Depends on the state. What people dont seem to realize is that interracial marriage was legal in some states even in the 1950s. It was not until the Lovings that it became legal in all 50 states. That’s why that law was a big deal. You didn’t have to leave your home state to get married. The Lovings were legally married already, but they had to go to another state to do so. That’s what they were upset about. Their marriage was not legal in their home state and where their families lived. They couldn’t live in their home state as a married couple. That’s what they fought for.
