Chanel No.5 as an all day everyday, followed by Chanel No.19 for evenings, social occasions. The second compliments the first. A tried and trusted route followed by the wealthiest of ladies above their late 20's.

Sean Connery sweated a lot and , from those that would know, he apparently had a naturally highly acidic vinegary smell to him. Hence his choice of sharp, intense scents to cover it up. One famous girlfriend of his said he ''smelled like a pig''. True story.

@@Michaeladechatillon @Maison de Châtillon Unfortunately the Sean Connery bit is true, my father was heavily into the film industry way back from the late 1940's onwards , he got to meet an awful lot of actors that later became international stars. Burton, Connery, Sellers, all the Bonds, Taylor, Loren , Bardot, pretty much all the European ladies that broke into the english speaking acting scene; he was also a terrible scallywag ; he knew pretty much everyone that passed through the London film studios on their way to crossing the Atlantic before acquiring fame and fortune. Constant parties at his London residence was the norm, the stories I've been told, some I later heard myself , would shatter the illusions the masses have over the so called social elite. The old money, that is another matter altogether. As for many famous male names, you would be amazed how many were initially the Brut, Old Spice and Hai Karate brigade on a very frequent basis. Marketing and advertising presents one image, reality is a very different one.

Right now it's Cuir Beluga by Guerlain. It smells like vanilla and an expensive leather purse. That sounds weird, but it's a very soft and elegant scent. I also love Guerlain's Angelique Noir. It's a fresh green vanilla. Guerlain does vanilla so well.

Scent manufacturers' secret, the bottles cost them more than the contents, then there is the marketing, advertising and promotion costs of course.Some of Europe's richest families are, or are heavily invested in, scent manufacturers for a very good reason. ''Selling Chanel and rosewater has proven a highly profitable venture.'' Winston Churchill.

You cannot judge high quality scents, perfumes or colognes just by sniffing them out of the bottle. The best ones actually respond to the wearers own body chemistry and any chemicals their skin has been exposed to or is expressing. Scented shower gels and soaps change how any scent smells just as an example. Chanel no.5 is a top favourite of the very wealthiest women if they like it after a few hours of being worn.The best scents last many hours, most modern ones don't.

@@Michaeladechatillon My point being, it suits some people, not others, my mother always wore it, as a young child I couldn't stand the smell of it initially , an hour or so later, it was a totally different scent.

I hear your point. But, what are you supposed to do - buy a bottle of scent that you don’t particularly like in hopes that it changes as you wear it? Sounds like an expensive and very long game of trial & error.
@kingsnurglegurglesonthevik4517
@kingsnurglegurglesonthevik4517 Жыл бұрын
@@daniell2217 This is mainly relative to the more expensive scents that contain higher levels of very pure natural ingredients. Best thing to do if you are in that market is visit an actual Perfumery shop and have good ''sniffing'' session, and ask for a small sample, even ones that are in a foil sachet will do. Try just one or two that you prefer, then wander around the area browsing or window shopping, or whatever. After an hour or two most scents will have stabilised to your own skin chemistry. Chanel no.5 is rather unique in this way as it just happens to be a one that seams to change the most according to who the wearer is.
@daniell2217

I defer to you. Seems a reasonable method. I don’t wear scent b/c I’ve never found one that doesn’t eventually give me a headache. But for those who are in to it, your approach sounds the most likely for a successful outcome.
