I cannot tell you how happy I am that it was addressed that people should hold Akutugawa and/or Dazai to the same standard as the other. As much as their actions were BOTH caused by the people above them, they both did horrible things. I hate when people justify one and not the other. You can give REASONING for both, but you cannot excuse it. Thank you so much for bringing that up(especially through the characters and to Chuuya? Literally amazing.)

Thank goodness someone acknowledged both Dazai AND Akutagawa are victims of abuse but also abusers. I think it’s often over looked how Akutagawa abused her and Dazai was abused THEN goes on to abuse Akutagawa.

I'm so glad that you addressed Dazai like that, along with addressed the behaviour of Akutagawa , how he treated Higuchi and Kyouka. Dazai is aware of how he sees himself, and really doesn't care for help. The way you made them react is legit canon to me, instead of the way most creators make Dazai react, you actually made him react as of how he would canonly.

@@sukida2010well, it’s not confirmed that dazai was a victim but he was in an abusive environment although the light novels aren’t confirmed to be canon so nothing can be said about them however, that doesn’t change anything at all, akutagawa should still be held accountable just as much as dazai even if dazai isn’t confirmed to be abused he ( akutagawa) still abused someone which is kyouka.

Unpopular opinion. Dazai and Akutagawa shouldnt be held to the same standards. That's not to say that neither should be held accountable. But saying Akutagawa is as bad as Dazai really isnt true. Theyre both awful, but give credit where credit is due. Akutagawa let Kyouka go. He even said he was happy for her. But Dazai hasn't changed. He's still an abuser, just not to the people at the Agency. Reminder: Abusers don't abuse everyone they're around. They have friends and people they care about. Dazai is abusing Akutagawa and its frustrating that people are acting like he isn't. Calling Akutagawa to do dangerous missions because he knows Akutagawa won't say no? Abusive. Don't you remember that Akutagawa literally died under the orders of Dazai. Dazai is a genius compared to normal standards. There's no way he didn't know it would happen. Also, not to compare abuse, but Dazai eas absolutely more violent than Akutagawa was to Kyouka or Higuchi. Akutagawa is shown pulling Kyouka by her hair and choking her among other things. Higuchi got thrown around. But Dazai literally shot at him and beat him so hard he was bleeding internally. They blood came out of his mouth. That much blood couldnt have come from his mouth bleeding. That either came from his stomach (which Dazai literally hit him in) or his lungs. Also again, Dazai is literally a genius. To say that he didn't know about Akutagawa's illness is idiotic. He coughs all the time. I could tell he was sick just by looking at him. Also, look at his waist. I know the fandom jokes about being snatched or whatever, but thats genuinely not okay. If you want to say it's because he was poor, then okay, why doesn't Gin look like that? Atsushi and Dazai have both went through violent traumas as bad as his, but even they don't look like that. I have serious doubts that Akutagawa's appearence isn't severe stunted growth because if Dazai's treatment. Also, what Dazai did to Akutagawa isn't "How training is in the Mafia". Higuchi, Gin, Chuuya, Tachihara, Motojiro, and Hirostu (as far as we know) have never been trained that way, or trained others that way. Dazai was a high ranking member of the mafia. There's no way he didn't know how Chuuya, Hirotsu, and Gin were treating others and being treated in the Mafia. Also Chuuya on multiple occasions told Dazai to treat Akutagawa better. Even if you want to give the benefit of the doubt, there's no possibility that Dazai didn't know what he was doing is wrong. There absolutely is a possibility that Akutagawa didn't know ehat he was doing was abuse or wrong. Given his circumstances before the Mafia, he never had any parental figure to help him. Dazai was one of the first people in his life to hold any kind of guidance figure. Dazai molded and formed his mindset. Akutagawa holds him up on a pedestal: Whatever Dazai says, goes. He's constantly chasing after Dazai's approval. He's desperate for it. I doubt he thinks Dazai has wronged him in any way. We saw him kill the mob members who killed his friends, and be violent towards Atsushi for having Dazai's approval. (Both of which could be perceived as wrongs to him.) We clearly know that he had a short temper, and is very vindictive. So he obviously doesn't think that what Dazai has done is abuse. In that case, he also doesn't view what he did to Kyouka or Higuchi as abuse. He doesn't think he's done anything wrong. Because acknowledging what he did as abuse, means acknowledging what he did was bad, which also mean acknowledging what Dazai did was bad, and that doesn't fit in his image of Dazai. So it doesn't happen. There's a difference between abusing someone knowing it's wrong, and abusing someone when you don't know you're abusing them. Neither are okay, but the pathway of healing and accountability is wildly different. They should be treated like the individual cases they are, because the circumstances are different. TLDR: Both Akutagawa and Dazai should be held accountable for their actions. But stop saying they should be held to the SAME standards, because the circumstances of their abuse are different.
