Even though he’s a bit quirky, I’ve always loved Bryan’s insights and observation, as well as his willingness to challenge the status quo. I think it’s great George Mason has people like him

Live Questions: 1:22:28 Bryan, what can you say about illegal boarding houses-large houses that have been subdivided into single-room rentals? 1:23:51 Is there a theme in the 4 paintings behind you? 1:26:01 I agree about nature vs. nurture, but I'm skeptical about "genetics" as the driver. All genetics do is code for proteins. Surely there's a better theory to come down the line about where inherent personality traits come from. 1:37:28 That there's a cohort of leftists admitting that looser regulation = more supply and helps the poor is amazing. They know it's true of everything, ya? 1:41:17 What is the reason for the dramatic increase in home prices across America? increased cost of home building materials, foreclosure moratoriums, homeowner assistance fund, stopped production in 2020? 1:46:07 Tips for burned-out parents of 2 year old toddler to regain focus/motivation? Thoughts on Musk, NYC,remote work,Bitcoin,AI,AR/VR,Biden/Trump,inflation 1:55:32 If you could plan a family of all boys, all girls or an even split, what would you choose? Superchat is locked for me now, will donate later! 1:57:49 if housing became so abundant, and most houses fall below their mortgage, what would keep homeowners from walking away from their mortgages? 2:02:48 How does a developer buy an old big house, knock it down, then build three smaller houses in its place? Also, how do new houses come on a new street? 2:03:07 For Bryan: Do you or the Center have any events or speeches you reccomend or plan to speak at on 2024 or 25? Will you be coming to OCON 2024? :-) 2:04:19 RIP Jim Simmons. Renaissance’s success in using algorithms to predict price movements seems to disprove A Random Walk Down Wall St., efficient market theories, etc. Thoughts? 2:09:42 Outro

A Pragmatist chaos of controls and freedom is used by control advocates to claim that controls cause the good things that freedom really caused. But ideologically total controls are easily known as destructive. Theres no freedom to blame.

Over-regulation is only one part of the problem of a shortage of affordable housing. We also have a problem with the function of our land markets, which are deeply affected by long-term hoarding and speculative acquisition without any intent on development. A systemic solution to the "housing problem" requires that we solve the "land problem." What is the solution, that? Housing units should be exempted from annual taxation. After all, housing is expensive to own. There is ongoing maintenance required; and, every decade or so, there are huge expenditures required to replace worn out systems. Economic theory (and many economists) argues for the imposition of an annual "land-value tax" equal to the potential annual rental value of the location held. Public capture of this rental value will bring down the selling (i.e., asking) price for land to a very low level, justly so, inasmuch as the rental value of land is directly related to the quality of public goods and services brought to the location. Recommended readings on the issues are provided in the writings of economists Nicolaus Tideman, Mason Gaffney, Fred Foldvary and Harry Gunnison Brown.

Can you predict, with measurement, what mans free will mind would have created without govt economic controls?
@johngleue4 ай бұрын
Bryan said he never made a choice to be heterosexual and this non-choice helps in his thinking that instincts in humans are real. Those sexual proclivities are value judgments made on a subconscious level long before we have the proper context to understand or control the outcome. When we're so young that our value judgments can't possibly be made explicit to us, it doesn't mean that these value judgments aren't happening. This is why trauma at a young age can shape a child's entire outlook on the world. When these children eventually grow up and maybe go and see a psychologist to better understand and reshape their faulty premises, what the psychologist will do is have the patient recollect the event while putting the entire event into a fuller context. A context they originally didn't have when they were children. Children don't know stuff and can easily draw wrong conclusions at young ages. This is not me saying being straight or gay is wrong, either. I'm merely saying that those choices exist, they're just on an subconscious level so they appear fated. This is just what I've gathered on my own, btw, I'm not trained or anything in any of this stuff.

Caplans attack on advocating free speech merely as a slogan, rather than as a generalization from concretes is basically Peikoffs claim, in_Understanding Objectivism_, that rationalism is holding ideas as mystical ideals with abstraction from concretes.

Ooops! "...withOUT abstractions from concretes."

Yeah, it's like free speech is some intrinsic good that can never be reduced to the perceptual level. It's just out there to be interpreted by the founding fathers that the right treats as mystical philosopher kings who could commune with God.
