I could not tell you why this left such a strong impact on me as a 13 year old; something about a really simple guitar melody combined with simple lyrics about *complex* things. I still get this song stuck in my head and come back every once and a while as a 20 year old to listen. Thank you for this.

I know that feeling. I love writing songs and stories and things like that, and when I've finished it it's something I like to share. It's like someone telling you what to do with your own creation, isn't it? You can decide how you want it and improve it yourself over time; you don't need someone telling you how to make your own creation, I suppose.

As a songwriter, I can't help but be amused at all the speculation and projection in the comments. When you make art, people always define it based on their perceptions of what is going on with you or what they think it means based on their own experiences. This song captures beautifully the experience of a very independent person who is suddenly defining herself as part of a couple as well. Very thoughtful lyrics!
