@dfjtobin Жыл бұрын
Yeah true, but I think the weapon strikes must be effective in hurting and distracting, their heads are being rocked back by the blows, knocking the opponent down to the ground before the kill would have been used a lot back in the day with full armour, the difference is they would have been jamming a dagger through the gaps of the armour to kill.

@@banan1788 Nah, it's how it is if you intentionally ban any weapon that can deal with armoured opponents. They have to do that for safety reasons but it does make the sport(?) kind of boring.
@MrDerpy-ns6sy6 ай бұрын
@DouchebagDex I think its fun, it doesn't take away from. Entertainment value, as long as there is fanfare and the knights play to make a good show out of it and not just going hog wild. it makes for a crazy Renaissance show. Say you just bought some mutton and a large mug of ale or mead lol. This is the closest you'll get to the highest form of medieval combat. It was often slow and drawn out if both opponents respected each other. Exhaustion from lack of oxygen is also a reason why. Now less armored combat is much of the opposite although it's still skill that matters.

The weapons are not sharp there’s rules on the thickness allowed. There are definitely mild injuries. I'm of the opposite opinion. I feel like larger lists offer more dynamic fights in the field and away from the list, where formations and team tactics are more important and getting outflanked and having an enemy in the backfield is a major threat. I understand where you are coming from though, sometimes lists do get ridiculously large and it turns into a match where everyone is walking from point a to point b and back again just to make it to a fight. Probably a good middleground for list sizes that allow for both realities.

Because this is a sport and not a duel to the death. I typically fight with a mace and buckler but there’s constraints on the weight of a mace. Plate armor is very good against blades but maces were originally designed to shatter the bones beneath it…at the same time you don’t want to maim or cripple your opponents in this sport.

How the heck does someone even get involved in this? I’ve gone 36 years without knowing this type of combat exists until now.. I’m so curious about this.. who wakes up one day and decides they want to full contact fight with medieval armor and weaponry? Who would you practice with? How would you meet enough people involved to host an event like this? It reminds me of bobsledding in the sense that it seems like an impossible hobby to enter into.. but it’s definitely awesome and im very curious about how protective the gear is and how sturdy/heavy duty the weapons are.. I mean, knights actually died fighting like this so there has to be some type of regulations (obviously).. but what are they?

It’s called a “Samson” which is a modified version of the “Frogmouth” a helmet that was predominantly used for jousting. The eye slit was angled to prevent the knight from getting splinters from his lance in his eyes. The Samson is less angled to allow the wearer to see more directly in front of them.
