In April 2018 I commissioned the Parker 15PSI atmospheric boiler for the distillery. I was allowed to tour the entire place with my co-worker. It was not open yet as they had just recently started the renovation. The restaurant was being worked on and there were people in the prison working on rust remediation and clean up. I got a different explanation of "D" block than what I have heard in other videos as inmates at times were left out there as punishment when it was cold. I returned in 2020 to PM the boiler and it was remarkable how it had all turned out. I retired in 2023 and moved back west before ever being assigned to go out there again. Nice video.

I think I saw an episode of MSNBC Lockup about this place. I remember the guard saying they had to be extra careful to check for hidden weapons above the doors and stuff because, being an old building, there were tons of little nooks and crannies in the walls to hide stuff. Was this the place that had all the cats walking around the yard and prisoners would adopt them?
@BestLifeAdventureChannel7 ай бұрын
Wow! Love the stories about this place! Hadn’t heard about cats there but a deer fell off one of the cliffs into the yard and became a pet/mascot for years. 👍😃

@@BestLifeAdventureChannel I'm actually not sure if it was this prison that had the cats. It might've been a different one. I saw it on an episode of MSNBC Lockup.

@@BestLifeAdventureChannel I just looked it up. There are a few clips from that episode on KZbin, but I'm not sure if the whole thing is posted and I'm not sure if all the clips about Kentucky are about Brushy Mountain, since they don't refer to it as that, in most of them.

Sounds like the cats might have been at a different prison.

i visited here with my wife 5 years ago toured it and it was nice the day we were there an inmate we met who spent time here, told us about some of the horrors behind these walls. we ate at the restaurant decent food reasonbly priced. a must see!!!

We love to hear about everyone's experiences, thank you for sharing that. We really would have liked to have been able to sit down with some of the former inmates and guards who now act as guides but we just didn't have the time we needed to really do that the right way. What do you think, should we do another video and include their stories? 😀👍

Thanks! So the prison was actually closed to the public but was open to those of us who were attending the Southeast Overland Camping Event. If you’re not familiar with that event, we did this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqGxdqeFeLWkh5Isi=ESJcPj9BfMg2TZ6k We paid a few bucks to do a self guided tour which was cool but we would have liked to have also taken a guided tour because those are done by former guards and prisoners who were there when it was open. We also found out that they do some overnight tours where they leave you there alone … they lock you in at dark and then let you out in the morning. How crazy would that be? Maybe we should get a group of crazy folks together and make one hell of an awesome video! 😂😃👍

I remember in late 90's early 2000's having to drive from Nashville every time federal ordered cameras crashed. Brushy is where IMs' learned to behave if other prisons were not able to teach them. Some of the teaching lessons caused need for cameras.
@JRJ08526 күн бұрын
Forgot to say. Cameras could record for 35 to 45 minutes after power lost. Over time I switched out tapes. Did have some examples of why Judges ordered the cameras. Both staff & IM's starting trouble. Staff always won

I’ve wondered about that. The only place you can look down on the building is from the hills. From there, the cross wouldn’t be upside down. Just a thought … 😃👍
