Yes! A fantastic singer, artist and human being! Also able to sing with so much tenderness. Humour also, as his performance of D. Giovanni w Bartoli. Always so kind to the public! Big and great man. Bravissimo Bryn!!! Thank you so much Gabba02 for this post!

Aside from the tempo being far too slow, this is one of the best renditions of the Te Deum I have heard from a vocal standpoint. I can't really make an adequate judgement until I see him actually in the role onstage, but the fact that he can command the role so well vocally and sustain the dramatic intent with such a draggy tempo says a lot. And anyway, you can't get a bad performance out of Bryn Terfel. He is so refreshing, clear, clean and direct with his singing. Bravissimo!

Outstanding. I'm only beginning to explore the divinity of Mr. Terfel's voice. Here, he's wicked and terrifying, and totally mesmerizing. He's very close to becoming my #2 very favourite baritone, ever. After Sherrill Milnes.

ANDREAS BERTOLINI, BLUDENZ.

I think Bryn Terfal's great and am looking forward to seeing him in Tosca in London this summer. A dream come true for me. I'm pretty new to KZbin and am enjoying all the entertainment on it, including reading the viewers' comments' . However, I think it's a shame the word "idiot" is used so much in the posted comments. Why so aggressive everyone? Lighten up and if you disagree, do so with wit and humour, not aggressive insults!

The tremendous power and the excitement of this performance trumps the notion of "pushing" or whatever by so much that minor criticisms of technique are meaningless. Listen to the last seconds of the performance as the audience explodes into applause and cheers. He is an awesome towering presence on stage. His lyrical technique is best in his Welsh recordings, his first language and love. His power is sweetly mixed in the old Welsh tunes.

I saw him in this role at the ROH last year, he was amazing, definitely the most evil and menacing Scarpia out there! Unfortunately I can't find a recording of him in this role, so I'll have to make do with my Carerras and Di Stefano versions. This aria as well as most of Tosca gives me goosebumps every time, I've managed to convert more people to opera with Tosca than any other!

@TTODD245 I don't agree with your assessment of the tempo-- this piece, like many others, is sometimes performed too fast, in my opinion, because the Scarpia can't sustain the drama or the line in a slower rendition. Clearly, Bryn here is not one of those singers, and the slower tempo really highlights his amazing dramatic and vocal capabilities. The only Scarpia that can compare to his was George Gagnidze in the 2009 Met production (which, unlike the critics, I really liked).

Yes, it was Tosca on 11th July. Nelly was Tosca and was competent and convincing but didn't "nail" Vissi d'arte in my opinion. There was polite applause only.Giordino as Cavaradossi was superb.I was a little surprised at the lack of applause after his magnificent "E lucevan le stelle" Maybe that's just the London way. That was my first visit to the ROH so I don't know. Are ROH audiences reluctant to applaud or just difficult to impress?!

Ha ha oichemaith. Funny you should talk about Brynn breaking Nelly. On the performance night, | think he overdid his "pounce" and both of his legs were off the floor, literally pinning poor Nelly to the table. She was just about able to wheeze out her "this is Tosca's kiss" line. I hope they had laugh about it later....
