However, brutalism is also about form follows function. So just “do whatever you want” is not the right advice here.

SkylineFFM for some reason, most “brutalist” websites nowadays are very very dysfunctional. It pushes the idea of “do whatever you want” instead of form follows function

ironically, brutalist architecture (where i assume you get "form follows function" from) can be horrendously dysfunctional. For example, exposed concrete makes terrible wall insulation.

love your phrase "a cozy atmosphere of chaos"- I like the ethos of brutalism- which is to defy convention. It's hard to believe that the varieties in brutalist designs in web platforms were inspired from bland uninspiring brutalist architecture.

I don't see the connection of brutalism from the 60s to this called "brutalism" feels off from vee point and from definition point. Thr mess, the use of colors, feels more like a late 80s asthenic. If you design a post Soviet looking style you probably will fall more into the simplicity of brutalism that triggers deep emotions. Thats how brutalism works.

I don't think brutalist architecture is uninspiring. Though I understand there are two perspectives. I believe that art is art when it hits your physical sense, so one perspective is: how can I (ME) possibly bring something forth from this" and the other one is "how can i POSSIBLY bring something forth from this". Different, yet not.

brutalism is about simplicity and minimalism so should be the web design
@templatemonster4 жыл бұрын
Of course, but in case with brutalism the simplicity is taken to the next level and it's more of an overkill :) That's what we kept in mind while making this video.

I don't get why we shit on other people who enjoy and appreciate Brutalist designs. As a learning creative, I get easily tired of working on structured, formal works. Having that freedom of breaking the rules and conventions in design is much needed to spur creative inspiration again.

Aww yes ! I’ve been wondering what this style was called searching experimental web tutorials never worked

My grunge teenager inside loves this trend and my current self can see the value in this trend for the future. I also think the fact that many designers actively hate this trend says that it will probably be around or resurface again since "fuck your status quo" types of art thrives on criticism and only goes away when it is over saturated. I have ADHD and even if I love minimalist designs they just do not catch my attention that well and I bet I would survive reading a textbook in school if it was created in this way (but thats just me.) Maybe its not a good trend for practical use in graphic design but I still love to look at it and it has left an impression on me and I will be studying it while going forward with my design degree

i mean , all of us has a different taste when it comes to brutalism design . . . some of us might like some designs , some of us might not so just pick what you like the most : ) because brutalism design has a wider range . i think this trend works especially that in these modern times we aim for expressionism and experimental design , finding the beauty in the chaos , right now we only need to prioritize functionality over form . just my thoughts .

Brutalism is where graphic design has gone to die... in a stinking pool of its own visual vomit. To those promoting this style as a 'design trend' - thanks a lot for turning this industry into an absolute sick joke with this pointless, ignorant garbage. It apparently 'looks like shit on purpose' and is also referred to as 'antidesign'? What, so people just have to be 'anti' everything these days just so they can feel edgy and important or some childish nonsense... or is it that they have to make design look like an absolute clusterfuck because everyone else is doing it and it's so easy and lazy to fire up an app and have it randomly projectile-vomit these god-awful stretched fonts that repeat endlessly down the page, colour palettes that look inspired by the mind of a psychopath, the endless drivel of nonsensical dreck splashed carelessly all over the place, and fucking horrifyingly random and pointless graphics like starbursts, squiggles and outlined boxes with polka dots that are just shat out and onto the design without any reason, rationale or purpose... all coming together to form the most hideous shit-show of unbridled chaotic ugliness, all the while reeking of an utter sense of pointlessness and stupidity that is without purpose, usefulness or meaning. The world has gone mad and it feels as though people are trying to destroy everything just because they can, without any regard for the consequence to others. Designers are losing everything they've worked their entire lives for aready, thanks to these greedy tech giants who are actively and deliberately cannibalising their own market of creatives, by aggressively marketing their AI tech, designed to steal work away from real designers... you know, because the billions they already make in profit is not enough it seems. This Brutalist nonsense just hurts an already-embattled design industry and makes an absolute mockery of those many real designers who've worked incredibly hard and dedicated their entire careers to good design - which should serve a strategic purpose and reach its intended audience through meaningful, relevant and attractive visual storytelling - not by haphazardly throwing a bunch of irrelevant rubbish onto a page because someone thought it 'looked cool'. 'Nuff said.
