Often a taboo topic, death is part of our lives and a staple of cinematic storytelling. From letting go of a loved one in coming-of-age dramas to the nerve-wracking dangers of murder in horror movies, many stories send their characters and audience on that final journey into the darkness - or, rather, into the life and light that comes afterwards. Well known art house directors Lucile Haždihalilović (De Natura; Evolution) and Kamila Andini (The Seen and Unseen; The Mirror Never Lies) take a moment from their festival screenings to exemplify poetic approaches to genre and culture and discuss how a ghostly media like cinema can express the secrets of departure and transition in most lively ways.
