Let us learn about an important orthognathic surgery for mandible - the BSSO. It is done in the correction of both prognathism and retrognathism (protruded mandible and retruded mandible) .
Orthognathic surgery comes into play when orthodontic treatment alone is not sufficient to treat skeletal malocclusion.
Here we will see about the basic technique of BSSO explained in a simple way along with its advantages, disadvantages, and complications .

I had this done when I was 16 back in 1975 for a hereditary long chin plus an under bite. I still have no feeling in my left chin and gums. Two teeth won't numb properly for dental procedures which made a root canal a couple decades later a really bad experience. BUT all that is not a bad trade-off to be able to chew food properly for the past 45 years.
