Yes, I suppose I should have added subtitles for that clip in the video. I was just using Courbet's painting as an example of realism. The painting on the right is painted by Sisley (The Lock of Saint-Mammès). I didn't mean to imply that Manet painted them.

Oh gosh, I didn't realize how that spot could communicate poorly. Yes, that is The Meeting by Courbet. I have the painting credits listed at the very end of episode three. The great English painter David Hockney, developed his own theory that many old masters (eg Caravaggio) used a prism or ‘camera obscura’ to aid their compositions. The boundary between the two dimensional egg tempera paintings of the Middle Ages and the more realistic depth of field used in the oil tradition is quite pronounced.
@superdave548116 жыл бұрын
I may be wrong, but I understood that Monet had cataracts which also led to the style of painting he chose.
@JillPoyerdFineArt6 жыл бұрын
You're correct that he had cataracts and was losing his sight. The poor man. Can you imagine..with his talent? That did influence his painting as his vision blurred and his ability to decipher colors deteriorated. He apparently painted for 60 years before suffering with that problem. Its influence on his work is still debated. He was diagnosed with it in 1912, had surgery in 1923 (after which his style didn't alter much), and then died in 1926 at 86. It seems you can tell when it starts to impact his work because the colors begin to muddy a bit. To me, I start to see his colors change around 1899, but he produced a TON of work prior to that. Here's a nice chronology of his work: www.monetpainting.net/painting_thumbnails.php?search_by=all Here's an article you may find interesting about his eyesight: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1551703/Cataracts-the-key-to-Monets-blurry-style.html
@superdave548116 жыл бұрын
Actually, I can imagine. I have the beginnings of cataracts. Driving at night can be a nightmare. Lights in department stores and grocery stores make my vision fuzzy or foggy. I have done some very fun things with various forms of art. I will continue to do so. Perhaps my stuff will make me famous...........when I am gone.
@JillPoyerdFineArt6 жыл бұрын
Oh, I'm so sorry, Dave. It must be frightening and disturbing for you. But yes, who knows what will happen to our work when we're gone. We can always hope! At least we know that we won't be forgotten for our art reflects each of us as individuals, I feel.
@superdave548116 жыл бұрын
Thank you. You are very nice. It is frightening and very disturbing. My father is going through the surgery to remove cataracts. So, I know it is perhaps either genetic or environmental. But is somewhat correctable these days. Thanks for being so nice and also thanks for these videos. Art is a huge aspect of my life and I have little else that makes me feel good, well, besides comforting commentary from you just now. Thanks again. You are awesome.

@@JillPoyerdFineArt Well I hope painting never goes out of style. I plan to paint soon - again. Never did it professionally, but I really love the painterly styles. I'm good at copying - like a photograph style, but I hate that. I want to develop a painterly type style, so it doesn't look like a photo!
@JillPoyerdFineArt3 жыл бұрын
@@winterdesert1 I don't think it will ever go out of style, personally. I think humans have a natural need to express themselves kinetically - with their hands and such. It's kind of in our nature. You know, copying is considered quite a skill, but I know what you mean. I find that there are some tricks to help you loosen up, depending on the medium. For example, I find that painting with a palette knife for parts of a painting helps me apply the paint more expressively. You will likely find your own tricks with time.

I'm interested in using this video and the first part for educational purposes. I work for the city government making art shows (with a very low budget ;), and we have currently one focused exactly on this topic. I would have to make Spanish subtitles. The videos would be played complete, no editing done. Is it ok to play it in a free public space? Should I add credits to the subtitles (or do something else)? Are you interested in the Spanish subs (and in what format)? Great video BTW :D
@JillPoyerdFineArt6 жыл бұрын
I would be delighted to have it used for that purpose, fede. How wonderful! Yes, I would like to be credited, but am not sure I understand what you mean by adding credits to the subtitles?
@frechjo6 жыл бұрын
Great, thank you! I mean adding some lines to the subs at the start like this: "Pinceladas, parte 2" "Siglo XIX" "Jill Poyerd" and some at the end like: "Realización de Jill Poyerd" "www.jillpoyerd.com" Since it would be playing in a loop along with other material, there's no proper place to have it credited out of the video (there are no printed programs or brochures). The videos themselves don't have any branding, that's why I ask.
@JillPoyerdFineArt6 жыл бұрын
Ohhh, I see. That would be wonderful, fede. Thank you! That's very considerate.
