The Mental Health Foundation should register your channel as a guaranteed cure for all that worries one. There is nothing like a good mix of humour and competence with actual achievement to create good feelings! If we get all this from the reconstruction of the boat, I really look forward to Brupeg going out to help with ocean research as there is so much to learn!

My recommendation: keep your rubber hoses straight. Put your 90s in the pipe. You can keep cheaper bulk sections of straight hose on the boat and just cut off the lengths you need. Dont need to keep specialty 90s that take up more storage room. Also easier to replace.

Installer of gensets here. The longer you extend the exhaust etc, the bigger ID the extension should have to "breathe" without restriction. Also keep bends to a minimum and least tight as possible. Also apply an appropriate coating on the circuitboards of the ATS to prevent corrosion. Probably too late, but just my two cents worth.

I've welded in some 5mm steel plate in exactly the same situation - but instead of a bucket of water we used a small copper plate (about 120x120x12mm), with 19x200mm rod/bolt welded perpendicular to middle of one face as a kind of welding 'dolly'. The idea is that the copper plate is held upwards immediately flush under the weld using the rod as a handle underneath. The copper does three things, one is that it does not stick to the weld at all, the high conductance immediately cools any splatter coming through and best of all you get a nice finish on the underside of the weld that needs minimal clean up. In my other hand I just kept a spray bottle of water to extinguish any paint that caught fire. Burning paint makes a lot of smoke and a respirator is essential - but overall it was pretty successful for us.

nice to see the progres! this set runs great! its advisable to mount 2 shut off valves on the coolerpipes comming in to the boat... In case of a leak in that cooling pipe you can shut off the valves while working on the system insite the boat, For extra precaution mount 2 valves on the pipes,

Jènni runs. First trial a pass. Now to properly install. Please add 2 mugs of coffee as part of the start-up routine prior to any boat maneuvers. Practice runs in shallow water no wind or sea state. Humbling but builds confidence.

Gen set looks great. Since you're using keel cooling, may not know how clean the interior of the pipes are, do you think some type of cooling water filter before it goes back into the gen set would be beneficial?
@mikeskelly23566 ай бұрын
I'm sure you have good reason for welding the hatch, but it seems it would make future opening and closing much simpler and faster if a 'lip' was welded to the underside of the deck and the hatch was fastened with flush bolts and sealant. Is it some sort of insurance requirement or is it more 'I've got a nice, expensive welder, so everything must be joined with an arc'?

Great progress guys ;) Would it be safer to put shut off valves on both sea cooling pipes where they enter the bilge, in case the sea cooling pipes get damaged or corrode and allow full sea water pressure in? Cheers Ray (UK)

How long will those rubber mounts last in a heavy sea? Might be worth welding in some back up movement limiting plates just in case they break.
@ProjectBrupeg6 ай бұрын
Honestly not sure. They are the original mounts. If they prove to be an issue we will swap them out for some much heavier mounts if we need to.
@nhm28966 ай бұрын
I believe that you suffered from "Bank effects" due to shallow water. With engine power strong enough along with very little of water below the keel and a bit of bad luck you may get the opposite effect than intended. It sucks. And it's really hard to predict. All you can do is being prepared for it.

For whatever reason we need to flick the rudder from lock to lock on Brupeg as it won’t go straight in reverse if we leave it over to starboard. It needs to be hard over to port in reverse to stay in a straight line.
@Psychobilly6 ай бұрын
@@ProjectBrupeg Normally I run hard at where I’m going and then turn her hard over, then as she’s rolling into the turn I hit reverse and she’ll start walking back, then quick blips FWD and reverse just like you were doing. You will find with that wheel walk, she will handle better one way than other. Take Brupeg out next time in the open, get the cameras off and practice this. It’s all on timing really and getting the hang of it. Also knowing which way is best with Brupeg’s Wheel Walk. (Airplanes have props bro 😎) LMAO Bout as big as a debate as Motor vs Engine… Even though we have Outboard Motors and Motor oil… lmao 🤣 Your docking looked text book too BTW. It’s easy for all us to stand from the armchair and say that we could do this or that… lol Daniel said it best on Flying Coney channel (We Can’t leave the Harbor before this is done) at about 16:40. If in the future. A welding blanket held up in place with clamps and magnets. Catch everything and most of the smoke. But I am surprised you didn't make that plate into a hatch. Was it regulations that prevented it? I agree no work till coffee (s) infused to the brain.
@ProjectBrupeg6 ай бұрын
We want to add a flush deck hatch in the engine room but not right above the genset, as we want it to be an escape path. So this would be in the wrong spot, plus with the added complexity of not having a place to work for very long we really couldn’t add any extra jobs in

All engines have a seperate cooling system. Always problems if you combine them. We run an antifreeze/corrosion mix in our cooling systems as it looks after the steel and the engine
