two trains on the RR at the same time. NICE!!! With all the new cars you have now, your going to need to build a yard with 2 or 3 tracks to store things and get around. :)

It's a great car to run with. Not too heavy, but stays on the rails. Gilbert Rittenberg knew what he was doing when he made it, back in 1970. The only modification has been the couplers.

Perhaps a rail mounted brush chipper would be helpful. Either discharging into the growth alongside the track or into a chip hopper. Just a thought.

I have no experience with 7.5” or 7.25” gauge trains to any capacity, but I’ve always had the question and you seem like someone who would have a solid answer - Would running a 7.25” gauge engine/rolling stock on 7.5” gauge track hinder running quality enough to require specifically gauged track or could 7.25” gauge stock be used interchangeably on 7.5” gauge track?
@MillBrookRailroad
@MillBrookRailroad Жыл бұрын
I use 7-1/4 inch gauge equipment on 7-1/2 inch gauge track. You have to be more precise about the track gauge. My gauge tolerance is 7.500 -0.00/+0.060. I also make the switch frog flangeways 1/4 inch wider than normal.

Can you do a video talking about how much money is needed to purchase a backyard railroad and if tanker cars can be filled up with water to give your chickens water and do the grain cars hold chicken feed for your chickens and what train cars you use for maintenance around your yard and home like gardening, landscaping, and other chores around your property and what's the most train cars you can pull on 1 single train locomotive or train engine????
@MillBrookRailroad
@MillBrookRailroad Жыл бұрын
Locomotives start in the $4000 range for a new one. Used locomotives are often close to the price for new because the supply can't meet the demand lately. Cars can be had more cheaply. $1000 to $3000 new or used. Sometimes, you can find a really good deal. As far as hauling stuff on the railroad, there is one car that can do it all. The humble flat car. Two 25-gallon ATV water tanks fit on a 6-foot flat car. Bags of feed can be stacked on the deck. Put stakes on it, and you have a log car or a car to carry brush. Put sides and ends on it, and you have a gondola to put grass clippings in. Flat cars are perfect for hauling cement blocks to build a garden wall. You can also load a lawnmower on a flat car to get to a remote area. Flat cars are truly universal. They're also the easiest car to make, so they're often cheaper than hoppers and tank cars. The most I've pulled with a single engine is 2600-lbs around a 50 foot radius curve on a 2.5% grade. Notice that I don't measure it in cars, but overall train weight. It will vary depending on the locomotive, the track conditions, the condition of the cars you're pulling, how heavily each car is loaded, how sharp the curve is, and how steep the grade is and what the weather is.

I don't like to burn ties that could be used, and I tried to give them away many times over the years. But going forward, I may just start using them as kindling to get a fire lit in the steam engine once it's done.

I do build these locomotives. I ran out of wheel suppliers, so I'm working on having them done locally. The motor is a Unite Motor MY-1020 24VDC 500W motor. The controller is a Dimension Engineering SyRen 50.

You have to disguise the train sometimes so you can sneak up on the bad joints. That way, they don't see you and throw you off the track. :-)

And then the derailments come because of either worn out rail joints, bad ties, or just bad luck.
