This is my 1970 BSA Bantam B175. It's an English reg. (It's been in N Ireland for a number of years) Would anyone in England know where this reg.originates? I've been told that it is probably an ex.GPO bike because of the little First Aid Box on the chainguard. Thanks for viewing.

I had a BSA Bantam D14/4 in 1970 it was about a year old when I bought it for £119.00 HFE 874G. This has brought back great memories for me. Always remember the noise and the smell of two stroke. Thankyou

Hi a couple of things that may interest you. The post office BSA bantams had a single seat, they did not want there messenger boys killing themselves so they restricted the machines, removing the Amal carb and fitted a Bing carb that had a flat slide plate inside. When the uk law changed (16 year olds only allowed to ride moped with pedals) The post office used Mopeds. We were lucky to have the Raleigh RM5 they had variable gearing by the way of having the engine move backwards with an expanding gearbox. For any of us. These were brilliant. We could get a good 50mph downhill which was a lot faster than the restricted Bantam.

Numberplates work as follows, the first letter is random, the next 2 letters are area, the 3 numbers are random and the last letter is year, so yours being 'SG' means it was first registered in or very close by Edinburgh

Nice little bike arnt they Tommy...got mine around 6 months ago..its a B175 like yours. My 1st ever motor cycle...had to re-build the engine on mines...the internal seals had gone...not been used for over 30 years. I like the black that yours is in...may repaint mine one day.
