In fact Kohli and Shastri have a record in changing the test team for every test for some 20+ odd tests if I am not wrong? On the other hand, Rohit gets back Kuldeep who was sidelined and look what he has done since.... His coach has been vocal about him not getting the support when Kohli and Shastri were in charge.... The thing that Ganguly and Dhoni did of backing their players through the lean patch, it was missing in this partnership

Loved Ravi Shastri energy as a commentator (although never considered him as astute as Sunny or Harsha) but his stint as coach always left a sour test in my mouth with the whole Kumble resignation and Shastri coming back in the team through the backdoor.... that was one ugly episode Even when he was coach, he was openly promoting Kohli as test captain even when Dhoni was the captain and within days, Dhoni resigned from test cricket in the middle of the series which was very unusual.... Shastri as coach never came across as someone who could tell the captain if he's wrong, he came across more as a Kohli fanboy always... He talks about Gabba but after that historic win, he gave an interview about how Kohli planned the whole thing after losing the first test which was quite ridiculous (given how many players got injured and how we eventually won) and outright disrespectful for Rahane who was brilliant as a captain. One main thing I felt the Shastri era lacked was creating the leaders for tomorrow... So when the Kohli-BCCI spat occurred, we had no one who could be a leader long term and had to bank on Rohit who doesn't have a lot of years left himself. For me he was hyped more than what he actually did.

Now I feel that he was far better coach than this David besides one of the greatest commentators. Lean Manjrekar, Murli Karthik and even this Bhogle.. first two are just not even ordinary commentators.. third one has good knowledge but it feels like he sings a song while giving commentary. Learn from Ravi, Gavaskar, Isha Guha, Ian Bishop how to really get listeners in to your magic
