Love your content, just a bit of help with the tyres, always finish at the valve when putting tyre back on as the valve stops the bead from going down into the well of the rim, o & that’s what the dip is called. Hope this helps & enjoy your method of delivery also showing mistakes, we all make them.

I had to fix a puncture on my bicycle on Wednesday as I rode from wolverhampton to Walsall, so imagine my joy when I got the opportunity to repeat the process on getting another puncture on the way home from Walsall to Wolverhampton! Very funny start to the video by the way.

Another masterclass MrT. Brought back memories of my Grandfather showing me how to do this when my first proper bike arrived. The levers had or had been given indents to latch over the spokes; no risk of them flicking up until I tried it! Thank you for posting.

The struggle was real Mr. Tweed, lots of heavy breathing. I'm surprised you didn't save the mustache droppings for a snack at tea. 😂. When I changed the tires on my old 59 Gmc pickup I had to cut the tires off with an angle grinder and cutting disc.
@TweedsGarage Жыл бұрын
I've had a few tough ones ( especially the Riley's ) but have never had to resort to the angle grinder!!......i should imagine the fear of the disc grabbing is strong 😬

Those hard old rubber tyres can be a real problem to remove, I think you have the answer in lashings of lube, I have no problem with the large tyres, but have you tried the small tubeless lawn mower tyres? They are really hard to get off. Good luck! Chris B.

The bead soap is a revelation, after years of wrestling tyre on using talc i highly recommended getting a tub of it..........just keep it away from the dog
@453421abcdefg12345 Жыл бұрын
@@TweedsGarage Yes that would cause a problem! I normally use washing up liquid, but of course that contains salt, not a good thing for the rims, I find the biggest problem now is getting a decent inner tube, most of them are perished from new, chinese I suspect, and as less vehicles use inner tubes we will get this problem even more in future, you would think there would be a standard to adhere to. will you paint creep marks on yours? Ever since I got my 1st car aged 17.....took my own tyres off the wheels. I learnt it off my brother in the early 60. Even on my wifes more modern Nissan with alloys....I change the tyres and repair flats. Made my own bead breaker....breaking beads is the tricky bit for the DIY GUY....but my DIY breaker its a sinch. Why do I do it....well not bought a new tyre for many years.....I would not buy part worns from a tyre shop.....prob german cast offs. No I get mine from my local car breaker....I choose my own....most cars in there are MOT fails.....loads have nearly new tyres......of course if you dont know how to examine a tyre buy new. Saying that new tyres are not very good these day.....the walls get cracking in them in no time. Tyres come off my Bantan easy.....not so sure about the tyres on my 2020 Triumph tubbed tyres....the tyre wall are so stiff. Re bearing I go out of my way to find branded European or Jap Bearing.....si much Chinese tat about. I have a great bearing supplier nearby.....always get exactly what I want....and not at silly prices.
@TweedsGarage Жыл бұрын
there is a real problem with modern tyres, it used to be shreaded lorry remould treads that you would see scattered along the central reservations of the motorway network, but now although you still get these, the vast majority of debris now is complete low profile tyre tread bands that have detached from the sidewalls of the tyre, with normally a forlorn three tyred BMW, Audi, Porsche sitting on the hard shoulder further up the motorway.......one suspects they ( or lease company ) have cheaped out and fitted the economy option instead of named brands, you have to wonder why there isn't stringent testing of import tyres. Well done for making your own bead breaker.
@retromechanicalengineer Жыл бұрын
Very good, my D7 tyres were original and nasty to remove. I don't film myself doing tyres much as it turns me into.....'him'. Keep your old brake shoes as they are genuine BSA parts. Villiers Services will reline them for you in a very favourable compound and match to your drum diameter. Those Girling ones are ok, but a bit hard. Best wishes, Dean.
@TweedsGarage Жыл бұрын
it is amazing Dean, I managed to fit tyres to back and front wheels without swearing once..........good tip to know about Villiers but I´ll need the hard compound when we race over to the tea rooms.

Nice video, just done all that on my little Honda. I’ve got very similar tyre levers with Halford’s name on them - yonks old, bet they don’t sell those any more! Did I spot some (real) Britool tools there? Still got some of mine from the 1960s apprenticeship days, but Halfords tools seem good now too. Thanks for the videos.. Les

Is the Bantam kept behind the shed so Mrs Tweed doesn't find out? I was going to get new tyres for the Velo but I think I better wait to see if I can actually get a running engine first. Getting it all apart is proving tricky.

It was outside for a while when the wheels were off as i really don't have the room, but its safely tucked away in front of the Riley out of the weather. I have been following your struggles with the LE Simon, i have full faith in you getting it running again ( i am impressed with the engineering design of it )
