nobody this day and age does. this was painted in the 1500s. (no internet, no distractions, plenty of boredom)

At about 13:03, where it says "To have to stoop to get on in the world," is there another proverb that relates to his foot gear? He has some kind of knee pad/shoe contraption on his right foot and calf, and the left is bare. Anyone know?
