Hi I’ve got one and I think they’re great! I have experimented with a Golden Bullet microphone by K&K with a preamp to bring out the acoustic properties of the BSX. Please look for the video of David Bromberg on the BSX Allegro, amazing sound, & player! I think that’s the whole beef about the EUB’s, we don’t want them to sound like a fretless electric bass. 🙏

A truss rod does not fix the action, it changes the relief in the neck, guessing yours adjusts the neck ANGLE allowing it to tip back more to reduce action. Cool practice tool but it sounds like a guitar style acoustic bass with a piezo pickup. Great if that’s your jam but not gonna work for me. Also, you’ve got a 5 string, demo the low B (or high C)!

One of those moments where I watched the words leave my mouth and couldn't take them back!😆😆 You are 100% correct that the adjustment in the back of the bass adjusts the neck angle relative to the bridge to adjust the string height. Thanks so much for the feedback!

Would this be good for a college dorm?

I would highly recommend this instrument if you are conscious about noise in a dorm. The unplugged sound is loud enough for you to hear yourself, but not so loud that you'll bother neighbors. Plus you can plug into an amp or preamp pedal and plug headphones in for quiet practice.

Well -- yes and no. As soon as you put a pickup on your acoustic upright, it no longer sounds its original acoustic self. The BSX Allegro system sounds superior to any pickups I've put on my acoustic upright. You can adjust individual string sensitivity for perfect balance. And overall, the BSX sounds great with arco (bow). The 3-band Bartolini preamp hits all the sweet EQ spots. Live sound engineers love it when I show up with my BSX -- especially at festivals when changeovers are short -- they'd rather not be fiddling with an acoustic upright.

I can think of so many reasons not to buy one. At least without a tripod type support system it’s hopeless in the higher positions. As far as sound is concerned it’s nothing like a decent upright played by a decent player. Don’t fall for the sales pitch nonsense.

I love my BSX Allegro, and take it to a ton of my gig work over the last nearly 10 years now... including jazz gigs, theater pits, and session work. You don't need a "stand" to play it because it has a hip brace. I get in and out of thumb position with no problems on this instrument. Also, FYI, Brian Bromberg recently bought a BSX Allegro and is loving it. This video was not a "sales pitch" perse -- but rather more of a product review.
