I just found your channel tonight and I am so grateful. I have a shepadoodle which I think is a less common mix (German shepherd & poodle). I truly didn’t fathom the care his coat would need and watching this and several of your other videos has helped me realize what I need to do to take good care of his coat. Thank you!

Hi Emily, yay, so glad you found the channel and that you find it helpful! In all my years, I have not seen a GS/Poo mix - he must be adorable! (feel free to send pics: gina@ginasgrooming.com)! Glad to hear you are researching the proper care for poodle-mix coats - your pup found the right family, for sure! 🥰

Time almost up because of too long repetitions of how to comb, what to use etc ended up doing one leg behind & a bit of chest Oh well, nice standard poodle , I got a toy & learning to groom .😜❤️

Aw, Toy Poodes are adorable - congratulations on your new pup, as well as learning to maintain the coat properly! Sorry for any repetition and long discussion - I'm learning to make shorter videos much more to the point. Thank you for your feedback, and good luck grooming your Poodle! 😍

I have a goldendoodle, his hair is basically poodle hair, very course and curly. He is still very young and likes to get very dirty so when he gets groomed every month it so we go with a short cut. The brushes we have are for his longer areas just like the brush you use in this, but with his hair short the pins are too long and hurt him. Is there any brush you recommend for shorter hair?
@GinasGrooming2 жыл бұрын
Hi Carrie! First off, I love that you've chosen to keep your Goldendoodle short due to his activity level and lifestyle! For brushing shorter areas, I can recommend a "Coated Pin" slicker brush which will see him through a bit of coat growth but won't scratch his skin when he is short. Here's an example of one I have used: amzn.to/3B1bMmV. Hope this helps and thanks for watching! 😊

Hello! Okay so I have a little toy poodle. ❤ I have not been brushing her… I normally get her groomed every 8 weeks. With two or three home baths in between. How often do you recommend the in between brushing, combing and spritzing?
@GinasGrooming7 ай бұрын
Hey Cheychey! That all depends on how short you keep your poo baby. With an 8-week grooming interval, I'm going to assume that either 1) you keep them short or 2) they have a thinner, silkier coat that doesn't tangle easily. Anything over 1" (2.5cm) on the body for a Poodle will usually require weekly maintenance brushing (plus it keeps them fluffed out and extra cute). Longer parts need more attention (puffy tail, top knot, ears, bracelets, if applicable). But if your poo is running sleek and smooth all year long, your brushing requirements are much less. Hope that helps, thanks for the comment! 🐾

Thank you for another great video! We usually brush our puppy every day or every other day with the pin brush and once or twice a week with the slicker brush.How often we can use the spray if we see groomer every 8 ish weeks?
@GinasGrooming9 ай бұрын
Hi Marinka, it sounds like you are doing an amazing job brushing your puppy! For the spray, although some sprays say you can use daily, I would keep it to once a week so that there is no buildup on the coat in the 8 weeks in between full baths. But if u have matting or a tangle, a spray always helps to brush through it. I hope that helps and congrats on your puppy! 🥰🐾

Great video! I'm a stroke survivor with a paralyzed arm. Do you think it is possible to brush a maltipoo using only one hand? Or should I look for another breed? Thank you xx
@GinasGrooming10 ай бұрын
Dear Caroline, nice to meet you! That's a big question because it really will depend on the disposition of your dog and the equipment you are working with, plus the expectations you have in terms of frequency of professional grooming visits and coat length. If you plan on keeping your pup in a 2-3cm puppy cut with regular visits to your groomer (say every 4-6 weeks), and you just need to do maintenance brushing on a docile pup, you should do great! If you have a tasmanian devil, lol, and you want to keep them in a long, fluffy look and you don't visit your groomer very often, you - and every person on the planet - would have a hard time. And having the right setup (grooming table, grooming arm and loop) helps immensely versus the "brush my dog while we sit on the couch together". If you are absolutely set on a Maltipoo or any other long-coated breed, a dedicated grooming area is something to consider setting up in a corner of your home by a wall to make sure you have a place to make brushing as easy as possible for you. For your second question of looking for another breed, I say follow your heart - but know that any breed will need basic grooming and care. Considering your special situation, a Maltipoo is a great choice, but you may need to budget more than planned for professional help (and you are not alone - these dogs just cost more to maintain, point blank.) I hope that helps answer your question; please keep me posted on what you decide! 😊

Wondering if this is your own dog, as she behaves as if she is yours? Lovely affectionate beautiful poodle.

Aw, thank you, Ava is indeed an amazing and sweet dog, but she is not mine (I have an older black Standard Poodle, Rosie, and a small Havanese mix that you'll see on the channel from time to time.) But thank you so much for noticing the love between groomer and dog. That's my main reason for going out on KZbin, trying to show (with video evidence, lol!) that grooming can really be an enjoyable and loving process. I appreciate your comment immensely! 🙏🥰

Do you have a recommendation for a fragrance free conditioning spray?
@GinasGrooming10 ай бұрын
Hi Josie! I am not a fan of perfumes (for me or the dogs!), so most of the sprays I use have a very delicate scent. I would say the most neutral spray I use is the Bio-Groom Indulge: amzn.to/49fBpyv. It has a bit of a zesty scent at first, but it does not sit on the pet, just refreshes the coat. Hope that helps!
@josieshepherd248310 ай бұрын
@GinasGrooming thank you I will have to try it. Yes my dog and I do not do good with perfumes or high scent items and have tried a bunch of different leave in conditioner sprays but they all are so strong and stay strong for days. Thank you for tour recommendation ❤️

You didn't use dryer high velocity
@GinasGrooming Жыл бұрын
Hi Roz! This video is demonstrating how to maintain a Poodle (and mix) coat with a brush and comb in between grooming visits. The brushing and combing that you see demonstrated is about 2 weeks after the Poodle's regular bath, blowout (with high velocity dryer), comb and fluff. But yes, of course, you must have a high-velocity dryer to dry a Poodle properly. But most Poodle owners need to brush and comb their dogs in between their baths and grooms to make sure there is no matting, and many owners do not know how to do that - so we made a video! Thanks for your comment! 😊

Doesn't a conditioner spray make a poodles coat flat?
@GinasGrooming3 ай бұрын
Hi there, I used to think the same thing when I started grooming! :) Sure, if you're using the wrong spray, you can flatten the coat or make it oily, etc. But if you use a good product while brushing, it will help protect the coat from breakage and nourish it in between full baths and conditioning treatments. Now some rules may change if you're talking about show Poodles, so I won't speak to exactly how those handlers get the hair to be so stiff right before going out in the ring, but for regular brushing of a pet Poodle, it is always recommended to use a good conditioning spray. Hope that helps and thanks so much for your comment! 😊🐾
