Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak - aka the duo Silk Sonic - join The Bert Show and talk to Bert and Kristin about their new single "Smokin Out The Window" (dropping today!) and their new album, "An Evening With Silk Sonic" which drops next Friday, 11/12!
The album was birthed mid pandemic, and Silk Sonic just wanted to make music that just boosts the mood - in fact, Anderson and Bruno say they needed it just as much as anyone else. It was important for them to incorporate live music because that’s what they come from, and it was after they created their song "Leave The Door Open" that they knew that they had captured “lightning in a bottle.”

TV metrics, with three channels, and, digital metrics, with millions of choices, makes thriller to today,, essentially what Mozart was to Michael; its entirely other kind of echelon and impact; when music was monopolized. Michael was like a pope in a world with only TV and three channels, plus MTV, accompanied with a dance, a Halloween costume, and, a standardizing new medium, and sounds that were innovative. That and a motown 25 performance, when the world was waiting for the heir chosen golden child to come of age, only to blow the world's expectations away to the point 30 years, later, and a technological revolution, after, and thriller is still the golden standard. The infrastructure of music, and cultures relationship to stars in their most mystical and mysterious times substantiates what what says, stars don't shine like that, anymore. It's an entirely different ruler, and metric, plus the fact michael jackson truly was an anomaly and genius that artist today still embody, like n archetype. Mj added to the algorithm, and built the algorithm of what stars are today. For something to beat thriller it would have to obliterate thriller, like thriller did Saturday night fever, which until thriller was the greatest selling album. It would have to be that obliterating transcending and revolutionary. Thriller did not abidestirdau night fevers criteria, and, if silk sonic wants to add to the algorithm lke thriller did, it was have to totally reimagine, and rearchitect, literally, everything. It'spossible, though when michael released thriller I'm sure he wasn't focused, dressing, commemorating, nor sonicly nodding to Saturday night fever, at all. You have to understand, that we get the retrospection, though there was an entire dif universe before thriller, that after thriller nothing was the same. Thriller made MTV, literally, like MTV made thriller, it would take an entire platform like tik tok to make Bruno Mars the face of its platform, and that's not how platforms work, today. That's what I mean they don't make stars like that anymore, and that the metrics evolved.
