End of Selena's Dream

Selena's boutique has finally closed. 1-27-94-5-2-09
The boutique was closed because of the divorce Chris Perez was going through with his wife, Vanessa, she would get half of everything and that included the boutique, she would get all the profits from the store, and God only knows what else she would've done with it, so the family closed the store, and the economy didn't help either. It should've been made into a museum if you ask me.

I often go to the old boutique here in San Antonio (which is now cd exchange on Broadway) the window by the entrance door still has the Selena etc sticker on the window. I never leave without rubbing it. I miss you!!

I can't help but to think at times that her family must sometimes feel like it was all too good to be true....because everything was just blossoming so beautifully man. Just like the way we shockingly lost our young beautiful little songbird Aaliyah's promising young life & future completely out of nowhere too....oh that shit hurt so bad. I don't believe anyone will ever really get over loosing either one of these beautiful young women because it simply wasn't fair either cases, but Selena's loss will always be an ultimate heartache because someone actually did this on purpose for NOTHING by the hands of someone she probably did grow to love & thought was a friend to her. It's unforgettable and damn near unforgivable even when you know God law that no matter how extreme the act is, since Jesus gave His life up for the forgiveness of the sins of man saving us from eternity with Satan you must repent & forgive everyone too, which is SO much harder to do then people really realize.

good for you to defending Chris btw I am also tired of seeing people bash Chris. I have a friend who got to meet Selena's family and he knows her sister. He had the opportunity to organize the event when Selena's wax figure for Madame Tussauds was revealed, Chris couldn't look at the figure and he said Chris was constantly crying. So I agree with you to blocking those who bash Chris. He is as much of a victim of what happened to Selena like the rest of her family. He was her family.

I was shocked and saddened to hear Abraham bashing Chris in a recent interview he gave! Chris has had to be incredibly brave, too. People have said some real crap about him, when he's constantly having to go up against Abraham and the Q family. I can fully understand that he crashed and burned on substance abuse after Selena died..What man who wanted to throw himself in the grave with his wife wouldn't? But Abraham had him sign his rights as her husband over to him - before Selena was even cold! Right when he was out of his head with grief. I know Abraham had to be grieving too - but even so, he was already thinking about how to make money from Selena's death (the completed movie came out just over 1 year after she'd died!), and he'd already had the papers drawn up that would cut Chris out of all of it - including financially - within 3 months of her tragic murder! And the Q's have been making money off her death EVER SINCE. Abraham's a real piece of work. I saw him on a video interview just before the Netflix series started filming and HE ACTUALLY SAID: "Chris was nothing but an employee, just employed as a guitarist for Selena Y Los Dinos, and what has he done since Selena died? ZERO. That's what. AB wrote all the music for the band, and ALL Chris did was play was AB told him to play". (AS IF! AB is just a bass guitarist! If he could tell Chris what to play, he could play it himself!) WELL, Abraham .. In case you haven't noticed, Chris was MARRIED to Selena - FOR THREE Years after dating her seriously for 3 years before that .. He's your son-in-law whether YOU like it or not! And as such, he was entitled to tell his side of the story, and TBH, that's what fans REALLY want to hear! But Abraham has had Chris silenced by the courts. It was Chris' idea to make a Netflix series about his and Selena's lives together from his book, "To Selena, With Love", but Abraham had him legally gagged and then stole the whole concept - and Chris will apparently be all but cut out of that too, with his character apparently appearing in only two episodes. Financially cut out as well. As for keeping Selena's legacy alive, even though Chris remarried (to Vanessa Villenueva) a few years after her death and they had 2 kids before quickly divorcing, Chris has been DEVOTED to keeping Selena's legacy alive - he's always been at every festival and event to remember Selena, playing his heart out on stage, signing t-shirts & autographs, and meeting with Selena's fans, posing for pictures with them, doing interviews - knowing that the tough questions about Selena will always come up - etc etc etc. And furthermore, because he's always been so talented in his own right (& that's why he got the job as lead guitarist in the first place!), he's carried on with a very successful music career of his own - He's even won a Grammy, for God's sake! Whereas all of the Q's have been making their living off Selena's name - and her death. No Grammy for AB, Abraham! So how dare he make such a nasty public comments about Chris! And recently, word is that the Quintanilla's have been re-recording some of the Los Dinos songs that Chris did, but using a different guitarist - AND they are excluding the songs that he helped write - just so they don't have to pay Chris royalties anymore! I mean, how low can they go? Just nasty, Mr Q! Whatever your beef with Chris is, he still has rights. You think you owned Selena because she was your offspring? As a so-called Christian I would think that you would know what the Bible says about a man cleaving to his wife. And that what God has joined in marriage, let no man put asunder. (Matthew 19:6) So it's really great to see Chris at this point in his life, 25 years later and releasing some really great music and being so up-beat about life.Even when the questions about Selena start, he's able to smile and remember how much fun she was, and all of their great moments together with such a genuine sense of joy! He's always going to be in love with her, but I sincerely hope that one day he can learn to love again. If not the same, then almost as much. Best wishes, Chris.

Delightful, humble, down to earth and so dope I know every number one fan says what I am about to say but I feel as though she is my best friend and I am so sad that she is not here I am so proud of her for being who she was which inspired me To be who I am today. So I’m a fairly new Selena fan I’ve been binge watching all her videos lately. For some reason i thought she was much older when she passed. She was already a well polished young lady. People might get butthurt when i say this but she would’ve been up there with Michael Jackson, The Beatles and Madonna and so many other greats. The simple fact that she had that Tejano flare would of set her music apart from everyone else. Not to mention her personality, talent and fashion sense. We will never actually know for sure where her career would’ve went or where music would today if she hadn’t passed. He was only married to Vanessa for a few years before they separated. It just took years for them to finalise the divorce. And it was far from a happy marriage...Chris was still hell-bent on self-destruction .. He was distraught after losing Selena.. You don't know what he went through. No one does. He tried drowning himself in drug and alcohol abuse - and a new relationship. None of it worked for him - including his marriage. But years later he found himself - & unconditional love in his children...and I wouldn't want anyone to wish to deprive him of that! Selena is in a better place. Chris had every right to move on and try to live & love again!

I said the same thing but I think the reason it closed down was because of Chris's ex wife she wanted money from chris from the boutique when they were divorcing and chris wouldnt let her get her hands on anything so he had no choice but to close it. He did the majority of the handyman work especially with the boutique here in Corpus, the one here in Corpus was his and Selena's baby, (so to speak) so I'm sure it "killed him" having to close it but they had no other choice, him nor the Q's weren't going to let Vanessa get her hands on anything of Selena's stuff. She had enough with child support and alimony.

*Venessa* is a shifty one & turning that last remaining boutique into a museum not only would've had the exact same consequences regarding legal ownership & profits to be gained (at least presumably by her) but would defeat its own purpose as far as remaining a *living* breathing part of the legacy of the person of Selena not necessarily the now-global icon that she tragically became posthumously... Pity if that was the only real reason that her family ended up shutting it down. Especially considering how this reflected her artistic vision that had managed to survive her regardless of how & when she left the world. Perhaps her family opening at least one new revamped boutique & salon would continue legacy in that arena alive while serving as some kind of legal loophole for remaining open *IF* Chris is not involved in that potential business project... Worth a shot as her posthumous Mac Cosmetics makeup line could potentially be resold there as well. Genuinely surprised that that makeup line wasn't as successful as had originally been expected...

Oh ok I was wondering why the boutique closed. I have nothing really negative to say about Chris. I do wonder why he didn't go back with Selena the morning she was killed being that he was sleep he heard her screaming when her father in law scared her. He went with her the night before it would only make sense to get up with her to go again. With all the evidence shown to Selena that Yolanda was stealing why still meet with her and wasn't the police wasn't involved after evidence was presented. They could have retrieved the missing documents that she needed. It's just questions that will forever bother me.

After 26 years it really does seem Selena’s murder destroyed Chris’s life. Even his future life. He is still so in love with her. I can understand all of this too. Yolanda destroyed him when she killed Selena. Yolanda should get time for this too. That’s just how I see it.

I always found that story hard to believe. That Vanessa didn't know how Selena was although she lived in San Antonio and Sel was so big in S.A.Yes the economy didn't help at all. Her dream died with her. Once all her original designs were made there was nothing else from Selena. It's been a gift shop for years. But the Q's also closed it down because of the divorce, she'd likely to get the boutique's profits to support herself in addition to child support and alimony.

Because of the divorce of Chris and his wife. She would get half of everything and that included some of Selena's estate which included the boutique. I hope Chris never parted with anything of his wife. I doubt he did. Selena was very special to him so I can't see Vanessa getting any of Selena's estate. Vanessa would've made profit from the boutiques, when she didn't even know who Selena was until she died and didn't work hard (like Chris) in building the boutique (he did a lot of handiwork).
