High handicap golfers have such an intense fixation on the pin on literally every shot. Dana here is trying to teach what separates hackers from players: 1. Know what the hole layout is, where the trouble is, where the pin is, what the wind is doing, and use that info to plan your shot. 2. Stop fixating on the pin on every single shot when you aren't in a position (or have the skill) to hit it anywhere near there. Are you in a fairway bunker with trees between you and the hole? Is there a tiny gap you think you can hit it through and land it 3 feet from the hole? Are you Tiger? Sometimes you have to take your medicine. And honestly your score will thank you more times than not. 3. Putting up a good score isn't hitting every shot perfectly, it's hitting good misses that you planned and strategized for. You pay for the whole course when you play. Use it!

Dana is the BEST coach, instructor, golf guru on your channel. ☝🏻 So easy to understand, explains WHY he has you do something, not married to one “system” … He’s awesome. 👊🏻 Stay with him … give us more 👍🏻 “Don’t overthink it” Best advice ever. I said that to one of the guys I played with this morning. 6” past the hole (the target) 🎯 GREAT advice 👊🏻 Don’t let gravity (slope) control your putt … especially near the cup. But the prevailing advice is 18” past the hole (most can make a 1 1/2 foot putt) 6” is quite a challenge. It would be great if he would point where your REAL target should be when putting, wouldn’t it? 😉 Remember what Yogi Berra said, “97% of all putts left SHORT don’t go in” 😂 Let’s GO! o.s. I saw “speed golfers” at Strawberry Creek in Kenosha. They are absolutely incredible … penalized for time as well as strokes. Awesome golfers that really focus on strategy and just … get it in the hole

Quick tip for those that are unsure of how they aim on course: take your stance that “feels” good, then place the club behind your heels (not the toes because some flare feet). Step back and see where you are actually aiming. I teach kids and when they do this they are amazed at how far off they aim.

Bro, love the videos. You gotta get out of those stealth irons. When I started playing 18 months ago I got the stealth and I could never hold a green because they are low launch and low spin (super game improvement) Picking up player irons was a game changer! Keep the great content coming.

Great info. Look at Dana at 4:26 using the club to check his direction. He snuck that in. Its Simple and quick. The tricky part is not to use or turn your head too far towards target but use your feet to turn/move/correct yourself by mere millimeters or inches that can send shot yards off or on target.

This is great video and information. You're getting great info but always ask he a term or phrased is used you don't fully understand. Now you can check your grip pre-AND-post shot to remember how many knuckles. Be careful with how the Greens Keeper place the tee box cones. They aren't necessarily aimed to the best direction. Always recheck your direction visually. Looking good! Oh, and check your divots to see which way you swung/path and determine if that fits the ball flight you were looking for. Reading greens: Find the lowest spot in relation to the flag and that's half the knowledge, then aim accordingly to roll up, down, or side ways on slope to flag.

@RodneyCervik 3 minutes ago I learned to play the same way: 6 weeks of lessons, never stepped on a course. When I did, my tee shots were better than most people, but there were a huge variety of shots I'd never even tried: sand, low punch, pitch, chip, hook, fade, bad lie. You're nervous here for the same reason. You need to play to learn.

I'd been doing the same thing as you, lining up well right of my target and hitting a good shot wondering why I was always right. Then when I'd correct for it I'd hook the ball not realizing that I was hitting the ball fine the first time just lined up wrong.

Dana's best advice:"Did I pull the right club? Did I follow my routine? Did I make a good swing?" Accept the outcome, make a note of your error, then move on. You can't control everything. Don't worry about it.

That’s what’s frustrating for me … Hitting it LONG 🙄 I play a pitch & putt (par 3) course most every day, and now I’m having trouble hitting my wedge “the number” and routinely hit it LONG Short game is “scoring” game! ☝🏻 Hit more greens in regulation and “Scratch to Scratch” is in reach Keep up the good work 👍🏻 “If this was a million dollars, I would putt this” … great advice ☝🏻 “Yeah, that was nice” 🤣

A playing lesson is a good idea as course management is a learned skill, and every course, though there are similarities is different. Like parkland as opposed to links golf. Also, perfect flat lies in lessons, not so on the course, which is where you are having problems, as golf is close to infinitely variable considering, conditions, your own level, down to what you had for breakfast.

A coach who watches your videos, aka reaserach outside the coaching session. Thats why he's good and why golf lessons cost money. I'd imagine most coaches dont just spend 1 hour coaching you. They spend 3 or 4 researching what to coach you, then spend an hour coaching you.

you couldve putt that off the green with the sprinklers in the way. Crazy your coach didnt tell you the rule. But if there are sprinkler heads within 2 clubs of a green, and you are within 2 clubs of the heads and they are in your line...you get relief. No closer to the hole so taht they are out of your line. The ball must lie through the green (not in a bunker of water hazard); and The immovable obstruction (sprinkler head) must be on or within two club-lengths of the putting green; and The immovable obstruction must be within two club-lengths of the ball; and The immovable obstruction must intervene on the line of play between the ball and the hole. RULE 24-2 !!! :D :D :D

It's not crazy his coach didn't tell him that because you're incorrect. Relief for immovable obstructions near the putting green is not a rule. It is a model local rule (F-5), which the committee may or may not implement. Rule 24-2 has nothing to do with relief.

You've had some of the best coaches in the game but you still aim a mile right, just like you did when you first started. Either you don't have anything between your ears, or you just don't listen? Why not line up starting with your feet together, just like some of the top pros do?

ABSOLUTELY! Can’t get any spin on a 30 yard pitch, so you’re relying on luck to get it to stop. I would much rather have a 60-90 yard shot where I can get the clubface on the ball, get it up in the air with some spin and get it to stop. 🛑 What Dana said, “Now you have a full shot” ☝🏻

@@MPerski Proximity to the hole data from Tour players to high handicap all reveal the same thing: the closer you are to the hole, the closer you will be on average to the pin. In fact, the difference is dramatic from 60-80 to 20-30, almost 50%. Furthermore, the idea that a guy who has the clubhead speed of a pro is going to have an issue spinning a wedge on greens that are probably stimping 10, is just not accurate. The reason that people think that "laying up" to a yardage works (besides the golf industry misinforming them pre-Marc Broadie) is because when they hit a 100 yd wedge to 30' they think it's a good shot (and they are right), Then they hit a 50 yard wedge to 25' they think it's terrible, when obviously 25 is closer than 30. Try it!

This was good content but I don’t consider this course management….. more like how to play out of bad situations, a good playing lesson. His coach didn’t have to tell Jerome where to lay up every time, or where the hazards/ bunkers are located, a good course management lesson should be teaching a golfer on a course that he doesn’t know or played yet, read the score card; local rules, course layout, color of stakes used for hazards, OB, water, and sensitive areas. Reading wind, choosing the right club based on yardage and course design, I could go on and on. He needed to ask Jerome, “what club would you hit of the tee based on what you see, and why?”or “how would you play this hole, and why?” Without knowing where the trouble spots are located, have him play two ball, first his choice then the coach’s choice, and still with no info on the trouble spots/ hazards.
