To be fair Il-Nam didn't do anything to create distrust. He simply wanted to experience the game as he was basically near the end of his life anyway. There was no agenda to sabotage or be biased against any player. I don't think it is farfetched to assume Gi-Hun didn't consider a sabotage plant. Knowing they have pride for the integrity of the game. We can even go back to episode 1. The recruiter could have easily shot Gi-Hun, but he honored the game they played.

As others were saying. 001 was the founder, the one who created the game and then wanted to relive it. Gi hun has no reason to believe that there is another fake participant. In the end, I also think 001 is just a nod to the viewers, just like Gi hun received the same number again.

"Keep your friends close, your enemies closer." The Frontman did not join the games until after red light, green light. He wanted to infiltrate and be-friend Gi-hun to let him down at the right moment. When he learned of the idea to take the guards guns, he allowed it and joined in and waited for the moment to betray. The organization that runs Squid Game has a big John Wick feel. They control far more than people think. Don't be surprised that the top police chief is in on it, just like the boat captain.

Korean American who’s fluent in Korean here 👋 I know in the subtitles, you see the word “captain” used in those 2 scenes but they actually mean 2 different things. In the first scene w the front man sub, the word “dae jang” is used. Which translates to the word “boss”. In the second scene, the word “sun sang neem” is used to address the fisherman, which is a commonly used term to address older individuals in a respectful manner. Direct translation is actually “teacher”. “Sun sang neem” doesn’t necessarily imply that the person is powerful or the boss. It’s like saying “bro” but in a respectful manner usually towards someone older than you

YES! You've said it perfectly. One thing that bothers me when people discuss the show... there are many reasons why homeless people end up homeless. The same goes for the participants in the games. Their stories are very layered, as we've seen in both season 1 and season 2. Even if they end up in these situations because of gambling or addiction, the truth is, these issues come from somewhere. Oftentimes, what prevents us from becoming an addict or alone is luck and privilege: support of family, friends, and community. Access to resources is denied to some people. It's a systemic issue that is hard to eradicate. In the show, at first glance, the situation of the homeless and the Squid Game players looks like greed. And in some cases, it is simply that, sure. However, I think that the context is everything. It’s impossible to ignore how much circumstances shape these decisions. After all, what does a piece of bread mean to a homeless person? They have some access to food, they're capable of surviving. But it’s not life-changing, it won’t significantly improve their circumstances the way winning the lottery might. Choosing the lottery is a gamble, sure - but don’t we all take risks, hoping for something better? The difference is that most of us aren’t judged for wanting to change our lives or trying our luck. No presupposed bias would have people question our desires if we're in a certain position of 'power'. The same pattern plays out with the players. And they even say it out loud: what good are small amounts of money when their lives are still unbearable, still on the brink of collapse? Their lives are over. If the result is the same, why not take another chance and play? This is the core of the issue between In-ho's and Gi-hun's argument. In a way, they are both right. The difference is, that Gi-hun sees this inequality and wishes to do something about it. Except, as the Frontman says, if he wishes to see change, he would first have to save the world, to deal with this systemic issue at its core - something that In-ho sees as a fool's errand. (Also, Lee Byung Hun said that while the Frontman wanted to destroy Gi-hun's belief in humanity, he was somewhat, unknowingly perhaps, also curious to see if Gi-hun would challenge his views in turn. Maybe this small part of him still lives on... I'm gonna cross my fingers for some internal conflict in Season 3, amplified by Jun-ho hopefully entering the picture.) I know I basically said what you said in this video, but I've had this written for some time and felt like venting a little bit. Love your sense of humour!

Here's another one: the capitalism themes from season 1 got bigger in season 2 by introducing 2 party politics. You got one side that believe in profiting from the system at other's expense and the other socialist faction that wants everyone to win, but no one wins if everyone wins and they stay poor. The ones in power even provided weapons for the two factions to fight each other, similar to how they had bricks laying around at political protests. They even had the socialists have their little revolution against the ruling class.

One theory of mine: the front man end up having the same conversation with the old creator of the game, where he wants him to bet if someone is going to help the dying begger, but in that case no one did, proving the statement that people are trash. This moment changes him, but with the same bet Gi-hun sees the help coming, aka keeps his belief in the good of humanity.

@GameJam2303 күн бұрын
The interesting thing is, Gi-hun actually proves the salesman’s point by continuing to play his game. He really did just get lucky in a system that was statistically not in his favour. By playing by the rules, he proved that he is still one of the lower class, the trash, the people who are merely pawns in someone else’s much greater game. He could have broken the rules, taken the gun and used it against the game instead, but he still chose to play by the rules instead. He’s still in the game. This is immediately turned on its head when they conduct the plan to fight back against the games though, as he has now been led down a path that the Frontman created. He stopped seeing the other players as people, and now they’re merely trash to be discarded in the name of a bigger plan. Now, when met with the face of a 50/50 chance, he doesn’t play the game by their rules anymore. He takes the gun and uses it against the game itself. The only problem is, the Frontman is still playing games with Gi-hun. Despite that, I think it’s important to note that the way these games work is essentially a test to see who will remain trapped in the games, and who will try to exceed the limitations of them. The Frontman was a previous victor, after all, and so he likely developed a similar mindset as Gi-hun. He’s was likely promoted to the position he’s at now BECAUSE he became willing to stop playing the game, and those who aren’t playing the game must be above it. That’s the way our society works. So, when Gi-hun simply won the games the first time, he never really left them. Ultimately I think this will lead up to the reveal that it was always planned for Gi-hun to become something like the next Frontman- to reach above the strings that puppet him and shake the hand of the puppeteer, and become a real boy himself. The question is, do we think Squid Game will have a happy ending, or will it merely be a continuance of the cycle? Is Gi-hun the legendary hero who saves the day in this story, or is he more like Winston from 1984? A cog in a system who plays his role perfectly as intended and was never destined to defeat the enemy. Personally, I think this story might be approaching the latter option. Gi-hun might have humanity to him, but so does the Frontman. Because that position isn’t about whether or not you have humanity- it’s about your willingness to put yourself above the games at the expense of those still stuck playing it. In the end, maybe Gi-hun kills the Frontman and then replaces him, and one day someone else comes along to do just the same, and then another. Why? Because you’re always still in the games. The VIPs are betting on you just the same as you bet on the horses. There are no winners in this game, just future losers.

Another hint that No 11 was around during Gi-hun's first game: She and Gi-hun kind of bumped into each other by the stairs of the Broker's office. I do think that In-ho had genuine moments in the game, as he got swept in things. Il-nam said that you don't have as much fun watching as playing and I think In-ho experienced that, particularly during the six legged game. The cheers were genuine. I think as well his failed attempts at the top are real. He put himself above all the new players as a returning winner and it wasn't as easy as he may have lead himself to believe. He thought he was better than them, suddenly he struggles. He broke character and had a genuine outburst. He was literally ABOVE them, watching as an overlord. Now he comes down to earth and becomes human again, like them. It would be humbling

Poor people want to fight to be rich, rich people want to pay to watch for entertainment, guards want to be guards for the pay and for power fantasy. The participants in season 1 even voted to end their game and ended up willingly going right back to the games. The front man joined the games to help Gi-Hun see why they exist. Meanwhile Gi-Hun thinks he's fighting the people who run the games but he's really fighting the instincts of humanity as a whole. Reminds me of football. Before, when Il-nam was in power, all the money was sent to the families of the deceased players. And yeah food is not going to magically solve all your problems, but daily food is certainly a main problem of a homeless person, free food is at least a direct, tangible, guaranteed, improvement, even if it only carries you for a couple of hours. That is way more than near 100% certainty of nothing.

Really great points, especially comparing the 50% chance at the Russian Roulette with the 50-50 voting at the last vote, with the choice between sticking to the rules or trying to abandon the rules. However, there is one thing you are mistaken about: the boat captain. There is absolutely no evidence of him having a high rank, especially higher than the Front Man. Just because the English translation used "captain" for boss in the conversation between Soldier 11 and her superior, it does not mean the ship captain is the "captain" of the game.

Ever since someone pointed out on tiktok that half the Recruiter's face during the russian roulette was menacing while the other half was terrified, I can't see those scenes the same again. Gong Yoo is such an excellent actor

17:01 - 17:05 “he gives up his secure spot to protect the only pregnant woman in the games” For the frontman It most likely reminds him of his late wife who was also pregnant so he wants to protect the pregnant woman because he couldn’t do that with his wife

17:25 btw when the frontman said this he was referring to when gi hun said the same thing to the guards who gave him milk in season 1 which I think is kinda cool

this is amazingly well done. all i see is tiktoks about squid game which dont seem to get the whole point and the psychological masterpiece it is. you see, the problem i have with squid game is that it was very popularised amongst young kids and people dont see the psychological value it has. the show and the characters are excellently written and its so much more than thanos dancing round in circles while others being killed captured "omg that would be so me🤞"

I agree with everything except the captain part because in episode 2 of squid game season 2 Jun Ho, the police officer states that the guards refers to the front man as “captain” during his scene in the bathtub. I also think the management caste system (from the info given in season 1 and 2 ) goes like this: oh il nam (he’s dead tho…) -> frontman/captain -> officer (the guard dressed in black with pink zipper who is probably in charge of the organ harvest) -> pink guards (squares, triangle, and circle). Please comment if I missed something though.

16:59 he probably ran off into a room himself and survived as he is protected, we never got to see who he teamed up with and just reappeared alive and well. It also manipulated the others into believing he is selfless and trustworthy if your in his team.

At first, I looked at player 001 and thought "that looks like Front Man" but I then thought "maybe he looks like him, I don't see it". Guess I was right and it's no surprise regarding the ending.

When the boat captain is sitting down and having lunch with the other guy helping the brother find the island (I forgot what that guy’s name is), you can see that his cardigan has X’s, O’s, and square’s.

My theory for Squidgame is that the Front Man is actually a "Good guy" in the sense that he chooses people who are really in dire situation and gives them the opporunity to win big.. He is also fair and provides people options if they want to continue playing or not.. I believe that the owners of the game wants a bloodier spectacle but he is keeping it in "moderation" I think in the end, he is trying to recruit Gi hun as his replacement. ( watch midnight meat train and snow piercer ) for ref.. 😅

001 (Lee Byung-hun) is such a good actor it was criminal we didn’t get to see him much in season 1. That’s why I think he joined the game in season 2
@danielstudart20629 сағат бұрын
After thinking about what happened. I think the Front Man just wanted to see how far Gi-hun could take it and didn't care deeply about the result. He was in the games, and he suffered it all. I doubt he cares about the guards dying, and if Gi-hun was able to fully stop the main people from doing the game, he would likely be for it. But he probably knows how deep the rabbit hole goes in their power and is playing the odds to remain on top.

Gi-Hoon might be smarter than we perceive him to be. He knows not to trust a player with the number 001, shown when he picks someone that he knows to back him up into the control room during the siege, so he is befriending 001. He let himself known as a survivor from previous game. And in that very first voting process to stop the game, gauged the players thinking process. If the players trust him the games are dangerous, they will stop the games after the first one. Or if they are greedy, they will use his knowledge to win the games. When they pick to be greedy, he left out one vital information when he told the current players what possibly the next game is. He knows that the wall where they are sleeping in, shows the games that will be played.
