Neighbor helping neighbor is a BIG common theme here in Fairbanks. I live in Fairbanks and I know. Potential Olympic athletes come to Fairbanks for Cross Country Ski Training. THAT says a lot.

Absolutely @mattstosh6960, Fairbanks has such a strong sense of community neighbors always look out for each other! And you’re right about the cross-country skiing; it’s amazing how Fairbanks attracts top athletes for training. Thanks for sharing that insight!

Hi @robpeters2296! Haha, fair point. Alaska definitely isn't for the faint of heart when it comes to cold! The weather is part of its charm, though, right? Thanks for the laugh! 😄

Been in Fairbanks almost a year. Moved from Anchorage. I'd give it a 4 out of 5. I wanted something more rural and conservative, and i like it much better than Anchorage. I wanted to do all the traditional Alaskan activities, and its great for mushing, hunting, trapping and fishing. However, temperatures are brutal in the winter. Fires/ smoke in the summer were awful. Almost an entire month of avoiding the outdoors due to thick smoke.

Sounds like you've found a good balance of rural living and outdoor activities in Fairbanks! I hear you on the challenges of the winter and summer smoke.

My take is.... Fairbanks is a big enough city to give you what you need in a city life. All people we have met are helpful and polite. This is a straight, conservative, hunting, fishing, outdoorsman Paradise. Housing is a challenge, be flexible. I'm staying. Lower 48 has changed to much over the last 10-15 years. I felt like an outsider in my own state. Were staying until death parts us. 🫎🦣🤠
