Bryce Canyon is one of the most unique landscapes in the world. One of the great things about it is that you can configure many different hiking routes throughout the park, and the Figure 8 Loop might just be one of the best configurations to experience.

In this episode, we explore scenic Bryce Canyon for the very first time. We opted to hike something known as the Figure 8 Combination Loop, which chains together the Queens Garden Loop, Navajo Loop, and the Peekaboo Loop trails, resulting in a 6.4-mile hike through some of Bryce Canyon's most iconic terrain.
We found that this particular hiking configuration resulted in an experience that allowed us to sample the best that Bryce has to offer, letting us get up close and personal with the famous rock formations, known as hoodoos, as well as other interesting features inside of the canyon.
The hike was not very strenuous and only took a few hours, meaning that there was plenty of time left to do other things in the park, such as tour some of the best overlooks such as Sunrise, Sunset, and Bryce points, and to casually stroll up on the rim for some amazing views and photographic opportunities.
The hike was not very strenuous (in our opinion), as the canyon is not very deep (compared to others we've hiked like the Grand Canyon or some trails in nearby Zion National Park). The trail is also one of the smoothest and best-maintained trails out of any national park we've been to in recent times.
Some of the highlights from this hike were the Peekaboo loop, which was less crowded than Queens Garden, and the Wall Street portion of the Navajo Loop. Not only does Peekaboo seem to provide better seclusion, we feel that the hoodoos and vistas on the Peekaboo loop rival those of Queens Garden, the park's most popular trail, giving the hiker the best of both worlds... amazing views as well as peace and serenity!
One feature we enjoyed about the 65 miles of hiking trails at Bryce Canyon is that the various hikes are highly configurable and can be done in many different ways, at many different lengths, giving people of all ages and fitness levels the opportunity to experience Bryce Canyon up close and personal.
We thought that the paved sections of the rim trail that we experienced were among the most accessible, immaculate paths we've ever walked at any National Park.
Bryce Canyon is one of the most unique landscapes we've ever seen. It is other-worldly, and we sincerely hope that you have the opportunity to experience this marvelous place at least once in your life!

FAQ: Q: How long did the hike take you? A: Glenn started at 9a and finished at 2:30pm. Keep in mind though that filming, changing batteries, etc can eat up some extra time. A pamphlet said it should take about 4-5 hours on average.

Bryce is at the top of my list as far as Utah goes. Great place to start the tour. Looking at maybe next April. Utah was great the time I went to Canyonlands in April. This time, I will be heading north from Arizona. Just beautiful and so amazing, those hoodoos.

You do an excellent job of documenting your hikes. We hiked Bryce last year in June and coming back in October. I know exactly how you felt among the hoodoos, they are truly magical.

Yeah, we think the ambient music works well too. KZbin offers a ton of free to use, copyright free music which is where we get it. Bryce was the most unique landscape I’ve ever seen. Very neat place!

So glad I found this video! (And several others of yours as well. So so helpful!) We just returned from Bryce and took your recommendation from this video and did the Figure 8 combo loop. One my favorite hikes of our Utah trip! I too was just mesmerized by Bryce. And my son let out a few "wa-hoo's" based on your suggestion too. :)

The almost world famous Cactus Atlas team does it again - awesome video Glenn and Amy! Our National Parks are such treasures, we must preserve them for all to enjoy with awe for years to come. Couldn’t agree with you more on the two types of people. I’m with you on what type I am. I mean look at the beautiful birds you caught a glimpse of, I don’t think the chatty Kathy’s caught a glimpse. But alas, to each their own and I’m beginning to ramble. Again great video, thanks for letting us tag along. Oh! Would you mind sharing the brand of your sunglasses, thinking they might be a good fit for the hubby. Thanks.

My first job was at the lodge at Bryce Canyon way back when. We used to run around those trails at night like it was no big deal (fall off the edge? NAH - not me). We would schedule tours to walk tourists in at night and at one point we would sit them down and tell spooky stories and walk back out. We constantly had tourists who would ask us if we painted the rocks red. We'd tell them it was part of our job to paint them at night when the tourists wouldn't see us. After their reactions, we'd set them straight and tell them the red was natural.
@CactusAtlas
@CactusAtlas 3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha!! That's awesome! I can't believe that many people would think (or even believe) that the rocks were painted red. Would be awesome to wander around at night. I bet that was incredible!

Thank you for filming this! It's wonderful! I'm considering a trip out to Bryce Canyon soon but was a little concerned about heights/exposure, esp bc I suffer from vertigo - are there any areas that felt a little dangerous to you? Thanks again and keep exploring! :)
@CactusAtlas
@CactusAtlas 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Can't say there's really any areas that felt dangerous at all. Wall Street would be the only section that climbs a lot and COULD give a sense of vertigo but there's so many switchbacks and going up it versus down really eliminates a lot of that I think. Have a great time if you choose to go. Definitely worth a stop to explore. It's amazing at Bryce.

Thank you for this super helpful video!! Do you have advice on best place to park to do this loop?? We are going next week and trying to figure out the park/shuttle details. any Advice is welcome!
@CactusAtlas
@CactusAtlas 3 жыл бұрын
Oh gosh. Unfortunately when Glenn went the parking situation was pretty insane and lots of cars were waiting for spots to open up blocking traffic so not sure we can be much help there. Unless things have changed our advice would be to not count on parking in the park. He ended up camping at a nearby campground (Ruby's Inn) during that trip which has a shuttle stop right outside and took the shuttle into the park.

Curious now that you've done the trail going UP Wallstreet...Would you still opt to travel up or would it be an easier journey going down? We are going in Sept and are in our 50's. Would prefer to know the easier route. Thanks!
@CactusAtlas
@CactusAtlas 2 жыл бұрын
If I were to go back, I think I would do the walk down. I don’t see how you could go wrong. You will still be doing some uphill walking, but not as extreme as the trip through Wallstreet.
