Brutally Honest Review: BMW M2 Competition

So today we have another review, and this one is something quite interesting, we have a BMW M2 Competition, now this is interesting as I used to hate German cars, until I drove the E46 M3 and then the E92 M3.. now times have change since then and cars have become way less characteristic now; so lets put that to the test.. does the new BMW M2 have any character?

The M1 and M2 are memory buttons Lee and can be configured to how you want them that’s why when you turned traction off it chucked you out of the Memory mode because you manually altered things

You can enter manual mode in any of the MDM, Sport and Sport+ mode by pulling the gear selector to the right twice. First will put you in D1, second will put you in 1. Another great review man

I’ve had fast cars for most of my life & my current M2C scares the shite out of me. It makes you work for your fun & is very very twitchy, I’ve lost it already

Would you say the suspension setup is what is causing the twitchy nature? Seeing that dimensions is similar to the e46

The power loss from top end is where BMW has restricted the S55 in the M2 over the one in the M3/M4. It basically loses 40bhp from 5500 rpm. A remap sorts this out.

The m1 and m2 modes are just preset options, you can customise them as you want, they are really just for handiness. The fact it says “m1” or “m2” doesn’t make a difference

The M2 Competition doesn’t have different suspension or brakes as standard. However there is an option for a bigger brake kit (2NH). It basically is a facelift, minus the engine as it is just wheels, front bumper/grille, seats and carbon strut brace.

How did you get on with the lack of steering feel? I have an M4 Comp at the moment but the EPAS is a disappointment, plus the sound of the engine is disappointing.

@@itsleelockwood It's the biggest let down for me in an otherwise very good and capable car. There is no joy going beyond 4k rpm really as the engine just gets louder, rather than more sonorous. Shame.

You would have had to reconfigure Johns M2 setting in the idrive to have traction turned off in M2. Need Mr “i don’t associate German cars with performance cars” (Jesse) to sit in one lol

@@tracktimevideos5164 as ive said before gearbox is irrelevant. The 140 you have to have a decent driving skill as it will catch you out especially with an open diff. But obviously your in a focus so wont manage to drive far without the engine popping 😉😉🤣🤣

You should be able to customise sport + either chassis and drive train or just chassis or just drive train. I assume it’s the same as the m135i. I personally don’t like the heavy steering so I just have drive train ticked under sport +

If that took you by surprise - then you should try it with a simple stage 1 tune packing an extra 100 HP and 130 Nm!!! I've had mine for two and half years now and I can honestly tell you it's like driving a go-kart with air conditioning! Apart from the lack of suspension adjustability and a ridiculous looking rear muffler, the only other gripe that normally gets overlooked is the car's relatively small fuel tank (52 litres). Despite any of its shortcomings, I must conclude by saying that it makes for an awesome weekender and one hell of a track car.
