Unfortunately, Jethro Tull was never the same after Barriemore, John Evan, and David Palmer were fired. I did like Broadsword and Crest of the Knave, but never as much as the classic band.

It wasn't just one guy. Barrie got along great with Jeffrey Hammond and I thought the band of John Evan, Jeffrey, Martin Barre and Barlow was stellar. But when John Glascock came in, that core of Tull became a Phenom. There was no tighter or finer foursome in music from '75 to '78. Plus lets not forget David (now Dee) Palmer was involved in the orchestrations from way back, I think from Aqualung, so the music was far superior than what came after these folks departed.

Martin is a very modest, and humble man, and one incredible guitar player. I don't supposed there's any point raking over old ground, but I have my own views of who came out of the 'parting of the ways' the better person.

I don't think there is any need to be judgemental or competitive. There's no law that says anyone has to play with anyone else if they don't want to. One thing is that the guitar parts in subsequent Tull releases have been great, as good as anything from before, but very different music.

I watched "Jethro Tull" last month in Birmingham. Yet another guitarist who was very good but it isn't Tull anymore, despite what Ian might say or think. Musically they are very good, as always and I will go whenever they play locally as it's a good show but it just isn't the same without Martin!

What Ian says of thinks is exactly what Tull is, and I see little difference in the excellence of the studio music, and the live music problem is with Ian's voice, not any specific guitarist or musician. You screwball critics sound like a kookie Beatles fan saying the band was never the same since Pete Best left it. Get a grip.

I once heard Ian say that if, for some reason, Martin were not playing in Jethro Tull, Ian would not want to perform under the name "Jethro Tull." Ian explained: Martin's contributions to Tull were such that without Martin it would not seem to Ian to be Jethro Tull any longer. But something changed and we now see Ian and other minstrels performing as Jethro Tull without Martin Lancelot Barre. Ian is the greatest entertainer I've ever seen, and I've in-person seen Tull or Ian perform about 18 times. Ian is not the amazing whirling dervish he was for decades, and that is not essential to the music (though it was great), but the decay of his voice has been hugely significant.

Someone needs to slap some sense into Ian. Im sure the members of his new band are great, but thers is nothing like vintage. If they are still competent in their skills, Ian,Martin,Barrie or Doane,John Evan and Jeffrey should be putting the band together and give it a proper sendoff. Lets go Ian

It's the music that has changed, and if you don't like it, don't listen, and don't insult it. Ian is the powerhouse behind the music, and one can see that by looking at the last albums that are very different and have popular support, but sound very different from anything before. The classic lineup put out some albums I don't care much for, like Warchild and Too Old To Rock and Roll. Ian is Jethro Tull.

If he has, i haven’t heard it….just simply say what the basic issue(s) were, between him and Ian. I don’t think Ian has said what the problem was. Yes, respect people’s privacy…but i mean how bad could it have been?..but had to bad enough because Martin says the friendship totally dissolved.

Ian made a couple of mistakes- first and foremost he sacked the best lineup Tull ever had- Barrie Barlow, John Evans, and David Palmer. It is pretty much a foregone conclusion that Tull’s best work was from Aqualung to Stormwatch ( with a few forgettable albums here and there) Second mistake letting go of Martin in 2012 and lying that he encouraged him to go out on his own. Martin says he was just outed from the band like others before-Andrew Giddings, Diane Perry. It paints Ian as a kind of ruthless task master. BTW I like his latest album Rock Flute , but with yet another group of musicians.

Ian seems to do what he thinks he needs to to maintain the economic and artistic success of JT/IA bands. The music and lyrics and ideas are fantastic. Someone so talented and productive - no other member or former member of Tull has ever gotten a song or album as successful as Ian and Tull. You can see there was really a problem with Martin. He was pathologically shy, and even when he got his own band, at first he would stand off to the side of the stage and play his guitar brilliantly, but there was nothing to back it up, and few good ideas. I's probably been a very good thing for Martin to have to get out there on his own and realize how much Ian had to deal with all these years, writing, composing, managing, booking, all the work he did for Tull - yet every Tull video that shows up on KZbin has some BS yammering about how Ian is such a mean guy. There is nothing stopping Martin from doing whatever he wants, there never has been. Martin's band is like a teen-age garage band of old men, and the vocalist is awful, and all he does is to try to imitate Ian.

You’re stretching that - Tull’s music from 1969 to 2011 was great because they had their own style and sound which was a blend of the instrumentals of the flute and electric guitar plus bass,keyboards, drums. And for 43 years Tull was essentially Ian and Martin and the sound of the music was Martin’s guitar and Ian’s guitar,flute, vocals accompanied by the other musicians in the band throughout. While some of us Tull fans don’t consider Ian’s present band as Jethro Tull ( because Martin is not a member) we have to realize that for the last 25 years Ian has had another group of musicians who have played on his solo albums and and live performances as Ian Anderson plays Jethro Tull and they have been officially are a part of Jethro Tull. I have seen them about 7times and always a great show. They are still producing and performing as Jethro Tull and last October’s show was a great show from a long diehard fan. I am so pleased that Martin is doing what he does and I saw his show in 2016 in a small venue (20 feet from the stage) and it was great! I hope to see him again. Things change and in this case it’s allowed both Ian and Martin to be happy in their musical pursuits

Martin is a weak person. In his mind and his music he is a genius, incredibly skilled, but he is so introverted and shy it's been a real tough road forced on him by Ian. Who knows, maybe he deserved it or has benefited from it, but there is not law that rock groups have to maintain a teenage teen idol fantasy. Ian seems like an obsessive loner - I'm just glad he continues to write and play music at all - it's fantastic.

Its sometimes hard to understand the motivations of the very creative band leaders. Frank Zappa abruptly dumped the players in the Mothers of Invention when he decided it was time to move in a different musical direction. Same could be said of David Bowie.

Its so unfortunate that Ian killed a great band with the album "A", and by giving the band a one year notice after Stormwatch (gotta rack in them bucks with a tour first! Right?) Ian tried to save things with Broadsword but was not totally successful. I attended that concert, and it was good, but I didn't know about the band changes at the time. Crest of a Knave was the only album I bought after Stormwatch. Barre had a few good moments after Stormwatch but the band direction seemed to be intent on going 80's radio pop, much like Plant did after Pictures at Eleven. Many other bands did the same, none of those albums being classics. Unfortunate indeed.

@justgivemethetruth
@justgivemethetruth Ай бұрын
@@DavidGainesVeganComposer "Constant firing of people?"? That's silly. And it is dishonest of you to pretend you know what Barre is talking about. I don't think the music has suffered, and probably very likely is the fact that Martin's salary was too much to carry with the way the live shows are going these days. I look at the last 2 new albums and the guitar work has not suffered ... the sound of the music is what determines the brand, and to me I think Ian is still great, and the rest of the band is as good as they ever were. It's mostly an emotional response to Martin being gone that is the problem with fans. The reality is that, sad to say, and I love Martin since I started paying attention to the band members - but Martin and his band have had many years to come up with some good songs, and they do not have one that can hold up next to the least popular Tull song. I don't know if it was right, or fair that Martin is gone, I just know it's Ian's call. Ian evolved the whole thing over many decades of very hard work and has the right to run things the way he wants. If he keeps at it. maybe Ian can find a way to use AI to recreate his great voice of the past.

Right! The brand doesn’t exist anymore. Hate to use this fast food analogy, but if Burger King stopped making flame broiled burgers and did what McDonald’s is doing, the BK brand is gone. The “brand “of JT was over when Ian made a monstrous mistake in cutting ties with Martin.

Martin has no right to say that without him it isn't Jethro Tull. Jethro Tull was a band BEFORE he joined, does he not consider THAT Jethro Tull? Yet, he was a HUGE part of Tull when he was there, but to say that it's not Jethro Tull just because he isn't in the band is kind of arrogant on his part.
