthwhile investment. That foundation helped me play Jungleland with a lot less effort than you might guess. I'm now on the popular music faculty at USC Thornton and I still keep my very tattered copy of Hanon with me. Matter of fact, I've been recovering from a mild injury and just pulled out the Hanon this morning to help with my recovery. It's good stuff :)

Amazing rendition of a modern day masterpiece on the piano. Love how you handled the Sax solo. Springsteen will live forever through musicians like you!

Hi Dennis, Thanks for your comment! I really miss Clarence, so glad I got to see him play before he passed.

There's a cover band that pays him a great tribute. "Bruce in the USA" Saw them in Brooklyn earlier this year before the big lockdown. The Big Man lives on!

Michael, I am listening again to this so well played "cover" and I wish to go to the Hollywood Bowl or the Greek Theater here in Los Angeles and hear/see YOU there. It would be an unforgettable experience. I wish it knowing I may not be around another decade and could that happen even!?! If wishes were...! To see piano notes descend to the heavens. If wishes were..

Hi Sharon, I hope you're well! I just saw your comment again and wanted to let you know that I DID make it to the Hollywood Bowl. I played at last year's Playboy Jazz Festival on June 10, 2019. Thanks for your good wishes! Sending them all back to you :)

Michael Arrom...magical... you remind me just a bit...of Keith Jarrett.

Hi Jason, thanks for your comment, haha, sorta. Took a visit to your page and you've got some nice piano chops yourself. You're most of the way there. Pull out a copy of Hanon's exercises and go to town...you'll get there! Let me know how it goes for you.

Hi Michael Thank you for the encouragement, I'll have a go and see how I get on. Watching players as great as yourself serves to both inspire and frustrate me in equal measure. I wonder if Prof. Bittan has seen this rendition, as I reckon he would be impressed.

@@MrSongfarmer I have tremendous respect for Bittan and would be thrilled if he ever heard my version. Funny side note, unlike Bittan, I really am a music professor! I am on the adjunct faculty at the University of Southern California.

simply outstanding - I've been a fan of the boss for longer than I can remember and that is as good as Roy Bittan. Learning the piano so I can play this song in particular but it could take a while!
@michaelarrom947 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Chris! I'm a big fan of Roy Bittan, so your comment means a lot to me. My advice is to get comfortable with your metronome. There are some cool smart phone apps out there if you don't have one already. Slow the tempo down as much as you need to get through the song, then gradually increase the tempo. Good luck on your piano journey!

This is an incredible arrangement . Is there sheet music available ?
@michaelarrom942 ай бұрын
Hi Mitchell, thank you for your comment. I'm sorry that I don't have sheet music for this arrangement, I played this "by ear". If you're interested in other Springsteen songs, I do have free music notes for my arrangement of Backstreets. My video here has the link back to my website where you can find the sheet music. Hope you have fun playing Bruce!
