With post-rock construction, black metal dynamics, hardcore energy, prog and math-rock flourishes and pure pop melodies all detectable on their debut album Burst, Brutus manage to straddle the significant divide between Slayer and Savages, The Smiths and Slowdive, Dillinger Escape Plan and Deus - and all with just three members expertly colluding to make a sound as monolithic as it is emotive.
The searing, soaring guitars of shoegaze are amped up to hardcore punk speed, drums gallop like wild horses over open larval planes and drumming singer Stefanie Mannaerts offers some of the most impassioned vocals heard in recent times, capable of shifting from deceptively melodic to out-right larynx-punishing in the blink of an eye.
In 2014 and 2015 they played mostly all over Belgium. Pukkelpop, Rock Herk, Dour Festival, Boomtown, AB Club, Botanique, Depot, Stuk, Trix, ... and more than 100 intense small shows.
In April 2016 Brutus decamped to Vancouver (Can) to record their debut-album Burst with Jesse Gander (White Lung, Japandroids, …). It was a wise move. As soon as the first blast beat came I knew I found something incredible. What an amazing mixture of sounds. Wholly unique and one of the best things I've heard all year. Also the vocals are great, internet fight me about it.

Also these songs have like three lines of lyrics. That would usually be a huge turn off because it isn’t “deep” enough for me. I’m hearing more emotion and depth on three lines than I do with entire albums some bands release

"All along" daarstraks voor het eerst in "de Zwaarste Lijst" gehoord , viel me positief op , vooral straf om nu al in de lijst op te duiken ... In vogelvlucht alle nummers eens beluisterd , heb een sterk vermoeden dat ik dit wel eens zal aanschaffen hoewel heel wat nummers nogal op elkaar lijken (op 't eerste gehoor) ; misschien is het nodig om eens doorgedreven te luisteren!?! Alleszins een erg mooie nieuwkomer, als ze op GMM komen, hoop ik ze te kunnen zien...

This is pretty impressive. If you like punk with a twist (in this case post/blackgaze), this is definitely for you. Vocals are very punk (raw, hoarse, unrestrained) but musicianship is much more intricate. Basically they're kind of like Torche: their main genre is punk but they throw a great many curveballs into the fray and it works brilliantly for the most part. Anyways this album is getting rave reviews, so totally worth a listen start to finish. I must admit though the drumming is pretty spectacular.

wow wat een muzikanten,dit is muzikaal héél erg goed...zelfs prog-elementen worden niet geschuwd...deze gasten kunnen spelen...het spijtige van de zaak is de zangeres...sorry,maar die hoort hier echt niet bij...vreemd als je zo'n goede muzikanten bent en totaal niet hoort dat er een andere zangstem bijhoort...toch wel een heel dubbel gevoel bij deze release...een zanger of zangeres(met meer ballen) zou heel wat verbetering brengen in de toekomst wow such musicians here,this is very very good...you even hear prog-elements in it...these guys can play...sadly enough there is this singer...sorry,bit she don't belong in this band...weird that you know that such musicians don't even hear that this singer don't belong with their band...i've got a mixed feeling with this release...a better singer of female singer(with more balls) would make such a progress in their next releases...
